Best Completely Free Dating Apps in 2026 (Really Free)
The only big dating app that is completely free, with no paid tier at all, is Facebook Dating. Mingle2 and MeetMe come next: messaging is free and unlimited, ads pay the bills, and the upgrades are optional. If you can live with a daily like limit, OkCupid, Hinge, Plenty of Fish, Tinder and Bumble let you match and chat without paying, while most small apps that call themselves “100% free” in the app store sell VIP plans from $9.99 to $54.99.
Below: the ranked picks with what each lets you do for $0, the price of the paywall when there is one (from the official App Store and Google Play listings, checked October 2026), the store-listing tricks to spot, and how to make sure a “free trial” never turns into a charge.

What “completely free” really means
Every app in this search is “free” to download. What matters is what happens when you want to send a message. There are four models, and the store listing does not always tell you which one you are looking at.
- No paid tier at all. Facebook Dating is the only mainstream example. Meta’s own announcement calls it “a free dating experience” where you do not pay to unlock features.
- Free, paid by ads. Messaging is free and unlimited; a subscription removes ads and adds perks. Mingle2 and MeetMe work this way.
- Freemium. Matching and chatting with your matches are free, but likes are capped and the handy extras (see who likes you, filters, travel modes) cost a monthly fee. OkCupid, Hinge, Plenty of Fish, Tinder and Bumble.
- Free to join, pay to talk. You can make a profile and browse, then reading or sending messages needs a subscription or coins. Several sites on page one of this search sit here, which is why the free dating sites hub sorts apps by what the free tier actually unlocks.
1. Facebook Dating: best completely free dating app
If “completely free” means you will never see a paywall, this is the one. Facebook Dating lives inside the regular Facebook app. Meta’s September 2025 announcement describes it as free within the Facebook app and says its goal is to help people find matches without “paying to unlock product features”. That same update added a dating assistant in the Matches tab (rolling out in the US and Canada) and Meet Cute, which sends you one surprise match a week and can be switched off.
The basics come from Meta’s US launch post: you must be 18 or older, your Dating profile is separate from your main profile, and Secret Crush lets you pick up to nine Facebook friends or Instagram followers, matching only if they pick you too.
Who it suits: anyone who already uses Facebook and wants a real $0 option. The catch: you need a Facebook account, it only works inside the Facebook app, and Meta publishes no total user count. The one figure it gives: hundreds of thousands of US and Canadian adults aged 18 to 29 create Dating profiles every month.
2. Mingle2: best free site for messaging anyone
Mingle2 is the closest thing to a completely free dating site after Facebook. Its Google Play listing says core features stay “100% free”: matching and chatting, search filters, seeing who is online, forums and its themed community rooms. Ads pay for it. MinglePlus adds worldwide visibility, seeing who likes you, boosts, read receipts and no ads. On the App Store it costs $29.99 for 3 months, $47.99 for 6 months or $69.99 for 12 months.
One rule to know from its help center: members without a profile photo can only message 3 people a day. Add a photo and the limit goes away. The bigger cost is your attention: the Mingle2 review explains the scam warnings its own Safety Hub publishes and why the crowd is more international than local.
3. MeetMe: best for free chat without paying
This answers the most common question in this search, “what dating sites offer free chat without paying?”. MeetMe’s Google Play listing says “messaging is always free and unlimited”, with text and video chat. Premium unblurs who likes you, boosts your profile for 2 hours, lets you undo swipes and removes ads.
The catch: MeetMe calls itself a social app now, and the listing leads with livestreams and gifts rather than dating. If you want to chat and see where it goes, fine; if you want a relationship, read the MeetMe review before you invest time there.
4. OkCupid: best freemium app for a relationship
OkCupid gives you the most for nothing among the mainstream relationship apps. Its listing calls it “a free dating app for everyone” with an optional subscription that lets you see who likes you without liking them first, send unlimited likes and set Dealbreakers. The free part is the part that matters: a detailed profile, compatibility questions, a match percentage and chat with your matches. It is also one of the most inclusive apps, with over 60 gender identities and orientations to choose from. More in the OkCupid review.
5. Hinge: best free tier for serious dating
Hinge’s subscription page shows the split plainly: matching and messaging are included for everyone, while unlimited likes, unlimited undo, seeing all incoming likes at once and advanced filters belong to Hinge+ and HingeX. Everyone still sees their incoming likes, just not all at once. That is enough to date on Hinge without paying, only more slowly. It has the highest rating on this page (4.5); more in the Hinge review.
6. Plenty of Fish: best for messaging before a match
Most freemium apps make you wait for a mutual like. Plenty of Fish’s listing gives you unlimited messaging once you match, plus one First Contact a day to message someone straight to their inbox before any match. Selfie Verification and Share My Date are built in. Paid extras exist, but you do not need them to talk to people. See the Plenty of Fish review for what they add.
7. SciMatch: most features free, iPhone only
Google’s AI answer names SciMatch next to Facebook Dating, and its App Store listing backs up the free part: unlimited swipes, unlimited likes, free messaging, seeing who liked you and advanced filters, with optional upgrades from $11.99 to $33.99 a month. That is more than any other app here unlocks for free. The catch: it is iPhone only, it has 281 App Store ratings (a small community), and its pitch is AI that reads personality from your face. The SciMatch review explains why I treat those scores as entertainment.
