Loosid Review 2026: Legit or Waste of Money?
The Loosid sober dating app is legit: a real Florida company, founded in 2018 by a CEO in recovery, with a dating app built only for sober and sober-curious singles. It is free to download and you can match and chat without paying, but the free tier caps your daily likes and passes and hides who liked you. Worth a free try if sobriety is a dealbreaker for you; I would not buy a long plan until you have seen how many real people live near you.
What Loosid is and who runs it
Loosid is run by Loosid App LLC, a company with an address in Sunny Isles Beach, Florida, according to its fulfillment policy. The Loosid FAQ says it was co-founded by MJ Gottlieb and Zhanna Basina, and that Gottlieb, the CEO, is in recovery himself. Loosid's own blog puts his sobriety date at March 21, 2012 and the launch in 2018.
It started as a sober social network and added dating later. Today there are two products: a community app (sobriety tracker, chat groups, hotlines, alcohol-free guides) and a separate dating app. The FAQ, written in February 2025, counted over 310,000 members, roughly 160,000 in the community app and 150,000 in the dating app. A newer sober dating page claims 400,000+ members. Those are company numbers and include inactive accounts, so read them as "all-time sign-ups", not "people online near you".
The fulfillment policy also says the service is only available in the United States and Canada.
Who the Loosid sober dating app is for
Loosid says its members include people in recovery from alcohol or drugs, people who quit drinking for health or personal reasons, the sober-curious, and anyone who simply wants an alcohol-free partner. You do not need a set amount of sober time to join. The App Store listing rates it 18+.
- Good fit: you are sober or alcohol-free and want that settled before the first message; you live in or near a big US metro; you would also use the community side for friends and support.
- Poor fit: you live somewhere rural (reviewers report a handful of people within 15 miles, then profiles hundreds of miles away); you want a large pool fast; you are in very early recovery and dating could get in the way. Loosid itself suggests talking to a sponsor or therapist about timing.
How matching and messaging work
According to the Google Play listing for Loosid: Sober Dating & Meetups, the dating app lets you:
- match with sober singles near you, then chat with your matches;
- stand out with a Flirt or a SuperLike;
- see "secret admirers" (people who liked you) and bookmark profiles;
- answer Sober Questions on your profile, such as "My idea of a perfect Sober Saturday", "The biggest gift sobriety has given to me is" and "My favorite mocktail is".
It is a classic like-or-pass feed: a match happens when two people like each other, then chat opens. Developer replies on the App Store add a few details the listing leaves out. Passed profiles come back: likes and rejections reset every 5 days so you can reconsider people, which several reviewers find tiresome. Search radius and age range used to expand on their own when you ran out of people; the developer says you can now stop that under "Dating Preferences". And you must always log in the same way (Google, Apple or email): signing in with a different method creates a second, empty profile.
Free vs paid: what Loosid costs
Downloading and creating a profile is free on both stores. Paid plans are sold only inside the app, and Loosid does not publish a price page on its website. These are the in-app purchases listed on the App Store page for Loosid Sober Dating App:
| In-app purchase (App Store name) | Price | Per month |
|---|---|---|
| Dating Pro Weekly | $9.99 | about $43 |
| Dating Pro 1 Month | $29.99 (also listed at $23.99) | $29.99 or $23.99 |
| Dating Pro 3 Months | $49.99 | about $16.66 |
| Dating Pro 1 Year | $119.99 | about $10 |
| Dating Premium / Dating PREMIUM | $19.99, $29.99, $59.99, $79.99 | length not shown |
| Loosid Premium Dating | $59.99 | length not shown |
Prices checked October 2026 on the US App Store. The per-month column is my arithmetic. The App Store does not say how long the Premium items last or which features each tier adds; the app shows that at checkout.
On Android, Google Play gives only a range: $9.99 to $199.99 per item for the dating app. The community app on Google Play lists $0.99 to $139.99, and the FAQ prices its premium subscription, which includes the SAM AI mentor, at $20 a month, with scholarships for people who cannot afford it.
The cheapest way in is the weekly plan: $9.99 for a week of Dating Pro is enough to see what paying unlocks and judge the local pool before you commit. Per month it is the most expensive option, so cancel it before it renews if you do not want to keep going. If you know you will stay, the 3-month plan costs less per month than the monthly one.
