Veggly Review 2026: Legit or Waste of Money?
The Veggly dating app is legit: it is a real dating app for vegans and vegetarians, with 1M+ downloads on Google Play and a free core where liking, matching and chatting cost nothing. Paying for Avocado Club is only worth it if you live in a big city with plenty of veg singles nearby, because the most common complaints are a thin user base and fake profiles. Start free, check who is actually near you, and only then decide.
What is Veggly, and who runs it?
Veggly is a dating app built only for vegans and vegetarians. Its Google Play listing pitches it as a way to “find, match and chat with vegetarians and vegans near you”, and it welcomes different veg styles (raw vegan, keto vegetarian and so on) and gender identities. You can use it on iPhone, Android and a beta web version.
The seller on the App Store is Similar Souls do Brasil Eireli, a Brazilian company. Founder Alex Felipelli told The Vegan Review in 2020 that he built it after his divorce, when he found it hard to meet a single vegan even in São Paulo. Veggly’s terms of use require members to be 18 or older and put US disputes under Texas law with an arbitration clause.
Who the Veggly dating app is for (and who should skip it)
- Good fit: vegans and vegetarians who want a partner who shares the ethics, not just the menu, and who live in or near a large city.
- Good fit: veg people new to the lifestyle who want to meet like-minded friends. The founder told The Vegan Review that many members join just to make friends.
- Think twice: anyone in a small town or rural area. One member on the Vegan Forum described the small-town problem well: even a local veg meetup might draw five people.
- Skip it: flexitarians or anyone happy to date meat-eaters. A big mainstream app gives you far more people, and you can still say you are vegan in your profile.
How matching and messaging work
Veggly uses a double opt-in, which its FAQ explains plainly: you like someone, they like you back, and you get a “VegMatch” that opens the chat. Nobody can message you out of the blue for free, which cuts down on spam.
According to Veggly’s user manual:
- The home feed is sorted by who was online most recently by default. You can switch to sorting by distance or by new users. The FAQ calls this a “transparent algorithm” with “no hidden algorithms”.
- Filters cover age, distance and diet or lifestyle.
- Profiles take up to 9 photos and a field for how long ago you changed your diet, which works as a built-in icebreaker.
- Chat supports text and audio messages with your matches, without limits.
- Super Likes send the person an email and a notification so they know you liked them. Compliments let you leave a message on someone’s photo before you match.
- Hide, exclude and block are three separate tools: hiding just removes someone from your feed, excluding stops you from seeing or matching each other, and blocking also stops them contacting you.
A practical tip from the manual: opening the app often pushes your profile up the feed, because the default order is “last online”. That also means inactive profiles sink, which is good for you as a browser.
Is Veggly free? Plans and prices
Yes, the core is free. Veggly’s FAQ says you can sign up, like, VegMatch and chat for free. You pay for extras through two things: Avocado Club, an auto-renewing subscription, and Carrots, the in-app currency.
The FAQ and manual list what Avocado Club adds: seeing who liked you before you match, more visibility for your profile, no ads, unlimited Teleportation (moving your location to any city), 3 Carrots a month, and read receipts in chat. Carrots cost 1 per Super Like, 1 per Compliment and 5 per VegBoost.
Veggly does not publish prices on its website. These are the in-app purchases shown on the US App Store:
| Purchase | US App Store price | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Avocado Club | $24.99 | Subscription; the listing gives no length, the FAQ says plans run from 1 month to 1 year |
| Avocado Club 3 Months | $44.99 | About $15 a month |
| Avocado Club 12 Months | $99.99 | About $8.33 a month |
| Veggly Premium | $17.99 | Older plan name, not explained on Veggly’s own pages |
| Veggly Premium 3 Months | $39.99 | Older plan name, not explained on Veggly’s own pages |
| Veggly Plus / Veggly Unique | $17.99 / $19.99 | Not explained on Veggly’s own pages |
| Carrots | 1 for $2.99, 10 for $7.99, 50 for $24.99 | Super Likes, Compliments, VegBoosts |
Prices checked October 2026 on the US App Store listing. Google Play shows prices only inside the app; they can differ by store and country.
