Chispa Review 2026: Legit or Waste of Money?

Chispa, the dating site and app for Latino and Latina singles, is legit: it is run by Affinity Apps, a Match Group company, and it is worth a free try if you want to meet people who share your culture. You can match and chat without paying. Pay only if you see real people near you first, because a common complaint in Google Play reviews is that the app keeps showing profiles 100 miles or more away.

My verdict: a real, busy app with solid safety tools (4.5 stars from 375K App Store ratings, 5M+ Google Play downloads, Face Check video selfies). Good for bicultural Latino singles in or near a US city who want something serious. Skip the paid tiers until the free version shows you enough local matches, and pick a bigger app if you live somewhere rural.

What is Chispa, and who runs it?

Chispa calls itself “the #1 dating app made for Latinx”, a place to connect over “shared background, values and the bicultural (American – Latino) experience”, in the words of its own about page. It is mainly a phone app, for iPhone and Android, though its help center also mentions sign-in on chispa-app.com.

The publisher is Affinity Apps LLC, 8750 North Central Expressway in Dallas. The Chispa customer care page names Spencer Rascoff, Match Group’s CEO, as its legal representative, and the site footer reads “Match Group Americas, LLC”. Match Group’s 2025 annual report (Form 10-K) lists Chispa among its “Emerging” brands, next to BLK, Upward, Yuzu and The League. So it belongs to the same group as Tinder, Hinge and Match, which explains both its polished app and its paywall design.

One line in that 10-K is worth knowing before you pay for months in advance: Match Group says it expects revenue from these brands to decline “as we pivot the product experience away from a Swipe-based interface for our affinity-based brands such as BLK and Chispa”. In plain terms, the swipe app you download today is due to change. None of the pages ranking for Chispa mention this.

Who the Chispa dating app is for

Chispa is built for Latino and Latina singles, especially US-born or bicultural people who move between English and Spanish. The App Store listing offers English, Spanish, French and German. It suits you if:

    • you want a partner who shares your culture, family values or language;
    • you live in or near a metro area with a big Latino community, where the local pool is deep;
    • you are fine with a swipe-and-match app rather than long questionnaires.

Is Chispa for Latinos only? Nothing in its store listings or help center restricts who can join. But it is marketed to Latinos, and everyone on it expects that focus. If you are not Latino and only want to date Latinas or Latinos, a mainstream app with a wider pool may serve you better, and you should say clearly why you are there.

It is not for hookups (people who want casual dates will do better on the apps in my hookup dating sites guide), and it is not for anyone in a small town, where the distance complaints below hit hardest.

    How matching and messaging work

The app works like Tinder. You get a personalized stack of profiles every day, swipe right or tap the heart to like, swipe left or tap X to pass. When the like is mutual, you match. The help center is clear that you cannot message anyone before a mutual match; once matched, chatting is free.

    • Super Chispa (the help center now calls it a Super Like, a green star): it tells someone you liked them before they swipe on you and highlights your profile. The help center claims you are “2X more likely to match” with one. Sold in packs of 5, 25 and 60, or 5 a week with a subscription.
    • Boost: puts you in the top 6 results for 30 minutes. If more than 6 people are boosting, the app picks at random. Multipacks of 5 or 10 expire after 90 days and are non-refundable.
    • Rewind: undo an accidental pass (paid tiers).
    • Filters: age, distance and preferences. Several Google Play reviews from 2025 and 2026 say the distance setting is ignored, with profiles 100 to 200 miles away showing up anyway.

What changed in 2026: no more “friends” mode

If you read older reviews or look at the Google Play screenshots, you will see a “Social Only / Social + Dating” switch and talk of community chat rooms. That is out of date. Chispa’s App Updates article (updated October 2026) says it is removing the social tab and will “focus exclusively on dating”, with redesigned profiles. The group chat has not disappeared, it now lives on your profile edit page. Some members are still on the old version while the change rolls out.

    Is Chispa free?

Yes, the core is free: download, create a profile, upload photos, swipe, match and chat with your matches. Both store listings say “If you don’t choose to purchase a subscription, you can simply continue to use Chispa.” What free members do not get:

    • unlimited likes (Premium advertises “Like without Limits”, so free likes run out);
    • rewinds, the monthly boost and the weekly Super Chispas;
    • an ad-free app (Google Play flags “Contains ads”);
    • the list of people who already liked you, which is Elite and above.

That last one matters. Google Play’s most-liked review complains about seeing a count of likes you cannot open without paying. It is the usual Match Group nudge, so decide in advance whether you want it.