8. Tinder: free, but is it completely free?
No. Tinder is free to swipe, match and chat, which is all you need to get a date. Its listing sells three tiers on top: Plus (unlimited likes, Passport, unlimited rewinds, Incognito), Gold (adds seeing who likes you, a monthly Boost, weekly Super Likes) and Platinum (likes prioritized, a compliment before matching). Since Plus is what unlocks unlimited likes, the free tier has a cap. It is still the app most daters have tried: in Pew Research Center’s 2022 survey, 46% of US online daters had used Tinder, more than any other app. More in the Tinder review.
9. Bumble: best free safety tools
Bumble’s listing puts ID Verification, video chat, Snooze Mode and sharing your date details among the free features. Premium adds seeing everyone who likes you, advanced filters, rematching expired connections, Incognito and Travel Mode.
One correction to older guides, including the listicle ranking in this search: women no longer have to send the first message. Bumble’s help center now says both people get one opening message, with 72 hours from the match to send it, and Opening Moves are gone. Read the Bumble review for the rest.
What free costs if you upgrade
None of the pages ranking for this search puts a number on the upgrade. Here is what the paid tier costs on the apps that publish a price on the App Store, against Facebook Dating’s zero.

The big freemium apps do not list plan prices on their store pages: the price shows in the app before you pay. What Google Play does show is the range of in-app items each one sells, checked October 2026:
| App | Google Play in-app items | Play rating |
|---|---|---|
| Mingle2 | $1.99 to $89.99 | 4.5 (382K reviews) |
| MeetMe | $0.99 to $249.99 | 4.0 (1.64M) |
| OkCupid | $0.99 to $179.99 | 3.4 (688K) |
| Hinge | $0.49 to $284.99 | 3.5 (490K) |
| Plenty of Fish | $0.99 to $399.99 | 3.7 (1.68M) |
| Tinder | $0.49 to $299.99 | 3.9 (9.25M) |
| Bumble | $0.49 to $259.99 | 3.8 (1.63M) |
Prices checked October 2026 on each app’s Google Play listing, linked in its section above. The top of each range is usually a long plan or a bundle, not a monthly fee.
Is paying worth it? A little. In Pew’s survey of 6,034 US adults (July 2022), 35% of online daters had ever paid, and 58% of paying users rated their experience positive against about half of those who never paid. Picking an app whose crowd suits you matters more than the subscription.
Apps that say “100% free” but sell VIP
Six of the ten Google results for “dating app completely free” are app store listings for small apps. Their descriptions promise free everything; their own store pages say otherwise. What each listing showed in October 2026:
| App | What the description says | What the store page shows | Rating |
|---|---|---|---|
| Meet24 (WILDEC LLC) | “ABSOLUTELY FREE” | Premium $12.99 a month, $34.99 for 3 months, $59.99 for 6, $74.99 a year, auto-renewing | 3.2 (344, App Store) |
| Meet4U (WILDEC LLC) | Chat and meet people nearby “for free” | Contains ads; in-app items $1.99 to $74.99 | 4.4 (72.5K, Play) |
| xMatch | Free | VIP $14.99 for 1 month, $29.99 for 3, $39.99 for 6 | 4.1 (2.9K, App Store) |
| Sweet Meet (FlintCast) | Free | Contains ads; VIP $9.99 a week, $14.99 to $28.99 a month, VIP Gold $54.99 | 4.3 (2.9K, App Store) |
| Freemeet | “All the main functions without any restrictions” | Contains ads; in-app items $9.99 to $94.99; last updated September 2025 | 2.9 (794, Play) |
| Casual Hookup BXN | “No payment required”, “No ads” | Google Play labels it “Contains ads” | 3.9 (21.2K, Play) |
| Chat & Date Local Singles | “100% Free Dating App” | Contains ads; support is a personal Hotmail address | 4.3 (998, Play) |
A few things stand out. Meet24 and Meet4U come from the same developer, and Meet24 says “absolutely free” a few lines above four subscription plans. Sweet Meet’s App Store privacy label says it may use your location, contact info and other data to track you across other companies’ apps, and the SweetMeet review found its terms let your profile appear on sister apps. Freemeet’s screenshots are in French, a hint that its members are not mostly in the US.
Is Meet24 a dating app? Yes, a flirting and chat app from WILDEC LLC on the App Store, rated 18+. The listing says free members can see who is online, chat, and send photos and video messages, then sells four Premium plans that renew unless you turn auto-renew off at least 24 hours before the period ends. The review Apple shows first is titled “Lots of fake people!!!”.
How to check if a dating app is really free in 30 seconds
- Scroll to the price lines. On the App Store, look for “In-App Purchases” and the list under Information. On Google Play, tap “About this app” and look for “In-app purchases” and a price range. Free with nothing listed is rare.
- Compare the label with the text. “Contains ads” on a listing that promises no ads, or plan prices under “absolutely free”, tell you how careful the developer is.
