ThaiCupid Review 2026: Real Profiles or Scam?
ThaiCupid is a legit dating app, not a scam: it belongs to Cupid Media, an Australian company that runs 30+ niche dating sites, and the app has 1M+ downloads on Google Play. But the ThaiCupid dating app is crowded with fake profiles and people asking for money, and free members can barely talk to each other, so one side almost always pays: $35.99 to $40.99 for a month on the App Store. It is worth paying only if you want a serious relationship with someone in Thailand and will do your own checks.
What is ThaiCupid, and who runs it?
ThaiCupid is a website and app for meeting singles from Thailand. Its home page calls it the "Largest Thai Dating Site With Over 3 Million Members" and says it belongs to the Cupid Media network of "over 30" niche sites. The site is not consistent about its age: the home page says "Since 2002" and "For over 10 years", while the contact page says ThaiCupid has been part of Cupid Media "since 2004". The 3 million figure counts accounts ever created, not people active today, and Cupid Media does not publish an active-user number.
The Terms of Use (last updated 28 September 2026) name the operator: Cupid Media PTY LTD, registered in Queensland, Australia. The same company runs FilipinoCupid, UkraineDate and PinkCupid, among others. The iPhone app needs iOS 15.6 or later, the Android app is on Google Play, and you can also use the full website in a browser. For login, billing or account problems, the route is the help center's contact form; Google Play lists team@thaicupid.com as the support email.
Who the ThaiCupid dating app is for (and who should skip it)
- Good fit: men and women in the US, Europe or Australia who want a serious relationship with someone from Thailand (Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket, Chiang Mai and beyond) and who plan to travel to meet.
- Also a fit: Thais living abroad, and expats living in Thailand who want a bigger pool than local apps give them.
- Poor fit: anyone who will not pay, anyone who wants a quick local date in the US, and anyone who expects every profile to be checked before it goes live.
- Not for: anyone shopping for a "mail order bride". The terms say ThaiCupid is not a marriage broker, mail order bride or matchmaking service, and the Community Guidelines ban "sugar daddy" and dowry profiles and any request for money or gifts. Members must be 18 or older; the App Store rates the app 18+.
How matching and messaging work
There is no swiping deck and no personality test. You sign up free (first name, gender, who you are looking for, age, email, password), add photos, and wait for the profile and photos to be approved, which the help center says usually takes 24 to 48 hours. Then you meet people four ways:
- Search: filters for age, location and profile details. The help center's membership table says the "exclusive" search filters (location, lifestyle, ethnicity, dating intention) need Platinum or Diamond.
- Matches: a list built from your match preferences. Platinum and Diamond add mutual and reverse matching.
- Likes: a heart that tells the person you are interested. You can like each member only once.
- Messages and Instant Messenger: written messages plus one-to-one live chat with members who are online. Platinum and Diamond members can translate any message; Gold and free members can translate only messages that come from Platinum or Diamond members, per the translation article. That matters on a site where many members write in Thai.
One missing feature matters for safety: the help center says the Instant Messenger does not support audio or video. You cannot video-check a match inside ThaiCupid.
Is ThaiCupid free? What the free tier really allows
Joining, building a profile, browsing, searching and sending likes are free. Messaging is where the limits hit, and they are tighter than the store listings suggest:
- A free (Standard) member cannot read or reply to messages from other free members, only from paying members, according to the help center's membership article.
- Free members can start only 3 new conversations per 24 hours; paid members can start up to 500, per the daily limits article (updated July 2026).
- The free app shows ads: Google Play labels it "Contains ads", and every paid tier removes third-party ads.
So do you have to pay for ThaiCupid? In practice, yes. Two free members cannot hold a conversation, so one of you has to upgrade. The terms add a catch: once your plan ends, access to premium features, "including previously received messages", is suspended.
ThaiCupid prices and plans
ThaiCupid shows its web prices only after you log in, and the help center says prices vary by country and currency. The clearest public list is the App Store. These are the main US plans:
| Plan | 1 week | 1 month | 3 months | 12 months |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard (free) | $0 | $0 | $0 | $0 |
| Gold | $19.99 | $35.99 | $69.99 (about $23.33/month) | not on the US list |
| Platinum | $24.99 | $40.99 | $79.99 (about $26.66/month) | $179.99 (about $15/month) |
| Diamond | Not priced publicly on the App Store | |||
Prices checked October 2026 on the US App Store listing. That list also carries lines it does not explain: a second "Gold Membership (1 Month)" at $51.90 and two more "Platinum Membership (12 months)" at $59.90 and $116.99, likely promotional or older offers. Other App Store storefronts that charge in US dollars, such as Panama's, list Gold for 12 months at $154.99. On Android, the Google Play listing shows only a range: $19.99 to $214.99 per item. Read the plan name, length and total before you confirm.
What each tier adds
- Gold: unlimited messaging with all members, Instant Messenger chat, no ads, a profile boost, the option to hide your profile and photos, and virtual gifts.
- Platinum: everything in Gold, plus message translation, the advanced search filters, mutual and reverse matching, and ranking above Gold and free members.
- Diamond: everything in Platinum, plus ranking above all members, priority placement in the inboxes you message, a Diamond icon on your profile and premium support.
That breakdown comes from the help center's benefit table and section 2.8 of the terms. The table promises "up to 1400 Coins" with eligible plans. Coins pay for virtual gifts, which cost 10 to 4,990 Coins each, and unused Coins expire 365 days after purchase.
The cheapest sensible way in
Skip the weekly plans: Platinum at $24.99 a week comes to about $108 a month if you let it renew, and Gold weekly to about $87. To try ThaiCupid, a 3-month Gold plan ($69.99) is the cheapest way to unlock messaging for a real stretch. If you will be writing to members whose English is basic, 3-month Platinum ($79.99) adds translation for $10 more, and that is the one I would pick. Commit to 12 months ($179.99 for Platinum) only once you know the site is working for you.