    Chispa prices and plans

Chispa does not publish prices on its website: you see them in the app and on the store listings. The help center lists three tiers, Premium, Elite and Platinum, sold for 1 week, 1 month, 3 months or 6 months.

TierWhat you getPrice seen on the US App Store
FreeProfile, swiping, a limited number of likes, matching, chat with matches, ads$0
PremiumUnlimited likes, unlimited rewinds, 5 Super Likes a week, 1 Boost a month, no adsNot in Apple’s list; stores say subscriptions start at $9.99
ElitePremium plus see everyone who likes you, sort your likes (Your Type, Last Active, Nearby)1 week $14.99 or $19.99; 1 month $19.99, $24.99 or $29.99
PlatinumElite plus read receipts, Priority Likes (shown first for 48 hours), filters for recently active, new or subscribed users (one at a time)Not in Apple’s list
Boost (single)30 minutes in the top 6$2.99
    Super Chispa 5-pack5 Super Likes$2.99 or $4.99

Prices checked October 2026 on the App Store listing, which shows only its ten most-bought items, so the same plan appears at several prices (likely tests or older offers). The Google Play listing says “Current subscription starts at 9.99” and that 1-, 3- and 6-month packages are available. Review sites quote other numbers, none confirmed at the source. Trust the checkout screen in your app, and remember that a 1-week Elite plan at $14.99 costs far more per month than a longer plan.

If you pay at all, my advice is Premium for one month, not Elite for six. Use the free version for a week first: if your stack is full of people 150 miles away, no tier fixes that.

    Safety, privacy and verification

This is where Chispa beats many small niche apps, because it runs on Match Group’s safety tooling.

    • Face Check: a video selfie that checks you are a live person, matches your face to your photos, estimates your age and checks no other profile uses your likeness. Passing it gives a Photo Verified badge. The Face Check FAQ says it is rolling out by region and can be required; your face data is kept for the life of the account and deleted within 30 days of closing it.
    • Age checks: Chispa is 18+. It may scan a face photo to estimate age and ask for ID if you look under 18. In Texas it uses your App Store or Google Play age information, so adults blocked at sign-up should check those settings (age check article).
    • Safe Message Filters: automated tools scan messages for harmful or illegal behavior, and trained staff review flagged chats (help article). Worth knowing if you care about privacy, and one more reason to keep early chats inside the app.
    • Reporting and blocking: scroll to the bottom of a profile and tap Report; reports are anonymous. Blocking from the same spot deletes your chat and hides you from that person.

The privacy setting nobody mentions: Expanded Discovery. Chispa may ask for your consent to this, and when it is on, your Chispa profile can appear in discovery and search on other Match Group apps, and people there may be prompted to join Chispa to reach you. You can switch it off in Settings, Your Privacy Choices, Match Group Data Sharing, then toggle off Expanded Discovery & Interaction (help article). You choose “all Match Group apps” or “Chispa only”, nothing in between. Not everyone sees the setting: it depends on your region. If it is there and you would rather your profile stay on one app, check it on day one.

Chispa does not run background checks. Its own safety tips warn about the classic romance scam: someone who claims to be stuck abroad, will not video call, pushes to move to WhatsApp fast, then asks for money or crypto. The FTC lists the same signs in What To Know About Romance Scams. Never send money to someone you have not met, video chat before meeting, and meet in a public place.

Is Chispa legit? Ratings and complaints

Yes. It is a registered US company inside a listed group, it is updated every few weeks (version 12.17.1 shipped on October 2, 2026), and it has a large audience:

    • App Store: 4.5 out of 5 from 375K ratings (October 2026).
    • Google Play: 4.2 out of 5 from 115K reviews, 5M+ downloads, last updated September 30, 2026.

Some review sites repeat that Chispa has “100,000 members” and “30,000 weekly users”. Those figures cannot be checked and do not fit the store data: 375K App Store ratings alone means far more than 100,000 people have used it. Chispa itself does not publish a member count.

The complaints in the most helpful Google Play reviews repeat three themes:

    • Distance: the radius filter is ignored, and most profiles are 100 to 200 miles away.
    • Paywall: likes you cannot see without a subscription.
    • Login: accounts that cannot sign back in the day after sign-up. The help center has a Can’t Login article and a contact form.

Fake profiles exist on every dating app, and Chispa’s photo checks reduce but do not remove them. A Photo Verified badge is the best quick signal that the person matches their pictures.

