ColombianCupid Review 2026: Real Profiles or Scam?
The ColombianCupid dating site is legit, not a scam: it is run by Cupid Media, a registered Australian company with a network of niche sites, and its app has 1M+ downloads on Google Play. But it carries the usual Cupid Media problems: fake profiles and money-askers mixed in with real members, and a free tier so tight that one side of every conversation has to pay, from $31.99 a month on the App Store. It is worth paying for only if you want a serious relationship with someone from Colombia and will do your own safety checks.
What is ColombianCupid, and who runs it?
ColombianCupid is a dating website with iPhone and Android apps for meeting singles from Colombia and Colombians living abroad. Its home page claims "over 2 million members" and says it belongs to the Cupid Media network of "over 30" niche dating sites. The contact page says it has been part of Cupid Media since 2004.
The company is named in the Terms of Use (last updated 28 September 2026): Cupid Media PTY LTD, registered in Queensland, Australia. The same company runs MexicanCupid, DominicanCupid, BrazilCupid and sister sites with their own reviews here, such as ThaiCupid and FilipinoCupid. Keep in mind that 2 million counts sign-ups over the years, not active users. Cupid Media does not publish an active-user number, so any "50,000 weekly users" figure you see elsewhere is a guess.
Who the ColombianCupid dating site is for (and who should skip it)
- Good fit: men and women in the US, Canada or Europe who want a serious relationship with someone from Colombia (Bogotá, Medellín, Cali, Cartagena are the cities the Google Play listing names) and who expect to travel to meet.
- Also a fit: Colombians and other Latino singles in the US who want to date within their culture. The site works in Spanish and English, and in many other languages.
- Who you will see: the public directory of US men on ColombianCupid showed 35 profiles in October 2026, aged 34 to 74, and 29 of the 33 who gave an age range were looking only for women younger than themselves. That matches the site's real audience: older American men and Colombian women.
- Poor fit: anyone who wants a local date this weekend, anyone who will not pay, and anyone who wants every profile checked before it goes live.
- Not for: anyone shopping for a "mail order bride". The terms say plainly that the service is not a marriage broker, mail order bride or matchmaking service, and the Community Guidelines ban profiles that ask for money, gifts, "sugar daddy" arrangements or dowries. Members must be 18 or older.
How matching and messaging work
There is no personality test. You sign up free (the Play listing says it takes under 30 seconds), add photos, and wait for approval: the help center says new profiles and photos are usually reviewed within 24 hours. Then you find people four ways:
- Search: filters for age, location, appearance, lifestyle, religion, education and more. The help center's membership table says the "exclusive" filters (location, lifestyle, ethnicity, dating intention) need Platinum or Diamond.
- Matches: daily suggestions built from your match preferences. Platinum and Diamond add mutual and reverse matching.
- Likes: tap the heart to show interest. It is free for everyone.
- Messages and Instant Messenger: written messages and live text chat. Message translation is a paid perk: Platinum and Diamond members can translate any message, and Gold and free members can only translate messages sent by Platinum and Diamond members, per the translation article. Google Play lists 19 languages.
One gap matters for safety: the help center says the Instant Messenger does not currently support audio or video. You cannot video-check a match inside ColombianCupid.
Is ColombianCupid free? What the free tier really allows
Joining, building a profile, browsing, searching and sending likes are free. Messaging is where the paywall bites, and the official rules are stricter than most reviews say:
- A free (Standard) member cannot read or reply to messages from other free members, only from paying ones, per the help center article "I'm a standard member and I cannot read messages".
- Free members can start only 3 new conversations per 24 hours; paid members can start up to 500, according to the daily limits article (updated July 2026).
- The free app shows ads: Google Play labels it "Contains ads", and paid plans remove third-party ads.
So two free members cannot talk to each other at all. In practice one of you has to pay, which is why the free tier works as a preview, not as a way to date.
ColombianCupid prices and plans
ColombianCupid shows its web prices only after you log in, and the help center says prices vary by country and currency. The clearest public price list is the App Store. Here are the US plans:
| Plan | 1 week | 1 month | 3 months | 12 months |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard (free) | $0 | $0 | $0 | $0 |
| Gold | $19.99 | $31.99 | $63.99 (about $21.33/month) | not listed in the US store |
| Platinum | $24.99 | $36.99 | $73.99 (about $24.66/month) | $189.99 (about $15.83/month) |
| Diamond | Not priced in the app stores (web only, behind login) | |||
Prices checked October 2026 on the App Store listing. The list has extra lines it does not explain: a second "Gold Membership (1 Month)" at $51.90 and two more "Platinum Membership (12 Months)" lines at $59.90 and $119.00, likely older or promotional offers. Check the plan name, length and total before you tap Buy. Other reviews quote web prices of $39.49 (Gold) and $46.99 (Platinum) for one month; I could not confirm those without an account, so treat them as possible, not certain.
