Best Ashley Madison Alternatives in 2026 (Honest Picks)
The best Ashley Madison alternatives for US adults are Heated Affairs if you want another affair site on a monthly plan instead of credits, AdultFriendFinder if you want a bigger crowd and a hookup more than an affair, and Feeld if your partner knows and agrees. Pure suits short, low-trace chats, and Cougar Life suits women dating younger men. None of these sites like Ashley Madison is free of fake profiles, so pick by the reason you are leaving, not by the size of the member count.
Below: the five picks side by side, what switching really costs (prices checked October 2026 at each app store or official page), what to do before you close your Ashley Madison account, and the sites other lists recommend that I would not send a US reader to.
Ashley Madison alternatives compared
Ratings are out of 5 and come from my original hands-on reviews, linked in each row. Prices checked October 2026; every source is linked in the sections below.
| Site | Best for | Cheapest way in | Free | Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Heated Affairs | Another affair site, without credits | 1 month of Gold, about $39.95 | Join and browse | 3 |
| AdultFriendFinder | A bigger crowd, casual hookups | Standard, about $19.95 a month | Join, browse, forums | 3.8 |
| Feeld | Open relationships, with consent | Free download; Majestic $29.99 for 30 days | Download and set up a profile | 4 |
| Pure | Short chats that leave fewer traces | Weekly membership $13.49 | Women join free | 3.5 |
| Cougar Life | Women dating younger men | Credit package from $13.99 | Join and browse | 4 |
Why people leave Ashley Madison
The complaints behind this search are remarkably consistent across the reviews and forum threads that rank for it.
- Credits add up. Women use Ashley Madison free, men pay per action. In my Ashley Madison review I found a standard message costs 5 credits and that a pack drains fast. On the App Store, in-app items run from a $14.99 “50 Credit Promo” to a $249.99 “Ultimate Package”, and on Google Play from $7.99 to $395.99 per item (October 2026).
- Fake profiles. This is not just forum gossip. In December 2016 the operators of Ashley Madison settled charges with the FTC, 13 states and the District of Columbia, which alleged that fake female “engager” profiles were used to turn men into paying members, and that a $19 “Full Delete” did not fully delete data. The company paid $1.6 million in total.
- A split reputation. The iPhone app has 4.1 stars from 79K ratings, but the Android app sits at 2.7 stars from 21.2K reviews (both checked October 2026). Read the one-star reviews before you blame yourself for a quiet inbox.
- Nobody nearby. A frequent complaint is matches who live hours away. That depends on your city more than on the site, which is why a bigger general crowd (AdultFriendFinder) sometimes beats a dedicated affair site.
Ashley Madison still does privacy better than most: the App Store listing describes photo masking, an iOS-only Stealth Mode and billing that shows as “AMDA”. So if privacy is the only thing you like about it, check what each alternative offers before you move.
Pick the alternative that fixes your reason for leaving
Each option below solves one specific Ashley Madison problem, and none of them solves all of them.

- If credits are the problem: Heated Affairs, a flat monthly price. Just turn off auto-renew.
- If there is nobody near you: AdultFriendFinder, a far bigger and more explicit crowd, with less secrecy.
- If secrecy itself is wearing you down: Feeld, after an honest talk with your partner.
- If you want chats that do not pile up on your phone: Pure.
- If you are a woman who wants younger men: Cougar Life, from the same company as Ashley Madison.
- If you just want it free: see the free alternatives section below; for a woman, Ashley Madison itself is already free.
1. Heated Affairs: the closest like-for-like alternative
Heated Affairs is the affair-branded site of the FriendFinder network. Its homepage footer says it is operated in the US by Various, Inc. in Mountain View, California. Joining is free; real messaging needs a paid Gold membership.
In my Heated Affairs review I found Gold at about $39.95 for one month, $80.85 for three months and $239.40 for twelve, and rated the site 3 out of 5: real privacy tools (blurred photos and masks), lots of fake profiles, constant upsells. The price list sits behind sign-up, so it could not be reconfirmed this month. If you want to look, the site is Heated Affairs.
Who it suits: men tired of buying credit packs who still want a site where everyone knows the deal. The catch: it is a subscription that renews on its own, and it is far more explicit than Ashley Madison. The help center says auto renew charges the card on file for the membership and any add-ons; to stop it, go to My Account, then Billing History & Credit Card Info, and click OFF under product status.
2. AdultFriendFinder: best for a bigger crowd
Almost every list that ranks for this search includes AdultFriendFinder, and Similarweb’s competitor list for ashleymadison.com puts it first by audience overlap (September 2026). It is a general adult hookup site, not a discreet one: profiles are frank, content is explicit, and plenty of members are single.
