Adam4Adam Review 2026: Legit or Waste of Money?
Adam4Adam is a legit, long-running gay dating site and app, and it is one of the few where the free version really does the job: you can browse, filter, message and send photos without paying. VIP (from $9.99 a month, less on longer plans) is only worth it if you hate ads, want to browse invisibly or want to keep old chats. The catch is quality, not cost: there is no profile verification, and reports of bots and scam profiles go back years.
What is the Adam4Adam dating site, and who runs it?
Adam4Adam (often shortened to A4A) is a site and app for gay, bi and curious men, run by A4A Network Inc. Its help center says it was created in 2003 and has had over 10 million members since then, which makes it one of the oldest names in gay online dating, older than the phone-first grid apps most people compare it to, like Grindr.
It runs in three places: the desktop site at adam4adam.com, a mobile website, and the app (called Adam4Adam Radar in its store descriptions) on iPhone and Android. The website allows more than the app: Apple and Google forbid nudity in apps, so the app version of your profile uses a separate, "G-rated" photo, and app profiles are reviewed by support before they go live.
Who it is for (and who should skip it)
The Adam4Adam dating site calls itself a place to meet men "for friendship, dating and fun", and the forum and Reddit threads that rank for it lean toward the last part: most posters talk about it as a hookup site with a wide, very mixed crowd, more than as a place to find a boyfriend. Its own help center pitches the mix: older and younger men, bears, twinks, and men of every background.
- Good fit: men who want a large free grid without paying, travelers (you can browse other cities and post trips), and people who prefer a full desktop site to an app.
- Poor fit: anyone who needs verified profiles, anyone who wants a dating-first app with prompts and slow conversations, and anyone outside the US who lives in a country that blocks it (the help center names China, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates).
- Not for: under-18s. It is 18+ on the website, on the App Store and on Google Play.
How Adam4Adam works
There is no compatibility quiz and no algorithm deciding who you see. You land on photo grids sorted by distance and narrow them with filters (the homepage advertises 27 free filters: age, ethnicity, body type, height and more; the app listing says "over 20").
- Grids: Near Me, New Members, Featured Members (paying VIPs), Popular (most smiles last month) and Visitors (men traveling to your city).
- Messaging: unlimited messages and photos for everyone, plus "smiles" (a one-tap hello), saved phrases, location sharing and private photos you unlock per person.
- Match: a swipe-style section. Free members can go through 100 profiles per 24 hours; VIP lifts the cap and shows who liked you.
- Extras: stories, a follow-and-like wall, group chats (3 free, 10 with VIP), video and audio calls, and Plan-a-Trip, which lists you in the Visitors grid of a city before you arrive.
Is Adam4Adam free? What you get without paying
Yes, and more genuinely than most. The help center says the regular membership gives access to most features and that "you will never be restricted from doing something" on the site. Messaging is unlimited and free. What VIP adds is comfort, not access:
| Feature | Free | VIP |
|---|---|---|
| Browse grids, use all filters | Yes | Yes |
| Send and receive messages and photos | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Conversation history | Deleted after 10 days with no messages | Kept, up to 200 saved conversations |
| Profile photos | 6 | 10 |
| Match section | 100 profiles per 24 hours | Unlimited, see who liked you |
| Group chats you can create | 3 | 10 |
| Video / audio call minutes | 10 / 20 | 50 / 100 |
| Ads and in-app promo messages | Yes | Can be switched off |
| Invisible browsing, Featured grid, priority support | No | Yes |

The row that matters most is the first one nobody mentions: on a free account, a conversation that goes quiet for 10 days is deleted entirely. If you chat slowly, screenshot or swap numbers once you trust someone, or that thread is gone. Two more free-tier annoyances come from user reviews: on the App Store, a reviewer complained that turning off notification emails required a paid plan (the help center confirms that stopping promotional messages in the app needs VIP), and on Google Play, a 2026 reviewer said the app has so many pop-ups and ads that the website is the better way in. Another Google Play reviewer reports hitting a 250-block limit on a free account; the help center only says VIP gets "unlimited" blocks.
