Best Free Black Dating Sites in 2026 (Really Free)

The best free Black online dating sites and apps are BLK, where you can match and chat with Black singles without paying, and Hinge, which lets every free user filter by ethnicity. BlackGentry suits professionals who want something serious, and Mingle2 is the one site where messaging stays free with no match needed. Most of the rest, including BlackPeopleMeet and BlackCupid, are free to join but make you pay before a real conversation can start.

Below: the ranked picks, exactly what each one lets you do for $0 (from its own help center or app store listing, checked October 2026), what the upgrade costs, and how to avoid the scams that cluster on free sites.

What “free” means on a Black dating site

Every site on page one of this search says “join free”. The three steps they all describe are the same: make a profile, browse, then send a message. The money question is where the paywall sits in those three steps, and there are four models:

  • Free after a match. You like someone, they like you back, and you chat at no cost. Paid tiers sell more likes, Boosts and the list of who liked you. BLK, Hinge and BlackGentry work this way.
  • Free, paid by ads. You can message people without matching first; a subscription removes ads and adds perks. Mingle2 is the example here.
  • Free to reply. You can answer messages, but someone has to pay to start the conversation. AfroRomance and BlackCupid sit here, with conditions.
  • Free to look. Browse profiles and daily matches, then pay to send or even read a message. BlackPeopleMeet says so plainly in its app listing, and Zoosk and eharmony work the same way.

If you only want apps with no paywall at all, my list of completely free dating apps covers them, and the free dating sites hub sorts every site by what its free tier unlocks.

1. BLK: best free Black dating app overall

BLK is the biggest app made for Black singles. Its Google Play listing describes the free path: set up a free profile, scroll a personalized list, slide right, and if the feeling is mutual “you’re a match and can start chatting in our app right away.” It has 5M+ Android downloads and 4.2 stars from about 138,000 reviews there, and 4.6 stars from about 556,000 ratings on the App Store.

What you pay for: Premium adds a monthly Boost, 5 Super Likes a week, unlimited likes and unlimited rewinds, per BLK’s Premium tier FAQ. Elite adds “See Who’s Liked You”. One thing that changes the math: BLK’s App Updates page says it is testing two free extras with a smaller group, seeing everyone who likes you without a subscription and sending a note straight from a profile. So the main Elite perk may already be free on your phone. Check before you upgrade.

Who it suits: Black singles in larger US cities who want a busy, swipe-style app. The catch: free likes are limited, and my BLK review covers the complaints about fake profiles and the paywall around likes.

2. Hinge: best free ethnicity filter on a mainstream app

If you want a bigger pool than a niche app but still want to date Black singles, Hinge is the strongest free option I found in the research. Its help center lists the preferences every user can set: gender, distance, age range, ethnicity, relationship type and religion. Height, dating intentions and children are for subscribers. Hinge explains why the ethnicity preference exists: it was built after requests from users of minority groups, “including Black people searching for Black Love.”

Matching and messaging are free on every plan, according to Hinge’s subscription page. Free users get a limited number of likes a day, see one incoming like at a time and get one Undo a week. Hinge has 4.4 stars from about 1.13 million ratings on the App Store.

Who it suits: anyone who wants a relationship and a large, mixed pool with a filter. The catch: the daily like limit makes you choosy. My Hinge review has the full picture.

3. BlackGentry: best free option for professionals

BlackGentry is a members-only app: you apply, wait on a list, and a membership committee reviews your profile, per its Google Play listing. Once you are in, “all users can chat with their matches for free and also send a limited number of Direct Messages per day” to people you have not matched with. That second part is rare on a free tier.

The BlackGentry FAQ gives the limits: swipes reset every 12 hours, Direct Messages once a day. Each match has 24 hours to start talking; new profiles get one free time token to extend that, and more are paid. Every user must pass a selfie check against their photos.

Who it suits: career-focused Black singles who want something serious. The catch: purchases are non-refundable, and a smaller pool outside big cities. My BlackGentry review rates it 3 out of 5.

4. Mingle2: best totally free site with Black singles pages

Mingle2 is a general free site, but it runs Black singles pages by region, like its Southern Black singles page, which promises “Message anyone, anytime, always free.” Its Google Play listing backs that up: chat after matching with “no paywall or limits,” and search filters for age, interests, ethnicity and location. It has 4.5 stars from about 382,000 reviews and 10M+ downloads, and it shows ads.