How to sign up on the Chispa dating site or app

Download Chispa from the App Store (iOS 16 or later) or Google Play. The help center says you can sign up with Facebook, your Apple ID or a phone number; with a phone number you log in with a texted code, so there is no password to reset. Pick carefully: to switch to another number or login method later, you have to delete the account and start over. Your name and date of birth also cannot be edited after registering. Then add photos (from your phone, Facebook or a selfie), set your preferences, and complete Face Check if asked. You must be 18.

The help center describes Face Check on iOS, Android and chispa-app.com, so a web version exists in some regions, but the app is the main way to use Chispa.

    Pros and cons

    Pros

    • Built around Latino culture and bicultural life, in English and Spanish
    • Matching and chatting with matches are free
    • Big, active audience: 375K App Store ratings, 5M+ Android downloads
    • Match Group safety tools: Face Check, age checks, message filters, anonymous reports
    • Frequent updates and a detailed help center

    Cons

    • Users report the distance filter does not work, so rural members see few local people
    • Seeing who likes you is locked behind Elite
    • No prices on the website; App Store shows the same plan at different prices
    • Your profile can be shown on other Match Group apps if Expanded Discovery is on
    • The product is changing: friends mode removed, and Match Group plans to move away from swiping

How to cancel and delete your Chispa account

Subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel before the renewal date, and the stores charge the renewal within 24 hours before the period ends. After cancelling, you keep paid features until the expiry date, then the account turns free.

    1. iPhone: Settings, tap your Apple ID, Subscriptions, Chispa, Cancel Subscription. Or in the app: profile icon, gear icon, Manage Subscription.
    2. Android: open your subscriptions in Google Play, choose Chispa, tap Cancel subscription and follow the prompts (Google Play Help).
    3. Delete the account: profile icon, gear icon, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete (help article). This removes all your connections and cannot be undone.

Cancel first, then delete: deleting the account or the app does not stop a store subscription. If you only want a break, the “Show me on Chispa” toggle hides your profile without deleting it.

    Chispa alternatives

    • Hinge: the better pick if you want serious dating in a city and are open to a broader pool; you can still set ethnicity preferences.
    • OkCupid: lots of profile questions and filters, good for matching on values and language.
    • Bumble: big audience; women message first.
    • Match and eHarmony: paid, older and more marriage-minded audiences.
    • Upward: Chispa’s sister app from Affinity Apps, for Christian singles, with the same tiers and safety tools.

    How I rate it

I give Chispa 3.5 out of 5. That rating is based on public pricing, features, safety tools, app store reputation and value, not on hands-on use. Value for money: 3 (matching and chat are free, but see-who-likes-you needs Elite and short plans are expensive). Safety and verification: 4 (Face Check, age checks, message filters and anonymous reports, but no background checks). Evidence of an active user base: 4 (375K App Store ratings, 5M+ Android downloads, updates every few weeks), held back by distance complaints. Features for its audience: 3 (a real cultural focus and Spanish support, but unreliable distance filters and a product in transition). Transparency: 3 (cancel and delete are well documented, but prices are not published outside the stores and Expanded Discovery can show your profile on other Match Group apps).

    Frequently asked questions

Is Chispa a legitimate dating app?

Yes. Chispa is published by Affinity Apps LLC in Dallas, part of Match Group, the company behind Tinder and Hinge. It has 4.5 stars from 375K App Store ratings and 5M+ Google Play downloads, and it offers Face Check video selfie verification.

    How much does Chispa cost?

Chispa is free to join, match and chat. The store listings say subscriptions start at $9.99, and the US App Store shows Elite at $14.99 to $19.99 a week or $19.99 to $29.99 a month (checked October 2026). Boosts cost $2.99 and a 5-pack of Super Chispas $2.99 to $4.99.

Can you use Chispa for free?

Yes. You can create a profile, swipe, match and message your matches without paying, with ads and a limited number of likes. Unlimited likes, rewinds, boosts and seeing who likes you need a paid tier.

    Is Chispa for Latinos only?

Chispa is built and marketed for Latino and Latina singles, but nothing in its store listings or help center restricts who can join. If you are not Latino, be clear about why you are there, or use a larger mainstream app with ethnicity preferences.

    Is Chispa a hookup app?

No. Chispa markets itself to Latino singles looking for dates and meaningful connections, not casual sex. If you want something casual, a dedicated hookup app is a better fit, and the same safety rules apply: meet in public and never send money.

How do I cancel my Chispa subscription?

Cancel through the store you paid with: on iPhone go to Settings, your Apple ID, Subscriptions, Chispa; on Android open your Google Play subscriptions and tap Cancel subscription. Deleting the app or your account does not stop the subscription, and you keep paid features until the period ends.