Adam4Adam VIP prices in 2026
Adam4Adam does not publish its website prices without a login, so the reliable public numbers are the ones in the App Store listing. Its purchase list shows ten prices with no plan lengths; the description gives the lengths, so the table matches the two.
| Plan | Price | Cost per month | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| VIP, 7 days | $4.00 a week ($3.99 in the purchase list) | about $17 if it keeps renewing weekly | The most expensive way to pay |
| VIP, 1 month | $9.99 | $9.99 | Cheapest way to try it |
| VIP, 3 months | $24.99 | $8.33 | |
| VIP, 6 months | $44.99 | $7.50 | |
| VIP, 1 year | $77.99 in the description, $79.99 in the purchase list | $6.50 to $6.67 | Check the price on the payment screen |
| PRO, 1 month | $29.99 | $29.99 | Only for members advertising a paid service |
| PRO, term not stated | $74.99 | not published |
Prices checked October 2026 on the US App Store. The Google Play listing says VIP "starts at $4.00 USD/week" and shows in-app items from $0.99 to $239.99 without saying what the top item is. The App Store list also has "100 Coins" for $0.99 and an "unlimited" item for $14.99 that the listing does not explain.
Video and audio calls have their own packs: the help center (last updated January 2024) lists $10 for 250 video and 250 audio minutes, $15 for 500 of each, and $50 for unlimited calls. If you pay on the website, the charge shows as "SEGPAY.COM@A4A Network" on your card statement, which is worth knowing before you spot it and think you were scammed.
PRO is not a premium dating tier. It is for members who advertise a paid service such as personal training or photography, and the help center states that advertising sex for money is illegal and banned, PRO or not.
What the numbers really say
Adam4Adam's own copy contradicts itself, so read its big claims carefully:
- "10 million users": the same help center article says "over 10 million members since its creation in 2003" and, a few lines later, "10 million active users". The first is a lifetime sign-up count; nothing public supports 10 million active users.
- "15 years in the dating industry": the app descriptions still say 15 years, for a site its own help center dates to 2003. That copy has not been updated in years.
- What is measurable: Google Play shows 1M+ downloads and 22.4K reviews with an update on October 5, 2026; the App Store shows 49K ratings and roughly monthly app updates through 2025 and 2026. That is a real, maintained app with a sizable but not giant user base.
Fake profiles, bots and complaints
On the App Store, Adam4Adam has 4.7 stars from 49K ratings; on Google Play, 4.3 stars from 22.4K reviews, with 15,885 five-star and 2,314 one-star reviews (October 2026). Those averages are good. The complaints underneath them are consistent:
- Bots and scammers: an App Store review titled "Full of bots and scammers" describes vague, off-topic replies, early questions about your job, matches who live far away and pressure to move the chat to another app. A thread on an adult forum ranking for this search (2019 to 2020) describes a flood of fake profiles showing thousands of miles away.
- Ads and pop-ups: the most common 2026 complaint on Google Play.
- Glitches: login "network error" loops and long-standing bugs, in reviews on both stores.
- Content rules: some users find the app's moderation strict (photos without a shirt flagged as nudity, profile text censored on the app). That is Apple's and Google's rules at work, not a sign of a scam.
Adam4Adam is not a pay-to-chat trap: you never need to pay to reply, so fake profiles are not there to sell you messages. They are there for the usual scams, which is why the safety section below matters more than the price.
Safety and verification on Adam4Adam
This is the weakest part, and it is spelled out in Adam4Adam's own documents:
- No screening: the User Agreement says the company does not screen its members, check their backgrounds or verify what they say.
- No routine background checks, ID only when flagged: its Colorado Online Dating Safety Policy says accounts are suspended on credible reports and that it asks for government ID when age, impersonation or fraud is in doubt. There is no photo or selfie verification badge to look for.
- Reporting and blocking: on a profile, use Report This User and pick Impersonation (fake photos) or Spam/Solicitation. Blocking is anonymous and stops that account from messaging you or showing up in your grids. You can also email support@adam4adam.com, which handles appeals too.
- Health Specialist profiles: profiles marked with a red cross belong to outreach workers and Disease Intervention Specialists employed by health departments or community organizations. You can chat with them free about testing and sexual health; few dating apps do this.
- Privacy: the App Store privacy label says location and browsing history may be used to track you across other companies' apps and sites.