In my AdultFriendFinder review I rated it 3.8 out of 5: Standard runs about $19.95 a month and Gold about $39.95, the crowd is big in major cities, and bots cluster on free accounts. Its help center describes the same auto-renew as Heated Affairs. The site is at AdultFriendFinder.
Who it suits: people in a big metro who want a one-off encounter and can live with a less private site. The catch: privacy is your job. Use a separate email and no recognizable photos. More sites in this vein are on my hookup dating sites page.
3. Feeld: best when your partner knows
If what you miss is variety rather than secrecy, and your partner is open to the conversation, an open arrangement removes every risk on this page. Feeld is built for couples and singles exploring open relationships. On the App Store it has 4.3 stars from 102K ratings, and Majestic Membership costs $29.99 for 30 days, $49.99 for 90 days or $149.99 for a year (October 2026). Feeld’s own privacy page says Incognito, which lets you browse without appearing in Discover unless you like someone first, is included with Majestic.
I rated it 4 out of 5 in my Feeld review, where most profiles seemed real and active. Who it suits: couples, and anyone tired of hiding. The catch: it is not a hiding place. The community expects partners to know. Couple-focused sites are on my swinger dating sites page.
4. Pure: best for short chats that leave fewer traces
Pure works like a personal ad with a timer: you post what you want and chat with people who answer. Its App Store listing (Online Classifieds AG, 4.3 stars from 86K ratings, October 2026) says photos self-destruct right after being seen, chats, photos and audio cannot be saved to the phone’s gallery, and you get a notification if someone takes a screenshot. Membership costs $13.49 a week or $29.99 a month.
In my Pure review I found women sign up free, men pay, and a match gives you 24 hours to connect before the chat disappears, and rated it 3.5 out of 5. Who it suits: someone who wants a quick, direct chat without a long message history. The catch: a screenshot notification is not a screenshot block, and the timer makes slow-burn conversations hard. It is a hookup app, not an affair community.
5. Cougar Life: same owner, different crowd
Cougar Life is for women who want to date younger men, and younger men who want older women. In my Cougar Life review I noted it was launched in 2006 by Ruby Life, the company behind Ashley Madison, that women can message free, and I rated it 4 out of 5. Its App Store listing shows a Premium Credit Package at $13.99, a 1 Month Membership at $49.99 and a 3 Month Membership at $99.99 (October 2026). You can see it at Cougar Life.
Who it suits: women who liked Ashley Madison’s polish but want a specific age dynamic. The catch: it is not an affair site and does not market itself as one, and switching to it does not take you away from Ashley Madison’s parent company. More options are on my cougar dating apps page.
What switching really costs
Ashley Madison charges per action; most alternatives charge per month. That changes both your budget and your paper trail. Prices checked October 2026.
| Site | Smallest purchase | Monthly option | Renews on its own? | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ashley Madison | 50 Credit Promo, $14.99 | “Ashley Madison Preferred”, $32.99 | Credit packs: no | App Store |
| Heated Affairs | Gold, 1 month | About $39.95 | Yes, until turned off | Original review, help center |
| AdultFriendFinder | Standard, 1 month | About $19.95 (Gold about $39.95) | Yes, until turned off | Original review, help center |
| Feeld | Single Ping, $2.99 | Majestic, $29.99 for 30 days | Store subscription | App Store |
| Pure | Weekly membership, $13.49 | $29.99 | Store subscription | App Store |
| Cougar Life | Premium Credit Package, $13.99 | $49.99 | Check before paying | App Store |
The App Store does not say how many credits each Ashley Madison package holds, and web prices can differ from in-app prices. The cheapest honest test of any site on this page is its smallest purchase or one month, never an annual plan.
Before you leave Ashley Madison
None of the pages ranking for this search mention it, but closing the old account properly matters as much as picking the new one.
- Use or lose your credits. In my Ashley Madison review I found unused credits are forfeited when the account closes and that inactive accounts are deleted after 12 months.
- Cancel anything recurring where you bought it. If you paid inside the app, deleting the account does not stop a subscription: cancel in your Apple subscriptions or in Google Play subscriptions.
- Decide between hiding and deleting. Hiding keeps your data on file; deleting removes the profile. Given the 2016 FTC case about a “Full Delete” that did not delete, keep your own record of when and how you deleted.
- Clean up the phone. Remove the app and unsubscribe from the marketing emails, which often outlive the account.
- Expect the statement line. Past charges stay on your card history as “AMDA”, whatever you delete.
Same company, same fine print
Leaving a brand is not always leaving a company. Heated Affairs and AdultFriendFinder carry the same footer: both are “operated in the US by Various Inc.” at the same Mountain View address, and both say that “persons appearing in photographs and videos may not be actual members” and that the site “does not conduct criminal background screening of its members” (AdultFriendFinder homepage, October 2026). Cougar Life comes from Ashley Madison’s own parent. None of that makes them bad picks, but it means:
- if you are leaving Heated Affairs, AdultFriendFinder is not a fresh start, and the reverse;
- the same fake-profile warnings apply on both, so verify everyone yourself;
- billing practices and auto-renew rules will look identical.
