Lex Review

If it's not clear by now, I have a hard time with labels and I change my mind constantly about EVERYTHING. I'm still figuring out who the heck I am, and sometimes that includes figuring out who I like and where I fall in the gender spectrum. As I was venting to my friend, they suggested I try out the Lex app!

What is Lex app and who is it for?

Lex is a queer-owned and operated dating app for members of the LGBTQ+ community that launched in 2019. It's since changed from its original hookup-style format and now focuses on dating and friendship with photos. It's VC-backed including by the Bumble Fund.

The community it serves includes those who identify as queer, two-spirit, lesbian, bisexual, trans, non-binary, and intersex. Who isn't Lex for? Cisgender men and cis straight couples.

How to use the Lex app?

The Lex app is really easy to use. Once signed up, you're in the main feed where you can post, comment, or react to others' posts. It's not a picture-focused dating app — you get to know people based on what's in their hearts and not on their faces.

Is the Lex App legit to use?

Right at the jump, Lex screams legit. The first step in signup was agreeing to community guidelines based on treating others kindly. Created by those in the LGBTQ+ community gives this app an A+ for legitimacy.

The tl;dr on Lex

It's laid out to look like old personal ads from the newspapers, so you're left laughing at cool posts rather than getting carpal tunnel from swiping!

Posts vs. photos: Posts are pretty much the only way someone can see who you are. You can say what you're looking for or post a missed connection.

What is a Lexmoji? You can stay anonymous with a Lexmoji instead of a real photo!

What is a missed connection: Did you see someone you liked IRL but were too scared to let them know? Lex gives you another chance!

Does Lex have an app?

Yes! Both Android and iOS. There is a website but you can't log in — you can only find info about the app.

What's the sign up process like?

Extremely simple and quick! Agree to community guidelines, add phone number for verification, enter email, name, username, pronouns, DOB, photo, and location. Then you're in the main feed!

Is Lex free to use?

This is the most FREE I've felt with any app. I have access to everything! The only paid subscription is Lexplore — $4.99/month or $2.99/week — which lets you create and view posts from anywhere.

What sets Lex apart?

• No real payment tier except Lexplore.
• Layout like old newspaper personals — nostalgic and unique.
• Pictures aren't a focal point.

Final thoughts for my Lex App review

I absolutely loved this app! This was the first app where I could do everything without a paid subscription. I really liked how it wasn't pic heavy and instead focused on what others were saying. It felt more interesting than just swiping or looking at faces all day, and reminded me of a social network. I'm gonna stick around reading all the posts!
