AfroRomance Review 2026: Legit or Waste of Money?
AfroRomance is a legit interracial dating site, not a scam: it has been online since 2003, it is run by Chellaul Corporation in Reno, Nevada, and free members can read and reply to messages, which most paid sites block. But the AfroRomance dating site has no app, hides its prices behind a login, runs no background checks, and its public reviews complain about fake profiles. It is worth a free account if you want a partner of another race; pay only once you see real, local people writing back.
What is AfroRomance, and who runs it?
AfroRomance is a website for interracial dating. The name suggests a Black-only site, but its home page lets you search for Black, White, Latino or Asian singles (or "Any"), and its marketing leans on Black and White couples. The footer reads "Copyright ยฉ 2003-2026 AfroRomance, Chellaul Corporation", and the About page says the site has grown "over the last 23 years". It does not publish a member count: it talks about "thousands" of members and growth "by hundreds of thousands each year", which you cannot check.
The contact page gives a real mailing address (c/o Chellaul Corporation, 1135 Terminal Way, Suite 209, Reno, NV 89502), live chat, phone and email support. Chellaul runs sister sites with the same design, including InterracialDatingCentral and Swirlr. A blog called Fyooz sits on the same domain, with dating advice and success stories.
Who the AfroRomance dating site is for (and who should skip it)
- Good fit: adults in the US who want a serious relationship with someone of another race and like knowing that everyone on the site is open to it. That is the site's main pitch: nobody turns you down for being "the wrong race".
- Also a fit: people who would rather read longer profiles than swipe. The public member pages show age, location, the age range each person wants and a written bio.
- Poor fit: anyone who wants an app, video verification or a big local pool in a small town. The public directories mix US members with many profiles marked "World", so check how many people near you are active before paying.
- Mixed signal for Black women: the top Google result for this search is a Reddit thread in which a dark-skinned Black woman says she joined AfroRomance "and didn't have luck". One post is not data, but the site's own directories skew toward Black women seeking men, so women may get more messages than they want to sort through.
How matching and messaging work
There is no compatibility quiz and no algorithmic "match of the day" worth the name. The About page describes three steps: search for interracial singles, create a free profile with photos, then subscribe to "see who's interested in you and send out new messages". In practice that gives you:
- Search: pick the race you want, gender and age band (18-25, 26-40, 41-55, 56+), then narrow by location. Members can browse by race, gender, state and city.
- Flirts and favorites: send a flirt to show interest. The help FAQ says free members can flirt.
- Messages: open a profile and hit Message. Free members can read and reply; starting a new conversation is a paid feature.
- Who viewed or liked you: paid, per the About page.
The site's own blog post on AfroRomance adds that paid members can upload 15 photos instead of 5, make video calls and use private chat rooms. That post is undated, so treat those details as likely rather than confirmed.
Is AfroRomance free? What you get without paying
More than on most niche sites. The FAQ says you can register, create a profile, add photos, flirt and reply to messages for free. That last part matters: on many paid sites a free member cannot answer a message, so the sender never knows whether you ignored them or simply could not reply. On AfroRomance, if a paying member writes to you, you can answer without spending anything.
What free members cannot do is start conversations or see who is interested in them. In other words, two free members can only flirt at each other. One side has to pay before a conversation can start.
AfroRomance prices in 2026: what is (and is not) published
AfroRomance does not show its subscription prices to visitors. The upgrade page redirects to the login screen, and the Terms of Use (effective September 15, 2025) say "the monthly service charges are subject to change without any notice". The only price list the company publishes is in its own undated blog post:
| Plan | Price listed by AfroRomance | What it implies |
|---|---|---|
| Free basic account | $0 | Profile, photos, flirts, replies |
| 1 month | $19.95 | $19.95 per month |
| 3 months | $13.16 per month ("34% savings") | About $39.48 billed at once |
| 6 months | $5.82 per month ("42% savings") | Does not add up: 42% off $19.95 is about $11.57 a month |
Prices checked October 2026 on AfroRomance's blog post about itself; the post is undated and the 6-month line contradicts its own discount. The About page only promises contact with "tons of singles at once for less than a $1 a day". Google's AI summary for this search quotes $23.96 to $64.56, which I could not confirm at the source. So the honest answer: expect roughly $20 to $30 for one month, and check the real figure on the upgrade screen after you create a free account, before you enter a card.
Subscriptions renew. The account FAQ says the Billing section shows "the date of renewal or expiry", so look there the day you pay.
The 90-day guarantee: the fine print
This is the most unusual thing about AfroRomance, and the most misunderstood. The guarantee page promises a full refund of what you paid during your first 90 days if you are not satisfied. The conditions are strict:
- You must stay subscribed for 90 continuous days. Cancel before then and the guarantee is void.
- You must ask in the 14 days right after those 90 days (days 91 to 104), not before.
- You must ask by telephone; the support team handles the request on the call.
- It applies only to your first subscription, on this account or any other.
- Payments by money order or Western Union are excluded.

What this means for you: the guarantee only works with a plan that runs at least 90 days, or with monthly renewals you let run three times. Put a reminder in your calendar for day 91, and note the US support number from the media page (866-338-7218) or the contact page. The same page claims subscribers have sent in "over 14 times more" success stories than free members, a company figure with no method behind it.