Who it suits: anyone who wants to write to people today without paying. The catch: free sites with open messaging attract scammers, and the page’s own wording leans on “sexy” and “hot,” so expect a casual crowd. See my Mingle2 review.

5. BlackCupid: free to reply to paying members

BlackCupid belongs to Cupid Media, a network of 30+ niche sites, and its home page claims over 300,000 members. The free tier is narrower than it looks. BlackCupid’s help center says a Standard (free) member cannot read or reply to messages from other Standard members, only from paying ones, and can start 3 new conversations per 24 hours. Searching by ethnicity, location and dating intention is a Platinum and Diamond feature.

The Android app has 4.4 stars from about 9,000 reviews and in-app items from $5.49 to $71.90 on Google Play. Who it suits: people open to meeting Black singles abroad as well as nearby. If Africa is the goal, its sister site has more members: see my AfroIntroductions review.

6. AfroRomance: best free option for interracial dating

AfroRomance focuses on Black and white singles. Its FAQ says you can “register, create a profile, add photos, flirt and reply to messages with members for free.” Starting a conversation is what you pay for, and the site lists no prices before you sign up. Its sister site Swirlr has the same free features, so pick one.

The catch: website only, and the FAQ states it “does not conduct background checks.” My AfroRomance review rates it 2.5 out of 5. For more interracial options, the Black and interracial dating sites hub compares them all.

7. Match: free chat, if the listing holds up

Match is the biggest of the mainstream sites the top results recommend for Black singles. Its Google Play listing now says “a free membership alone gives you everything you need to chat,” with custom search and conversation starters, while premium adds unlimited profiles, rewind and advanced filters. That is more generous than Match’s reputation, and the listing does not say how many profiles a free member sees, so treat it as a site to try free and judge in a week. My Match review has the details.

8. BlackPeopleMeet: free to browse, paid to talk

BlackPeopleMeet is the name most lists rank first, and it is run by Match Group Americas, per its App Store listing (4.1 stars from about 21,000 ratings). Its Google Play listing has a “What can I do for free?” box: view full profiles, swipe, see who viewed you, rate daily matches. “Send and receive emails” is in the subscriber list. The same listing adds that its photos “are of models.”

My verdict: BlackPeopleMeet is not a free dating site. Use the free account to see whether there are people near you worth writing to, then decide. Do not pay because a message is waiting that you cannot read.

Big mainstream sites that advertise Black dating

Three of the ten Google results are pages from mainstream brands aimed at Black singles. None of them says what is free, so here is what their own listings say:

  • Zoosk: basic members can see photos, send Winks and Hearts and use Carousel; chatting with connections is part of a paid subscription, per its Google Play listing. Coins renew automatically too. See my Zoosk review.
  • eharmony: an 80+ question compatibility quiz, and “with Premium memberships you can now swap messages,” per its Black dating page. See my eharmony review.
  • EliteSingles: its Black dating page talks about 3 to 7 matches a day and verified profiles, but not about what a free member can do.
  • SoulSingles: one ranking picks it among the top Black dating sites, but its iPhone app has only 19 ratings and had not been updated since July 2025 on the App Store when I checked in October 2026. Too small to recommend.
  • Facebook Dating: not Black-focused, but Meta describes it as “a free dating experience” with no paying to unlock features, so it is a true $0 option if you already use Facebook.

What the upgrade costs

If you do pay, it helps to know the price before the app asks. These are the one-month prices of the main paid tier in each app’s US App Store listing. Where the store lists the same plan at two prices, the table shows both.

AppPlan1 monthOther prices listed
BLKElite$19.99 or $29.99Elite 1 week $17.99 or $19.99; Boost $2.99
AriaPremium$29.99Weekly $19.99; 3 months $54.99
BlackPeopleMeetStandard$29.99 or $34.99Premium features $18.99 to $69.99
AfroIntroductionsGold$33.99Platinum 1 month $39.99
BlackGentryPremium, Deluxe, VIPNot labeled by lengthPremium $14.99; Deluxe 1 week $19.99; Deluxe $34.99; VIP $44.99
Mingle2MinglePlusNo monthly plan3 months $29.99; 1 year $69.99; lifetime $89.99

Prices checked October 2026 in the US App Store. Google Play shows ranges only, such as $0.99 to $199.99 per item for BLK.