The cheapest way in is free. If you want to see who already liked you, the 3-month Avocado Club is the one I would pick: it costs less than two single months and is short enough that you are not locked in if your area turns out to be quiet. A single Carrot at $2.99 is poor value; the 10-pack works out to about 80 cents each.
Is anyone on it? The user base
Veggly is small next to mainstream apps, but it is not a ghost app. Google Play shows 1M+ downloads and the app was updated on October 7, 2026; the App Store version history shows a release the same week, with a refreshed chat and multi-photo uploads.
Older public figures give a sense of scale. The founder told The Vegan Review in 2020 that the app had over 200,000 users, and a 2021 announcement reported by vegconomist put it at more than 300,000 users in 181 countries, with the US its largest country at 47,823 users. Veggly has not published a newer user count that I could find, so treat these as dated.
The real limit is local density. The top search results for “veggly dating app” are mostly Reddit threads, and one of them is titled “Is Veggly seriously our only dating app option?”. The frustration is less about the app and more about how few veg singles live in any one area. Veggly’s own Play Store blurb quotes a couple saying “the vegan dating pool is very small”.
Safety, verification and fake profiles
Veggly gives you more safety tools than most small niche apps, and it is honest that fake profiles exist.
- Selfie validation: Veggly’s announcement of AI-powered account validation says you tap “Validate” on your profile tab and follow the prompts, and verified profiles get a badge. A Veggly team reply under that post says validation is handled in-house. Ask any match without a badge to validate before you share more.
- Fraud detection: the FAQ says Veggly launched a “fraud detection system 2.0” and that its scammer detection deletes accounts, which is why a chat can suddenly vanish.
- Reporting: use the three-dot menu at the top right of a profile to report, then block. The manual says Veggly bans users daily based on reports.
- Scam warnings: Veggly’s safety tips say never send money, even for an “emergency”, keep the chat in the app until you trust the person, beware anyone who asks for your number or email right away, and never send intimate photos because of sextortion. For first dates: meet in public, tell a friend, get yourself there and back.
The FTC’s guide to romance scams lists the same red flags: pushing you off the app fast, excuses for never meeting, and requests for money by wire, gift card or crypto. Its rule is simple: never send money to someone you have not met in person.
Fake profiles and complaints: what users say
The app stores and review sites tell two different stories. On the US App Store, Veggly has 4.5 stars from 5.8K ratings, and on Google Play 4.4 stars from 21.7K reviews (October 2026). On Trustpilot, it has a 1.8 TrustScore from just 20 reviews, 75% of them one star.
The Trustpilot complaints repeat a few themes: scam and fake profiles, very few new members in less populated areas (one reviewer saw no new users within 500 km for a week), charges after cancelling, and reports that went unanswered. Twenty reviews is a tiny sample next to tens of thousands of store ratings, and unhappy users are the ones who go looking for review sites. Still, the billing complaints match a real trap in how subscriptions work, covered below.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Liking, matching and chatting are free.
- Everyone shares at least one core value with you.
- Double opt-in chat keeps unsolicited messages out.
- Transparent feed order and filters by diet, age and distance.
- Selfie validation with a badge, plus report, block and exclude tools.
- Actively updated, with good app store ratings.
Cons
- Small pool, especially outside big cities.
- Fake and scam profiles still get through, by Veggly’s own admission.
- No prices on the website, and the App Store lists confusing plan names.
- Subscriptions auto-renew and are not cancelled by deleting the app.
- Carrots are non-refundable.
How to cancel Avocado Club and delete your account
This is the part people get wrong. Veggly’s terms say deleting your account or the app does not cancel your subscription: it keeps renewing for the same period at the same price until you cancel it with Apple or Google.