- Find out what messaging costs. Search the description for “VIP”, “coins”, “credits” or “unlock chat”. If talking needs any of them, it is not free.
- Read the lowest reviews first. Look for “fake profiles”, “bots”, “charged” or “trial”.
- Check who runs it. A company name, an address and a help center are good signs. A personal email address as the only contact is not.
Free online dating sites without registration and payment?
Short answer: you can look without registering, but you cannot message without an account, and you should be wary of any site that says you can. Mingle2’s homepage shows a “Members Online Now” strip of profiles to anyone, and its sign-up form asks only for your gender, who you are looking for, age, distance and city. Facebook Dating needs your existing Facebook account rather than a new sign-up. On every legit app, an account is what lets other members block and report you, and lets the app remove scammers.
Sites that offer anonymous chat with no account and no moderation are where bots and scammers do best. If “no registration” matters to you because of privacy, a better route is a free app with a separate dating profile (Facebook Dating keeps it apart from your main profile) or an app where you can hide your profile, like Bumble’s Snooze Mode.
If you pay: turn off auto-renew the same day
Every paid tier on this page renews automatically. Meet24’s App Store listing, for example, says the subscription renews unless you turn it off at least 24 hours before the end of the period. Mingle2’s help center warns that closing your account without cancelling MinglePlus can still get you charged.
- iPhone: Settings, tap your name, Subscriptions, pick the app, Cancel Subscription (Apple’s instructions).
- Android: open your subscriptions in Google Play, pick the app, Cancel subscription. Google is explicit that “when you uninstall the app, your subscription won’t cancel” (Google Play Help).
- Bought on the website: cancel in the site’s account settings. On Mingle2, that is Settings, Premium Membership Status, Cancel Your Premium Membership.
Which free dating app should you pick?
- You want to pay nothing, ever: Facebook Dating.
- You want a relationship: Hinge or OkCupid on the free tier. More options in my serious dating apps ranking.
- You want to chat and see where it goes: MeetMe or Mingle2.
- You want to write first without waiting for a match: Plenty of Fish’s daily First Contact.
- You want casual dates: Tinder, or see my hookup dating sites page. The free hookup apps in this search’s top results are the ones with the most store-listing red flags.
- You are over 50: Facebook Dating first, then my best dating apps over 50 ranking.
- An app asks for coins or VIP to keep a conversation going: delete it.
Free apps draw scammers: how to stay safe
A free sign-up is free for scammers too. In the same Pew survey, 52% of online daters said they had come across someone they believed was trying to scam them. The FTC’s romance scam guide lists the pattern: they want to move off the app quickly, they can never meet (abroad, on an oil rig, in the military), and then there is an emergency, a plane ticket or a crypto “opportunity”. They ask for wire transfers, gift cards, payment apps or cryptocurrency.
- Never send money or gift card codes to someone you have not met in person.
- Prefer verified profiles: Bumble’s ID Verification and Plenty of Fish’s Selfie Verification are free.
- Run a reverse image search on photos that look too polished.
- Meet in a public place, keep the first date short, and tell a friend where you are. Bumble and Plenty of Fish let you share your date details from the app.
- Report the profile in the app and at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
How I ranked them
This ranking is built from public information, not from paying for each app: the official App Store and Google Play listings (what is free, what is paid, the listed prices and the ratings), the apps’ help centers and company announcements, safety and verification tools, and who each app is built for. Apps that are free all the way through rank above freemium ones, and freemium apps rank by how much the free tier lets you do. Where I have a review, the table reuses its rating. For free sites beyond apps, start at the free dating sites hub.
Frequently asked questions
What dating app is 100% free?
Facebook Dating is the only mainstream dating app with no paid tier: Meta describes it as a free dating experience inside the Facebook app with no features to unlock by paying. Mingle2 and MeetMe come close, with free unlimited messaging paid for by ads and optional upgrades.
What dating sites offer free chat without paying?
Facebook Dating, MeetMe and Mingle2 let you message for free with no limit. OkCupid, Hinge, Tinder and Bumble let you chat free with your matches, and Plenty of Fish adds one free message a day to someone you have not matched with yet.
Is Tinder completely free?
No. Tinder is free to swipe, match and chat, which is enough to get dates, but unlimited likes, Passport, seeing who likes you and other extras come with Tinder Plus, Gold or Platinum. Prices show in the app before you pay.
Is Meet24 a dating app?
Yes. Meet24 is a flirting and chat app from WILDEC LLC, rated 18+ on the App Store. It calls itself absolutely free, but its listing also sells Premium at $12.99 a month up to $74.99 a year, renewing automatically, and it has a 3.2 rating from 344 reviews.
Which free dating app is most successful?
By use, Tinder: in Pew Research Center's 2022 survey, 46% of US online daters had used it, more than any other app. For relationships on a free tier, Hinge and OkCupid are the strongest options because matching and messaging cost nothing.
Can I use a dating site without registration?
You can browse some sites without an account, such as Mingle2's members online strip, but no legit dating app lets you message without registering. An account is what lets members block and report you, so anonymous no-signup chat sites are a red flag for bots and scams.