Bar chart of one month on each paid tier: BLK Elite $19.99, Aria $29.99, BlackPeopleMeet $29.99, AfroIntroductions Gold $33.99
US App Store prices, checked October 2026. Lowest price where the store lists two.

Two rules save money. Uninstalling an app does not cancel the subscription, as Google Play’s help page warns; cancel in Play Store > Payments & subscriptions, or on iPhone in Settings > your name > Subscriptions, per Apple’s guide. And BLK’s cancel page says every plan renews unless you cancel before the renewal date, then drops you back to a free account. BlackGentry’s FAQ contradicts itself on whether deleting your account cancels the plan, so cancel in the app store first, then delete.

How to choose a free Black dating site

  • You want Black singles near you and a free chat: BLK first, BlackGentry if you want a vetted, career-minded crowd.
  • You want a big pool but date Black singles: Hinge, with the free ethnicity preference set.
  • You want to message people without waiting for a match: Mingle2, or BlackGentry’s daily Direct Messages.
  • You are open to interracial dating: AfroRomance or Swirlr, where you can reply for free.
  • You want to meet someone in Africa or abroad: BlackCupid or AfroIntroductions, knowing messaging is mostly paid and long distance carries more scam risk.
  • You like reading full profiles before deciding: BlackPeopleMeet, with the browse-free, pay-to-talk model in mind.

Safety on free Black dating sites

Free sites mean more fake profiles, because a scammer pays nothing to make one. In Pew Research Center’s 2022 survey of 6,034 US adults, 52% of people who had used dating sites or apps said they had come across someone they thought was trying to scam them. What the sites here actually do about it:

  • BLK uses a video-selfie Face Check that gives matching profiles a Photo Verified badge. Look for it.
  • BlackGentry requires a selfie check and committee approval, but its FAQ also says it does not guarantee any profile is accurate.
  • Mingle2 says on Google Play that a human team reviews photos and reports.
  • AfroRomance runs no background checks, by its own FAQ.

The FTC’s romance scam guide gives the rule that matters most: never send money or gifts to someone you have not met in person. Scammers ask for gift card PINs, wire transfers, payment apps or crypto, and they push to leave the app fast. Report them in the app and at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. My guide to online dating scams walks through the patterns, and the safest dating apps list compares verification tools.

How I ranked them

This ranking is built from public information, not from using the apps: each site’s own help center, pricing and terms, its App Store and Google Play listings, and the reviews on this site. I ranked by how much a free member can actually do (above all, whether you can message without paying), then by how focused the site is on Black singles, the size of its pool from store ratings and downloads, and its safety tools. Testimonials and member counts on brand pages are company claims, so they did not move the ranking. Ratings come from my existing reviews.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best free dating app for Black people?

BLK is the biggest app built for Black singles, and you can match and chat there without paying. If you want a larger, mixed pool, Hinge lets every free user set an ethnicity preference. BlackGentry is the pick for professionals who want something serious.

Is BlackPeopleMeet free?

It is free to join and browse, but not to talk. Its Google Play listing says free members can view profiles, swipe, see who viewed them and rate daily matches, while sending and receiving messages needs a subscription. The one-month Standard plan was $29.99 or $34.99 in the US App Store in October 2026.

Can you message for free on BlackCupid?

Only in part. BlackCupid's help center says free Standard members cannot read or reply to messages from other free members, only from paying ones, and can start 3 new conversations per 24 hours. Paying members can message everyone.

Which ethnicity is least desired on dating apps?

The big apps do not publish current data on this, so be wary of any confident answer. What Hinge does say is that it built its ethnicity preference after requests from minority users, including Black singles looking for Black love. That is one reason Black-focused apps like BLK and BlackGentry exist.

What is kittenfishing in dating?

Kittenfishing is a milder form of catfishing: a real person who presents a flattering but misleading version of themselves, such as old or heavily edited photos or a fudged age or height. Photo verification badges, like BLK's Photo Verified badge, and a quick video call before meeting help you spot it.
