Best Free Transgender Dating Sites in 2026 (Really Free)

The best free transgender dating site depends on who you are. OkCupid is the strongest free all-rounder, because you can match and message without paying. Taimi and HER are the best LGBTQ+ apps with free chat once you match, Lex is the pick for trans people who want a space without cis men, and Transgenderdate is the best trans-specific site, since verified trans members get its VIP tier free. If you are a man looking for trans women, know that My Transgender Date is free for trans women only: men pay $29.90 a month to message.

Below: the ranked picks, what “free” really covers on each one (can you message without paying, and who pays), what an upgrade costs, the sites that are free in name only, and the safety steps that matter most on trans dating apps. Prices and features come from each app’s own App Store listing or website, checked October 2026.

Prices checked October 2026 on each app’s US App Store listing (linked in its section) and on Bindr’s pricing page. “Length not labeled” means the store lists several prices without saying which is the one-month plan.

How I ranked them

This list is built from public information, not from new hands-on testing: each site’s App Store listing, its own pages about pricing, verification and moderation, and its store ratings in October 2026. Each pick is scored from 1 to 5 on value for money (here, mostly how much you can do free), safety and verification, evidence of an active user base, features for trans users, and transparency about prices, renewal and who runs the site, then averaged and rounded to the half point. Sites I have already reviewed keep the rating from that review. Being trans-only earned no bonus on its own: a site has to let you actually talk to people without paying.

1. OkCupid: best free transgender dating option overall

OkCupid is a mainstream app, but it is the one where “free” goes furthest. Its App Store listing says you can create a free profile and that matching and messaging are part of the free version, with pronouns on your profile and over 60 gender identities and sexual orientations to choose from. It has 4.3 stars from 289K ratings and is run by Match Group.

Premium is optional: it adds seeing who likes you first, unlimited likes and dealbreakers. The listing shows Premium prices from $7.99 to $59.99 without saying which length each covers. In my OkCupid review I found the free tier genuinely usable, with the catch that the low barrier to entry lets in fake profiles.

  • Pick it if: you want the biggest free pool, you are trans and open to dating cis people, or you are cis and want to meet trans people where nobody is a fetish category.
  • The catch: it is not trans-specific, so you will still meet people who did not read your profile.

2. Taimi: best LGBTQ+ app with free chat

Taimi is an LGBTQ+ dating app with a social feed, Stories and live streams. Its trans chat page says chat is free for everyone once you match through a mutual like, while premium members can start a chat before matching. The App Store listing claims 37M+ members, says “every profile is verified”, and shows 4.4 stars from 215K ratings. Paid tiers (Bronze, Silver, Gold) run from $0.99 to $34.99 per item and add premium filters, seeing your visitors, unlimited likes and a custom location.

In my Taimi review the paywalls were the main frustration: changing your distance filter and seeing who liked you are paid, and bots still slip through.

  • Pick it if: you want dating and community in one place, and you are fine waiting for mutual likes.
  • The catch: my Taimi review notes a base that skews young and male, so trans women looking for women may find a bigger pool on HER.

3. Lex: best for T4T and queer community

Lex is a text-first app: you post short written personals instead of swiping on photos. It is built for queer, trans and non-binary people, and it keeps cis straight men out. In my Lex review I was able to do everything essential without paying, messaging included, and I noted a strong T4T (trans for trans) presence.

Its App Store listing shows 4.4 stars from 5.9K ratings and optional purchases: Lex Plus at $7.99 or $15.99, Lexplore passes at $3.99 (one week) or $5.99 (one month), and paid post packs. The listing does not say what each one unlocks, and one reviewer there finds the free version “somewhat limited” for dating.

  • Pick it if: you are trans or non-binary and want to date inside the community, or you want friends and events as much as dates.
  • The catch: it is not for cis men looking for trans women, and the listing does not describe any profile verification.

4. Transgenderdate: best trans-specific free site

Transgenderdate is a site for trans women, trans men, non-binary people and the people who want to date them. Its homepage says it is free to join, and that you can build a profile, browse, search by gender, age and distance, favorite people and see who viewed you without paying. The rare part: trans members who verify get VIP free, permanently, with no card and no trial that renews. VIP adds seeing who is into you, every photo, and sending video, voice notes and private photos.

On safety, the site says every profile photo is reviewed by a person and that report and block are one tap away in any conversation. What it does not publish: the VIP price for non-trans members, how verification works, how many members it has (“thousands”), or the company behind it.