- Cancel the subscription first. On iPhone, Apple’s steps are: Settings, tap your name, Subscriptions, pick Veggly, Cancel Subscription. On Android, Google’s steps are: open Subscriptions in Google Play, pick Veggly, tap Cancel subscription. Google notes that uninstalling an app does not cancel its subscription. Veggly’s FAQ says you keep the perks until the end of the paid period.
- Then delete or pause your account. In the app, go to Settings, then Privacy, then Manage Account. You will be offered Hibernate: your profile disappears and notifications stop, but your likes and data stay for when you come back. Decline it to delete for good.
- If you signed in with Apple or Facebook, the FAQ warns that logging in again after deleting creates a brand new account.
Refunds: the terms say charges are generally non-refundable, with a possible exception if you ask within 14 days. Residents of Arizona, California, Connecticut, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, New York, North Carolina, Ohio and Wisconsin can cancel without penalty before midnight of the third business day after subscribing. Carrots are final. Apple handles refunds for App Store purchases: Apple’s refund page sends you to reportaproblem.apple.com, then Request a refund; for Google Play purchases, the terms send you to Veggly’s support.
Veggly alternatives
If Veggly is quiet where you live, the practical move is a bigger app where you state your diet up front. These are mainstream apps I have reviewed:
- OkCupid (4/5 in my review): a mainstream app with detailed profiles, where you can put your diet and values up front.
- Hinge (4.5/5): built for relationships, so a line about your plant-based life is a natural conversation starter.
- Bumble (4/5): a big pool in most US cities, if you need volume.
For more relationship-focused options, see my serious dating apps page. The App Store also suggests Grazer, another vegan dating app, alongside Veggly; I have not reviewed it yet.
How I rate it
I give Veggly 3.5 out of 5. This rating is based on public pricing, features, safety tools, app store reputation and value, not on hands-on use. Value for money: 4 (the core is free, Avocado Club is mid-priced). Safety and verification: 3.5 (selfie validation and real tools, but scam profiles still slip through). Evidence of an active user base: 3.5 (1M+ downloads and fresh updates, but thin local pools). Features for its audience: 4 (diet filters, Teleportation, a veg-only community). Transparency: 3 (honest FAQ on auto-renewal, but no prices on the site and unexplained plan names in the store).
Frequently asked questions
Is Veggly a good dating app?
It is a legit, actively updated app for vegans and vegetarians, rated 4.5 on the US App Store and 4.4 on Google Play (October 2026). It works best in big cities; in smaller places the pool of veg singles is thin, and some users report scam profiles. I rate it 3.5 out of 5.
How much does Veggly cost?
Veggly is free to sign up, like, match and chat. On the US App Store, Avocado Club is listed at $24.99, $44.99 for 3 months and $99.99 for 12 months, and Carrots cost $2.99 for 1, $7.99 for 10 or $24.99 for 50 (October 2026). Avocado Club renews automatically until you cancel it with Apple or Google.
Can you see who liked you on Veggly?
Only with Avocado Club. Veggly's FAQ says subscribers can see who liked them before the VegMatch. Free members still get a match and a chat when someone they liked likes them back.
Is Veggly free?
The core is free: signing up, liking, getting a VegMatch and chatting. You pay only for extras such as seeing who liked you, no ads, Teleportation and read receipts (Avocado Club), or Super Likes, Compliments and VegBoosts (Carrots).
What is the best dating app for vegetarians?
Veggly is the best-known app built only for vegans and vegetarians, so it is the first one to try if you want a veg partner. If few people use it near you, a bigger mainstream app like Hinge or OkCupid, with your diet stated in your profile, gives you more people to meet.
Does Veggly have fake profiles?
Some, by its own admission. Veggly's FAQ says it runs a fraud detection system and bans reported scammers daily, and it offers selfie validation with a badge. Ask matches to validate, keep the chat in the app, and never send money.