Because nothing is verified, verify it yourself. Adam4Adam's safety tips and the FTC say the same things: never send money or gift cards to someone you met online, be wary of anyone who cannot meet, lives far away or pushes you off the app fast (the FTC's romance scam guide lists these exact patterns), ask for a short video call before meeting, meet first in a public place, get there on your own, keep a clear head and tell a friend where you are going. If someone threatens to share your photos unless you pay, do not pay: report the profile and keep the messages.
Pros and cons
Pros
- The free tier is real: unlimited messages, photos and filters.
- Full desktop website, not just an app.
- Cheap VIP: $9.99 for a month, about $6.50 a month on a year.
- Travel tools (browse other cities, Plan-a-Trip).
- Broad, mixed-age, diverse user base; free sexual-health specialists in chat.
Cons
- No profile verification and no screening, by the company's own terms.
- Recurring reports of bots and scam profiles.
- Free chats vanish after 10 quiet days.
- Heavy ads in the free app, and turning off promo messages in the app needs VIP.
- Prices and user numbers that disagree between its own pages.
How to cancel VIP and delete your account
Where you paid decides where you cancel. Deleting your profile is a separate step, so cancel the subscription first.

- Paid on the website: log in, open the VIP ACCESS page, untick the auto-rebill box near the Upgrade button and confirm (Adam4Adam's steps).
- Paid in the iPhone app: cancel in your Apple account's Subscriptions (Apple's steps). Deleting the app does not cancel it.
- Paid in the Android app: cancel in the Play Store under Payments & subscriptions (Google's steps). The listing says no cancellation is allowed during an active period, so expect VIP to run until it ends rather than a refund.
- Delete the profile: on the website, My Account, then Delete Account at the bottom; in the app, your profile, Edit, the gear icon, then Delete Account. Adam4Adam's help center says this is irreversible, though you can sign up again with the same email.
Both stores renew the plan automatically within 24 hours before the period ends, so cancel at least a day early.
Adam4Adam alternatives
If the bots or the hookup focus put you off, these are the options with a live review here, plus the obvious rival:
- Grindr: the location-grid app most men compare Adam4Adam with. Choose by where your area is active.
- Taimi: an LGBTQ+ social and dating app with video calls and stories, more community-minded, app only.
- MenNation: a gay site with video profiles, chat rooms and webcams, closest to Adam4Adam's old-school, desktop feel.
- OkCupid and Hinge: if you want dating rather than hookups, with much more profile depth.

How I rate it
My 3 out of 5 is based on public pricing, features, safety tools, app store reputation and value, not on hands-on use. Value for money 4 (the free tier is broad and VIP is cheap), safety and verification 2.5 (no screening or verification, though reporting, blocking and health specialists exist), evidence of an active user base 3 (1M+ Android downloads, tens of thousands of recent ratings and monthly updates, but inflated user claims and years of bot reports), features for its audience 4 (grids, filters, travel, calls, web and app), transparency 2.5 (website prices behind a login, conflicting prices and claims, paid opt-out of in-app promos). Average 3.2, rounded to 3.
Frequently asked questions
Is Adam4Adam free?
Yes. Signing up, browsing, using the filters and sending unlimited messages and photos are free on the website and the app. VIP adds comfort features like no ads, invisible browsing and keeping conversations, which free accounts lose after 10 days without messages.
Is Adam4Adam legit or full of bots?
It is a legit site, running since 2003 and maintained with regular app updates. But it does not verify or screen members, and App Store reviews and forum threads report bots and scam profiles. Ask for a short video call before meeting and never send money.
How much does Adam4Adam VIP cost?
On the US App Store in October 2026, VIP costs $4.00 a week, $9.99 for a month, $24.99 for 3 months, $44.99 for 6 months and $77.99 to $79.99 for a year. Website prices are only shown after you log in.
How do I cancel Adam4Adam VIP?
Cancel where you paid. On the website, open the VIP ACCESS page and untick auto-rebill; on iPhone, cancel in your Apple subscriptions; on Android, cancel in the Play Store subscriptions. VIP stays active until the paid period ends.
How do I delete my Adam4Adam account?
On the website, go to My Account and choose Delete Account at the bottom. In the app, open your profile, tap Edit, then the gear icon, then Delete Account. Deletion is permanent, so cancel any subscription first.
Is Adam4Adam for dating or hookups?
Both are allowed, but most users and forum threads describe it as hookup-leaning. If you want a relationship-first app, OkCupid or Hinge suit that better.