  • Pick it if: you are trans and want a dedicated site where the full experience costs nothing.
  • The catch: an anonymous operator and no published prices. Admirers should check the VIP price in their account before paying.

5. HER: best for trans women and non-binary people into women

HER is a queer women’s app, and its trans dating page says trans men and women, non-binary and genderqueer people are always welcome. Each user is verified by linking a social media account and completing a photo check, and moderators monitor the app. Its App Store listing says “all of our core features are completely free”, claims 14 million+ users, shows 4.4 stars from 66K ratings, and says premium starts at $14.99 a month.

In my HER review the free tier let me match and chat with people who liked me first and join communities, but search filters and discovering new people were paid, and the free ads were heavy.

  • Pick it if: you are a trans woman or non-binary person who dates women and wants a space without cis straight men.
  • The catch: one trans reviewer on the App Store says it “gestures to being inclusive” but is not mainly geared to trans women. It is not for men of any kind seeking trans women.

6. TG Personals: best 100% free site with no upgrades

TG Personals is the only pick with nothing to buy. Its About page says it has been online since 1999, “will always be 100% free to use”, never charges fees, and pays for hosting with banner ads. The homepage lets you search by gender identity (cis, trans, non-binary), age (18 to 99), what you are looking for (friendship, love, sex, roommates) and distance from a US zip code, from 10 to 500 miles. It shows a scam warning: never send money or share personal details like your email with strangers.

  • Pick it if: you want a classic personals site where nobody, trans or cis, hits a paywall.
  • The catch: no verification is described anywhere, the operator is not named, and the ads include links to cam sites. Treat every profile as unverified.

7. My Transgender Date: best for trans women who want to date men

My Transgender Date is for trans women and the men who are attracted to them. The site says it is 100% free for trans women. Men can create a profile and review matches free, but must upgrade to Premium to chat. The site calls it “a small fee” without a number; the App Store listing gives it: US$29.90 a month. The listing shows 4.3 stars from 476 ratings, and the seller is Building Bridges Ltd EOOD.

The site says every profile is reviewed (it claims 135,000+ profiles screened) and that its team is made almost entirely of trans women. The app adds age verification and a photo approval step with a no-edit rule, which some reviewers say rejects photos as too modified.

  • Pick it if: you are a trans woman who wants men who are serious enough to pay, or a man who wants a site where dating a trans woman is the whole point.
  • The catch: for men it is the most expensive option on this page, and it does not serve trans men or non-binary people.

8. Bindr: best label-free option

Bindr never asks for your sexual orientation: you choose who you want to see, trans people included. Its pricing page says the free plan is “free forever, no card required” and covers a profile, swiping (with hourly limits, higher if you selfie-verify), messaging mutual matches, the feed, selfie verification, and block and report. Gold costs $8.95 a month and Platinum $17.95, both renewing until you cancel; Platinum Lifetime is $79.99 one time. In my Bindr review the main issue was the small user base outside big US cities.

  • Pick it if: you are bi, pan or queer and want trans-inclusive dating without picking a box.
  • The catch: few members in many areas.

Apps or websites? Apps (Taimi, HER, Lex, Bindr) have the bigger, more active crowds. The trans-specific websites (Transgenderdate, TG Personals) are smaller but every member is there for the same reason. Most people do best with one big app and one trans-specific site. Free in name only: sites that charge to talk

Many sites ranking for “free trans dating” are free to download but charge to message. That is not a scam, but it is not what most people mean by free.

  • Zoosk: its own trans dating page says the Basic plan is free to see members near you, and that private messaging needs Premium. See my Zoosk review.
  • Translr: free to download, but its App Store listing sells VIP “full access” at $14.99 for 1 month, $29.99 for 3 or $49.99 for 6, plus coins, and does not list what is free. My Translr review rates it 2.5 because of its opaque operator and recurring scam complaints.
  • Tser: some lists still call it Transdr. Its App Store listing says it is free to download, sells memberships at $12.99 for 1 month, $26.99 for 3 and $45.99 for 6, and does not say which features are free.
  • Fiorry: a trans-focused app whose free version is thin; my Fiorry review covers its paid plans and its fake-profile problem.

What it costs if you do pay

If a free tier is not enough, here is the one-month price on each app that publishes one. Longer plans cost less per month everywhere, but only commit once you have seen real, active people near you.

Bar chart of one-month prices: Bindr Gold $8.95, Tser $12.99, Translr VIP $14.99, HER $14.99, My Transgender Date $29.90 for men
US prices on each App Store listing and Bindr’s pricing page, checked October 2026. My Transgender Date is free for trans women.