What "free" really means on Loosid
Loosid's messaging and its app are not saying the same thing. The FAQ says "Loosid is free to use", and the blog goes further: "The only premium feature is SAM." That is true of the community app, but not of the dating app, which sells the Dating Pro and Premium plans above.
The developer's own replies to App Store reviews fill in what the free dating tier actually allows:
- Free: creating a profile, liking, passing, matching and chatting with matches. A like you give is only seen by the other person if your profile shows up in their feed and they like you back.
- Paid: seeing who liked you. Free users see those likes blurred.
- Capped on free: the number of likes and even passes per day. In a 2026 reply, the developer calls these limits "intentional guardrails" against automated accounts. That contradicts a 2024 reply that promised free members "unlimited likes", so the limits look recent.
One reviewer in September 2026 says the free trial lasts three days and does not include unlimited likes. I could not confirm the trial at the source, so treat it as a user report.
Safety and verification
Read Loosid's terms and conditions before trusting the "everyone here is sober" pitch. They say: "We do not, and have no obligation to, verify the identity of or otherwise screen our users for any reason." Nothing checks that a member is actually sober either. You are taking everyone's word for it.
There is a photo verification step in the app: a Google Play reviewer describes taking a verification photo, and the developer replied that verification "can take longer if instructions aren't followed". The developer also says it added a VPN detector and that its team reviews profiles and bans dishonest users; when a banned account goes, its chats disappear from your inbox. The claim that this "reduced these fake profiles by 99%" is the company's, with no data behind it.
The scam patterns reviewers report on Loosid are textbook ones: fake profiles pushing work-from-home jobs and crypto, and a match who eventually asked for money. They match the warning signs on the FTC's page on romance scams: someone who wants to move off the app quickly, cannot meet in person, and asks for money, gift cards or crypto. On a recovery app, add one more: anyone who uses your story or your sobriety to pressure you.
- Verify your own photo and favor matches who did the same.
- Video chat before meeting, and meet somewhere public, daytime, alcohol-free.
- Never send money, and report the profile in the app when someone asks. The developer asks users to report suspicious profiles and to email support@loosidapp.com.
- If you are struggling, the community app has a crisis hotline and community-run support lines; in an emergency, call 911.
Fake profiles and complaints: what app store reviews say
As of October 2026, Loosid Sober Dating App has 4.4 out of 5 from 3.9K ratings on the US App Store. On Google Play, the dating app has 3.7 stars from 542 reviews and 100K+ downloads, while the community app has 4.7 stars from 1.26K reviews. The gap says a lot: people like the sober community more than the dating product.
The recurring complaints in recent written reviews:
- Bots and scammers. Several reviewers say most of their matches were fake or "AI chat"; one estimates 30 to 50% of profiles are not genuine.
- A small pool. Few people nearby, the same 75 profiles every few days, then matches across the country.
- Bugs. Photos that cannot be reordered or deleted, crashes, profiles and chats that vanish (the developer says these are banned accounts).
- Paywall pressure. Blurred likes, daily caps, upgrade prompts, and one reviewer who stopped getting any interest after canceling.
- No refund. A Play reviewer who bought a yearly plan and wanted out after a month was told no refunds.
The positive reviews mostly praise the idea: not having to explain why you do not drink, and first dates built around coffee or a hike instead of a bar. I did not open Trustpilot or the BBB for this review, so I am not quoting them.
Which Loosid app to download
On iPhone, search "Loosid Sober Dating App". On Android, there are two apps from Loosid App LLC: Loosid: Sober Dating & Meetups (the dating app, updated September 29, 2026) and Loosid: Sober Recovery Network (tracker, groups, hotlines, Recovery Voices, marketplace discounts). If you want to date, install the first one; both are linked from Loosid's website. If you want sober friends and support first, start with the second; the FAQ says many members use both. Skip third-party APK sites: the third-party APK download page that shows up in the search results now returns an error, and the official stores are the only place to get updates and manage a subscription.
The community side, briefly
Loosid's community app is the more polished half. Its Play listing and Loosid's features article describe a sobriety tracker and milestone counter, a daily sober tip and gratitude reminder, city and topic chat groups, Recovery Voices audio stories, Boozeless Guides to alcohol-free venues and events, and a marketplace of member discounts. The Sobriety Help page lists six community-run hotlines, from "I feel like using" to "Weekend & holiday support". None of that is dating, but it is the reason some people stay on Loosid after they meet someone.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Everyone signed up for an alcohol-free dating app, so the sobriety conversation is done before you start.