Real profiles or scam? Complaints and ratings
AfroRomance is a real business, but real businesses can still host fake profiles. Here is what the public record shows:
- Trustpilot: 2.5 out of 5 from only 11 reviews, 8 of them one-star, on an unclaimed profile with no company replies (October 2026). Complaints from 2025 and 2026 describe profiles that look fake or bot-like, stale accounts still listed, unclear pricing, and genuine users banned while scammers stay. Eleven reviews is too few to prove much either way.
- App stores: nothing to rate, because there is no app (see below).
- The company's own warning: its safety page lists the scams it sees most: someone far away, often abroad, who asks for money for an emergency, medical bills, airfare or visas; who wants to move to another messenger; who will not meet or talk on the phone; or who sends you to a webcam site. It names Nigeria and Russia as common origins of these stories.
The public directory pages show many profiles listed as "World" rather than a US city. That is not proof of fraud, but combined with the safety page it tells you where the risk sits: overseas profiles that move fast and bring up money.
Safety and verification on AfroRomance
Safety tools are basic. What exists:
- Report Concern on every profile, plus email, phone and live chat support.
- Block: the security FAQ says blocked members can no longer contact or view you. They can still write, but you will not receive those messages.
- Content rules: no nudity, celebrity photos, guns or offensive material; 18+ only.
What does not exist: there is no photo or ID verification badge, and the terms state that the operator "has not and does not conduct criminal background checks on its users". The About page suggests your own checks instead: ask for a video chat, ask for a photo of the person holding an object you choose, never use your personal email to chat, and "never, never, never send money".
One privacy point nobody mentions: section 3 of the terms says your profile "may be shared with other sites operated by Operator" without further notice. If you join AfroRomance, your profile can appear on Chellaul's other dating sites. The privacy policy was last updated October 15, 2025.
Is there an AfroRomance app?
No. In October 2026 there is no AfroRomance or Chellaul app on the App Store or Google Play. The site works in a phone browser (it has a mobile layout and a "Desktop Site" switch). The Google Play result that ranks for this search is AfroIntroductions, a different African dating app from another company, Cupid Media. If you see an app called AfroRomance, it is not from this site.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Free members can read and reply to messages.
- Everyone on it is open to interracial dating, by design.
- Real company with an address, phone line and live chat.
- A 90-day money-back guarantee, rare in online dating.
- Long, written profiles rather than a photo-only swipe deck.
Cons
- Prices are hidden until you log in, and the only published list does not add up.
- No verification badge and no background checks.
- No app on either store.
- Weak public reputation: 2.5 on Trustpilot from 11 reviews, with fake-profile complaints.
- Your profile can be shared on the operator's other sites.
- The guarantee is phone-only and void if you cancel early.
How to cancel AfroRomance and delete your account
- Check your renewal date: My Account, then Billing. The account FAQ says this shows when you subscribed, for how long and when it renews or expires.
- If you are within the guarantee window (days 91 to 104 of your first plan), call support before you cancel and ask for the refund.
- To stop renewals, ask support to cancel through live chat, phone or email on the contact page. The help pages do not spell out a cancel button, and the terms tell you to "notify Operator of termination" via the contact page, so keep a written confirmation.
- To remove your profile: My Account, then Profile, and follow the prompts to close the account temporarily or permanently.
AfroRomance alternatives
If you want a bigger pool, a general app with a race filter or open-minded members often beats a small niche site. Options with a live review here:
- Match: a large serious-dating site with detailed search, if you are happy to pay.
- OkCupid: question-based matching and a usable free tier.
- eHarmony: for marriage-minded daters who want guided matching.
- Zoosk: a broad, casual-to-serious pool.
- Swirl: a small interracial app I would approach with caution.

How I rate it
I give AfroRomance 2.5 out of 5. That rating is based on public pricing, features, safety tools, app store presence, public reviews and value, not on hands-on use. Value for money: 2.5 (free replies and a 90-day guarantee, but prices you cannot see in advance). Safety and verification: 2 (report and block tools and live chat, but no verification and no background checks). Evidence of an active user base: 2 (no member count, no app, only 11 Trustpilot reviews, many overseas profiles in the directories). Features for its audience: 3 (race and preference search and written profiles suit interracial daters). Transparency: 2.5 (a real address, clear guarantee and cancellation steps, but hidden prices and profile sharing across sites).
Frequently asked questions
What is AfroRomance?
AfroRomance is an interracial dating website run by Chellaul Corporation in Reno, Nevada, online since 2003. It focuses on Black and White singles but lets you search for Latino, Asian or any background. Every member is there to date someone of another race.
Is AfroRomance free?
Partly. You can register, create a profile, add photos, flirt and reply to messages for free. Starting new conversations and seeing who is interested in you require a paid subscription.
How much does AfroRomance cost?
AfroRomance does not show prices before you log in. Its own undated blog lists one month at $19.95 with cheaper per-month rates on 3- and 6-month plans, but the figures do not add up, so check the upgrade screen after creating a free account.
Does AfroRomance have an app?
No. In October 2026 there is no AfroRomance app on the App Store or Google Play. The site works in a phone browser, and any app using the name is not from this company.
Is AfroRomance legit or a scam?
The company is legit: it has a real address, phone support and a long history. But it runs no background checks and has no verification badge, and its few public reviews complain about fake profiles, so never send money to anyone you meet there.
Which dating app do Black men use?
No single app dominates. Black men use mainstream apps such as Match, OkCupid and Zoosk as well as niche sites like AfroRomance and BLK; the right one depends on whether you want a big local pool or a site where everyone is open to interracial dating.