On the website you can pay by credit or debit card, Google Pay, vouchers and some country-specific methods (payment methods). Every plan renews automatically for the same length unless you turn it off.
What each tier adds
- Gold: unlimited messaging with every member, Instant Messenger chat, no ads, a profile boost, the option to hide your profile and photos, virtual gifts and some free Coins.
- Platinum: everything in Gold, plus message translation, the exclusive search filters, mutual and reverse matching, and ranking above Gold and free members.
- Diamond: everything in Platinum, plus ranking above all members, priority placement in the inboxes you message, a Diamond icon and 24/7 premium support.
That list comes from the help center's benefit table and section 2.8 of the terms. Coins pay for virtual gifts, which cost 10 to 4,990 Coins each, and unused Coins expire 365 days after purchase.
The cheapest sensible way in
The weekly plans are the trap: Platinum at $24.99 a week comes to about $108 a month if it keeps renewing. If you want to try ColombianCupid, a 3-month Gold plan ($63.99) is the cheapest way to unlock messaging without a weekly renewal. If you do not speak Spanish, Platinum for 3 months ($73.99) costs $10 more and adds translation, which you will use with many Colombian members. Buy 12 months only once you know the site works for you.
Real profiles or scam? Ratings and complaints
ColombianCupid is not a scam company: you get the service you pay for, from a registered business with a public help center. The risk is scammers using the site. The ratings show that split (all checked October 2026):
- App Store: 4.6 stars from 9.8K ratings, version updated in October 2026.
- Google Play: 4.5 stars from 31.8K reviews, 1M+ downloads, updated October 9, 2026.
- Trustpilot: 1.6 out of 5 from 182 reviews (Trustpilot page), split between 40% five-star and 39% one-star. Trustpilot notes that the company has not replied to negative reviews.
The written complaints repeat the same themes: profiles that look fake or automated, many opening with the same few questions, matches who quickly ask to move to Telegram, hard-to-reach customer support, and the paywall showing up the moment someone writes to you. Google Play reviewers also say it is hard to hide people you are not interested in from your search results.
Cupid Media's side: the help center says a dedicated Fraud Prevention team works on scams. The terms ban asking for money or financial details, crypto and investment pitches, and sextortion, and they allow Cupid Media to ask for ID, liveness or biometric checks when a profile looks fake. The guidelines also say dormant accounts are deleted from time to time, which helps a little with ghost profiles.
Safety and verification on ColombianCupid
- ID verification is optional. You can upload a color copy of a valid government photo ID. Once approved, a "Verified" status shows on your profile, and the help center says the document is destroyed after processing (verification article). In the public US directory, 12 of the 35 profiles listed carried the badge in October 2026.
- No routine background checks. The terms say the company "does not routinely undertake background checks, verify information provided or conduct criminal screenings of its users".
- Report and block: a Report Abuse button (the ! icon) on photos, messages and profiles, and in the Instant Messenger's "More" menu (how to report). Add screenshots and details when you report.
- The site's own warnings: the Dating Safety page tells you to keep chats on the platform while you get to know someone, and to watch for people who say they are "stuck" somewhere and need money to get home, or who avoid phone and video calls.
- Privacy: the App Store privacy label says purchases, location, contact info, identifiers and sensitive info may be linked to you, and usage data may be used to track you across other apps.
How to tell a real profile from a scammer
With no in-app video, the checking is up to you. The FTC's guide to romance scams lists the patterns that match the complaints above: a rush to move the chat to another app, talk of true love fast, reasons you can never meet, and requests for money for medical bills, a plane ticket or a visa, paid by wire, gift cards, money apps or crypto. My checklist:
- Look for the Verified badge and several everyday photos, not only studio or model shots.
- Run a reverse image search on the photos. A face that shows up under other names is fake.
- Ask for a live video call on a video app within a week or two. Someone real will say yes. Someone whose camera is always broken is not real.
- Stay on ColombianCupid until you have seen that person on video. Pressure to move to Telegram or WhatsApp on day one is a red flag.
- Never send money, gift cards, phone credit or crypto, whatever the story. The terms forbid members from asking, so a request is a reason to report.
- Report it with Report Abuse, then at ReportFraud.ftc.gov if you lost money.
- When you travel to meet, meet in public, tell someone your plans, and keep your own transport, hotel and return ticket.
What other ColombianCupid reviews get wrong
The two big third-party reviews that rank for this search contradict the official pages on three points that matter:
- "There is no app." One review says Cupid Media has no app. Wrong: ColombianCupid is on the App Store and on Google Play, both updated in October 2026.
- "Live chat with camera." Another describes the Instant Messenger as chat "with camera and text". The help center says it does not support audio or video.
- "2 weeks for a partial refund." The official refund policy says there are "no partial refunds for unused time". The refund rules are below.