- Free to match and chat; paid plans are optional.
- Sober Questions give you something real to open with.
- A sober community, tracker and hotlines one download away.
- Photo verification exists, and the company is visible: named founders, an address, a support email.
Cons
- Small local pools outside big cities, with distant profiles filling the gaps.
- Repeated reports of bots and scam profiles; terms say there is no screening.
- Daily caps on likes and passes, and likes hidden behind a paywall.
- Prices are not on the website, and the "only SAM is premium" line is misleading for the dating app.
- No refunds on subscriptions; buggy app according to many reviews.
How to cancel and delete your Loosid account
Deleting your account does not stop a subscription, and neither does uninstalling the app. Cancel first:
- iPhone: Settings, tap your name, Subscriptions, Loosid, Cancel Subscription (Apple's cancel guide).
- Android: Google Play, Payments & subscriptions, Subscriptions, Loosid, Cancel. Google's help page warns that uninstalling the app will not cancel it.
- Paid on the web through Stripe: the fulfillment policy says to use "Manage your Subscription", then "Cancel Subscription" in your dashboard.
Your plan stays active until the end of the period you paid for, and the fulfillment policy says subscriptions are non-refundable except for a billing error or an app that does not work "due to gross negligence". For App Store or Google Play purchases, any refund request goes through Apple or Google.
Then delete the account, following Loosid's deletion guide: tap Profile in the bottom bar, open Settings, scroll to Delete Account, and confirm. It is permanent and removes your data from Loosid's servers. If you created two profiles with different login methods, delete both.
Loosid alternatives
If Loosid is empty where you live, a mainstream app with a bigger pool and "sober" stated clearly in your profile is the practical backup.
- Hinge: prompt-based profiles make it easy to say you do not drink, and the pool is far larger.
- Bumble: a large pool, and you can lead with your lifestyle in your bio.
- Coffee Meets Bagel: fewer, curated matches, which suits a slower pace. Apple lists it among apps Loosid users also like.
- eHarmony: a compatibility-based site for people who want a long-term relationship, with a far bigger pool than any niche app.

How I rate it
I rate Loosid 2.5 out of 5. The rating is based on public pricing, features, safety tools, app store reputation and value, not on hands-on use: I read the App Store and Google Play listings and reviews, Loosid's FAQ, terms, fulfillment policy and help pages in October 2026. Scores: value for money 2.5 (free core, but capped, and pricey short plans), safety and verification 2.5 (photo verification, but no screening and many scam reports), evidence of an active user base 2.5 (150,000 dating members claimed in 2025, 100K+ Android downloads, thin local pools reported), features for its audience 4 (Sober Questions, community, tracker, hotlines), transparency 2 (no price page, misleading "free" claims, no refunds).
Frequently asked questions
Is Loosid a legit dating app?
Yes. Loosid is run by Loosid App LLC, a Florida company founded in 2018 by MJ Gottlieb, who is in recovery, and Zhanna Basina. It is a real sober dating app, but its terms say it does not screen members, and reviewers report bots and scam profiles, so verify matches before you meet.
Is Loosid free?
You can download Loosid, create a profile, match and chat for free. The dating app sells Dating Pro and Premium plans, from $9.99 a week to $119.99 a year on the US App Store (October 2026), and free users have daily caps on likes and passes and cannot see who liked them.
What is the best sober dating app?
Loosid is the best known app built only for sober and alcohol-free singles, and it adds a sober community with a tracker and hotlines. Its weakness is a small pool outside big cities, so many sober daters also keep a mainstream app like Hinge or Bumble with sobriety stated in their profile.
What is dry dating?
Dry dating means dating without alcohol: no drinks on dates, and often meeting for coffee, a walk or an activity instead of a bar. It is popular with people in recovery and with the sober-curious who want clearer first impressions.
What does 420 mean on a dating app?
420 is slang for cannabis, so a 420-friendly profile means the person uses or is fine with marijuana. If you are looking for someone fully sober, treat 420 in a profile as a mismatch.
How do I cancel Loosid?
Cancel through the store you paid with: on iPhone, Settings, your name, Subscriptions; on Android, the Google Play subscriptions page. Deleting your account or uninstalling the app does not cancel the plan, and Loosid's policy says subscriptions are non-refundable.