Gleeden, Victoria Milan and Illicit Encounters
These three sit on most lists, in Google’s own summary, and in Similarweb’s competitor list. Here is what their own pages show this month, which is not what the lists suggest.
- Illicit Encounters calls itself a married-dating site running since 2004, but its sign-up form lists only the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. For a US reader, it is not an option.
- Victoria Milan’s homepage claims 53% women and 47% men and says the site is owned by Nextlove Limited in Malta, with no prices shown. Its iPhone app, sold by Star Media Labs AS, has only 222 ratings (3.9 stars) and had not been updated since July 2025 when checked; the listing shows Premium memberships from $79.99 to $599.99 without saying how long they last. Too many open questions to rank it.
- Gleeden is best known in France. Its website blocked every request this month, and it did not appear in US App Store or Google Play searches, so its prices and US member base could not be checked at the source.
Lists also mention Seeking and Secret Benefits. Those are sugar dating sites, a different arrangement with its own rules: see my Seeking review and the sugar daddy sites page.
Is there a free site like Ashley Madison?
Not really, and the Reddit thread ranking first for this search asks exactly that. Every site above lets you join and browse free, but messaging costs money for men. The free options people suggest each have a catch:
- Craigslist personals still appear on some lists, but craigslist’s own page says it took personals offline after the FOSTA bill. Anything posing as them now is not craigslist.
- Reddit communities are free and text-based, with no profile checks, no masked photos and no safety tools. Treat every reply as unverified.
- Mainstream free apps have huge crowds, but most members are single and expect you to be too, and your face is visible to anyone you know who uses them. Lying about your status there is a fast way to hurt someone who did not sign up for it.
- If you are a woman, Ashley Madison is already free, as are Cougar Life messaging and Pure sign-up.

Safety on any affair site
People on affair sites are an obvious target, because a scammer knows you are unlikely to go to your partner for help. The FTC’s romance scam guide lists the pattern: someone who quickly moves you off the site, cannot meet, then needs money for an emergency, a ticket, legal fees or a crypto investment, paid by wire transfer, gift card, payment app or cryptocurrency.
- Never send money or gift card codes to someone you have not met.
- Verify before meeting: a reverse image search on their photos, then a short video call.
- Meet in public, get there on your own, and tell someone you trust where you will be.
- Share less, later: no surname, workplace or social media until you trust the person, and no photo that shows your face, home or car.
- Report fake or abusive profiles to the site, and scams at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. If someone threatens to expose you, do not pay, save the evidence and report it to the FBI’s IC3.
The step-by-step version, including what to do about extortion, is in my affair dating sites guide. And one honest note: the Heated Affairs homepage itself asks “Are you sure about an affair?” and suggests talking to your partner or a counselor first. That is worth a minute before any of the purchases above.
How I ranked them
The order reflects how well each site fixes a reason people leave Ashley Madison, for a US reader, in October 2026: cost model, privacy tools, evidence of real members, transparency about billing and renewal, and safety features. The ratings are those of my original reviews of each site, linked above; prices, app ratings and policies come from public sources opened this month (App Store and Google Play listings, help centers, site footers, the FTC). I did not rank sites whose US availability or prices I could not confirm. More options for leaving other big apps are in the dating app alternatives hub. A site that pays us a commission does not rank higher for it.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a better alternative to Ashley Madison?
It depends on why you are leaving. Heated Affairs swaps credits for a monthly plan, AdultFriendFinder has a bigger crowd for hookups, and Feeld is the better route if your partner knows. None of them is free of fake profiles.
What is the best app for discreet affairs?
Ashley Madison is still the app built most around discretion, with photo masking, an iOS Stealth Mode and billing that shows as AMDA. Among alternatives, Heated Affairs offers blurred photos and masks, and Pure has self-destructing photos and screenshot notifications.
Is there a free site like Ashley Madison?
Not for men: every affair site lets you join and browse free but charges to message. Women use Ashley Madison free. Reddit communities are free but have no profile checks or safety tools, and craigslist took its personals offline after the FOSTA bill.
Is there a website for secret affairs?
Yes. Ashley Madison and Heated Affairs are built for people who are married or attached and want privacy. Illicit Encounters is UK and Ireland only, and Gleeden is mainly European, so they are poor picks for US readers.
What is the best website for finding hookups?
For a large crowd of adults after casual encounters, AdultFriendFinder is the usual answer, rated 3.8 out of 5 in my original review. It is explicit and less private than an affair site, so use a separate email and no recognizable photos.