Pros and cons
Pros
- A long-running site built only for Colombian dating, run by an established company
- Detailed profiles and strong search filters
- Message translation on Platinum and Diamond, useful if you do not speak Spanish
- Optional government ID verification with a visible badge, used by a fair share of members
- Clear help articles on billing, cancellation and deletion
Cons
- Free members cannot message each other, and can start only 3 new conversations a day
- Steep for one month ($31.99 to $36.99 on the App Store), and weekly plans add up fast
- Many complaints about fake profiles and requests to move to Telegram
- No audio or video chat inside the app
- Narrow refund policy, and web prices hidden until you log in
How to cancel ColombianCupid and delete your account
Cancel where you paid, then switch off your profile. Deleting your profile does not stop an App Store or Google Play subscription, and the help center recommends changing auto-renewal at least 48 hours before your plan ends.

- Paid on the website: log in, click the gear icon, choose Billing, click the slider next to "Your membership auto-renewal is ON", then Confirm (cancellation guide).
- Paid in the iPhone app: Settings, your name, Subscriptions, ColombianCupid, Cancel Subscription.
- Paid in the Android app: Play Store, your profile picture, Payments and subscriptions, Subscriptions, ColombianCupid, Cancel.
- Delete or deactivate: open the member menu, choose Switch Off Profile, then Deactivate (hidden until you click "Reactivate Me") or Delete. Delete removes the profile for good after 30 days, and you can still come back within those 30 days (switch-off guide).
Refunds: when you can get your money back
The refund policy promises a full refund only if your account had technical problems, the site was down for too long, or you ask before you have contacted or been contacted by any member. There are no partial refunds for unused time, and other refunds are at Cupid Media's discretion. If you live in Arizona, California, Connecticut, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, New York, North Carolina, Ohio or Wisconsin, the terms give you 3 business days after subscribing to cancel for a refund, by a signed notice sent by registered or certified mail to Cupid Media in Australia. If you see a charge you did not make, the help center says Cupid Media refunds the full amount for fraudulent card use. Purchases made through Apple or Google go through their own refund processes.
ColombianCupid alternatives
- For a bigger Latin American pool: its sister site LatinAmericanCupid claims over 5 million members from Colombia, Mexico, Brazil, Peru and more, with the same rules and similar pricing.
- For international chat with a big pool: Dating.com or Badoo.
- For a serious relationship in the US: eHarmony.
- One to avoid: LatiDreams, a pay-per-message chat site that I rate far lower.

How I rate it
I give ColombianCupid 3 out of 5. That rating is based on public pricing, features, safety tools, app store reputation and value, not on hands-on use. Value for money: 3 (one month costs $31.99 to $36.99, a 3-month plan about $21 to $25 a month, and the free tier barely lets you talk). Safety and verification: 3 (optional ID badge used by a fair share of members, a fraud team and clear report tools, but no routine checks, no in-app video and many scam complaints). Evidence of an active user base: 3.5 (1M+ Google Play downloads, about 41K ratings across both stores, updates in October 2026). Features for its audience: 3.5 (translation, detailed filters and matching suit cross-border dating). Transparency: 2.5 (auto-renewal, cancellation and deletion are well documented, but web prices sit behind a login, the App Store list is confusing and refunds are narrow).
Frequently asked questions
Is ColombianCupid a legitimate dating site?
Yes. ColombianCupid is run by Cupid Media PTY LTD, a registered Australian company that operates a network of niche dating sites, and it has 1M+ downloads on Google Play. The service is real, but scammers do use it, so verify anyone with a video call and never send money.
Is ColombianCupid free?
Joining, browsing, searching and sending likes are free. Free members cannot read or reply to messages from other free members and can start only 3 new conversations a day, so in practice one person has to pay. Paid plans start at $31.99 for a month of Gold on the US App Store (October 2026).
Does ColombianCupid have an app?
Yes. The ColombianCupid app is free on the App Store (4.6 stars from 9.8K ratings) and on Google Play (4.5 stars from 31.8K reviews), both updated in October 2026. You log in with the same account as on the website.
What is the best free dating site in Colombia?
No Colombia-focused site lets two free members chat freely: ColombianCupid and its sister sites keep messaging between free members behind a paywall. You can still build a profile, search and send likes on ColombianCupid for free and pay only once someone you like replies.
How can I get my Colombian girlfriend to come to the USA?
If you are a US citizen and plan to marry, USCIS handles the K-1 fiancé(e) visa through Form I-129F. You must have met in person at least once in the two years before filing and marry within 90 days of her arrival. Be wary of anyone you have not met who asks you to pay for a visa or ticket: the FTC lists that as a common romance scam.
How do I cancel ColombianCupid?
On the website, go to Settings, Billing and switch off auto-renewal, then confirm. If you paid in the app, cancel in your iPhone Settings or the Google Play Store. Do it at least 48 hours before renewal; deleting your profile does not stop the subscription.