Two rules apply to all of them. First, subscriptions renew automatically: Tser’s listing, for example, says you must turn auto-renew off at least 24 hours before the period ends, and that you cannot cancel during an active period. Second, deleting the app does not cancel anything. Cancel in your iPhone’s Settings under your name, then Subscriptions, or in Google Play under Payments and subscriptions, then delete the account inside the app.

Safety on trans dating sites

Trans users deal with the usual dating app risks plus two of their own: chasers who see trans people as a fetish, and the risk of being outed. Taimi’s own chat page names chasers as a problem it tries to keep out. These steps help on every site above:

  • Prefer verified profiles. HER, Bindr, Taimi, Transgenderdate and My Transgender Date all describe some photo or profile check. TG Personals describes none.
  • Video call before you meet. It is the fastest way to confirm a person is real and is who they say they are.
  • Meet in public and tell a friend. Share where you are going and who with, and check in when you arrive.
  • Protect your privacy if you are not out. Leave your last name, workplace and neighborhood off your profile, and use photos you have not posted on social media.
  • Screen early. A simple “did you read my profile?” in the first message saves time, and anyone who opens with questions about your body is someone to block.

Romance scams are common on niche dating apps. The FTC’s page What To Know About Romance Scams lists the patterns: they move you off the app fast, they can never meet in person, and once you trust them they ask for money through gift cards, wire transfers, payment apps or crypto. Its rule is the one to remember: never send money or gifts to someone you have not met in person. Report scammers to the app and at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. My guide to online dating scams covers the scripts in detail, and my list of the safest dating apps compares verification tools.

Your profile: pronouns, disclosure and dating goals

  • Say what you want. A relationship, something casual, or friends: the right site depends on it, and so do the right matches.
  • Add your name and pronouns. OkCupid, HER and Taimi all have profile fields for them, and how a match uses them tells you a lot.
  • Disclose on your terms. On a trans-specific site, being trans is the starting point. On a mainstream app, putting it in your profile filters out the wrong people early. Share details of your transition only if and when you want to.
  • Show more than your gender. Hobbies, work and humor make conversations happen. For help writing it, see my guide to good dating app bios.

If you are cis and want to date trans people

Most of these sites welcome you, with exceptions: Lex and HER are not for cis men, and My Transgender Date charges men. A few basics go a long way. A trans woman is a woman and a trans man is a man, so your sexuality does not change because your date is trans. Lead with the person, not their body or their transition, use the words and pronouns they use, and ask before you assume. If you would not hold their hand in public, they will notice, and so will everyone you message.

How many trans people are there to meet?

Some pages in the results still quote an older figure of 1.6 million trans people aged 13 and over. The most recent estimate from the Williams Institute at UCLA, How Many Adults and Youth Identify as Transgender in the United States? (August 2025), puts it at over 2.1 million US adults, or 0.8% of adults. That is why a big inclusive app plus a dedicated trans site beats either one alone: the pool on any single platform is small, especially outside big cities.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best free app for transgender dating?

For most people, OkCupid, because matching and messaging are free and it offers over 60 gender identities and orientations. Trans people who want a dedicated space should also try Transgenderdate, where verified trans members get VIP free, or Lex for T4T dating without cis men.

Is there a female only dating app?

HER is built for queer women, trans women and men, non-binary and genderqueer people, and is not for cis straight men. Lex is a similar queer and trans space that keeps cis straight men out. Both are free to use for the core features.

Are there any free dating sites for men who want to meet trans women?

Yes. OkCupid lets everyone match and message free, TG Personals is 100% free for all members and funded by ads, and Bindr lets you message mutual matches free. My Transgender Date is free for trans women only: men pay $29.90 a month to chat.

Where can I meet trans women?

Trans-specific sites like My Transgender Date, Transgenderdate and TG Personals are where dating a trans woman is the point. On mainstream apps, OkCupid lets you filter by gender identity. Local LGBTQ+ events listed on apps like Taimi and HER are another option.

What pronouns do transgender people use?

Whatever pronouns each person tells you: many trans women use she/her, many trans men use he/him, and many non-binary people use they/them, but it varies. Most apps on this list have a pronoun field on the profile, so check it and use what the person uses.

What percentage of men are attracted to trans women?

There is no reliable national figure from a primary source, so be wary of any page that quotes one. What is measured is the trans population itself: the Williams Institute estimated in August 2025 that over 2.1 million US adults, 0.8%, identify as transgender.