Real profiles or scam? Complaints and ratings
ThaiCupid is not a scam business: you get the service you pay for, from a registered company with a public help center. The trouble is scammers using it. The ratings show the split (all checked October 2026):
- App Store (US): 4.6 stars from 9.7K ratings.
- Google Play: 4.2 stars from 66.1K reviews, 1M+ downloads, on the store since May 2017 and updated October 9, 2026.
- Trustpilot: 1.5 out of 5 from 292 reviews on its ThaiCupid page, split between 42% one-star and 38% five-star. Trustpilot notes the company has not replied to negative reviews.
The written reviews on all three repeat the same complaints: profiles that look fake or AI-generated, a wave of messages right after sign-up that reviewers suspect are bots, matches who ask for money or pitch crypto or online-business "investments", pushes to move the chat to WhatsApp, email or another dating site, and paid upgrades that did not activate. A Google Play reviewer in September 2026 wrote there was no way to request a refund in the app and turned to Google Play instead; Cupid Media replied by pointing to the Contact Us form. An older App Store review complains that an account was locked and a passport requested after one day; the developer answered that the terms allow identity checks.
Cupid Media's side: the help center says a dedicated Fraud Prevention team works on scams, and section 4 of the terms bans asking for money or bank details, promoting crypto or investment schemes, and running AI chatbots or undisclosed AI profiles. If you paid and your membership did not upgrade, the help center's payment article says non-instant payment methods can take 2 to 5 business days and lists what to send support (receipt, Google Play order number or Apple invoice).
Safety and verification on ThaiCupid
- ID verification is optional. You can upload a color copy of a valid government photo ID (driver's license or passport). The help center says it checks name, gender, date of birth and photo, and destroys the document after processing (verification article). Since it is optional, many profiles have no badge.
- No routine background checks. The terms say Cupid Media "does not routinely undertake background checks, verify information provided or conduct criminal screenings". Profile and photo approval only checks that content follows the rules.
- Report and block: a Report Abuse button (the ! icon) on photos, messages and profiles, and in the Instant Messenger's "More" menu (how to report). Add screenshots and as much detail as you can.
- The site's own advice: the Dating Safety page says to keep conversations on the platform, warns about people who claim to be "stuck" overseas and need money, and calls someone who avoids phone or video calls a red flag.
- Privacy: the App Store privacy label says purchases, coarse location, contact info, identifiers and sensitive info may be linked to you, and usage data may be used to track you. Inactive accounts are deleted from time to time, per the Community Guidelines.
How to tell a real profile from a scammer
With no video inside the app, the checking is on you. The FTC's romance scam guide lists the same signs ThaiCupid's reviewers describe: a quick push to talk somewhere else, reasons they can never meet, and requests for money for medical bills, travel, visas or crypto, by wire, gift cards, money apps or cryptocurrency. My checklist:
- Look for the verified badge and several everyday photos, not only glossy studio shots.
- Run a reverse image search on the photos. A face that appears under other names is a fake.
- Ask for a live video call on a video app early on. A real person will agree; a camera that is always "broken" is your answer.
- Never send money, gift cards, phone top-ups or crypto, whatever the story. A request breaks ThaiCupid's rules, so report it.
- Be wary of invitations to another site or app by email. That is a pattern App Store reviewers describe.
- Report it with Report Abuse, and at ReportFraud.ftc.gov if you lost money.
- When you travel to meet, meet in a public place, tell someone your plans, and keep control of your own transport and return ticket.
ThaiCupid vs ThaiFriendly: which is better?
ThaiFriendly is the other big name in Thai dating, and the main difference is the price of talking. ThaiFriendly's home page says it is "free to send and receive messages" without matching first, with an optional paid upgrade for extra features, and it claims over 1.89 million members. It also says plainly that it does not vet members in person. ThaiCupid, by contrast, makes free members almost unable to talk to each other.
- Pick ThaiFriendly if you want to test Thai dating without paying, or you are already in Thailand and want to chat now.
- Pick ThaiCupid if you want built-in translation, optional ID verification, a big help center and a company with clear billing and refund rules, and you are willing to pay for them.
Neither one checks every member, so the scam checklist above applies on both. I have not reviewed ThaiFriendly in full, so treat this as a comparison of what each site publishes.
Pros and cons
Pros
- A long-running site built only for Thai dating, run by an established company
- Message translation on Platinum and Diamond, useful across a language gap
- Optional government ID verification
- Clear help center articles on billing, cancellation, refunds and deletion
- Website plus iPhone and Android apps, with active updates in October 2026
Cons
- Free members cannot message each other and can start only 3 new conversations a day
- $35.99 to $40.99 for one month on the App Store, and weekly plans cost even more
- Many complaints about fake profiles, bots, money requests and off-platform invitations
- No audio or video chat inside the app
- Narrow refund policy, and web prices hidden until you log in
How to cancel ThaiCupid and delete your account
Cancel where you paid, then switch off your profile. Deleting your profile does not stop an App Store or Google Play subscription, and the help center recommends changing auto-renewal at least 48 hours before your plan ends.

- Paid on the website: log in, click the gear icon, choose Billing, click the slider next to "Your membership auto-renewal is ON", then Confirm (auto-renewal guide).
- Paid in the iPhone app: Settings, your name, Subscriptions, ThaiCupid, Cancel Subscription.
- Paid in the Android app: Play Store, your profile picture, Payments & subscriptions, Subscriptions, ThaiCupid, Cancel.
- Deactivate or delete: open the member menu, choose Switch Off Profile, then pick Deactivate (hidden until you click "Reactivate Me") or Delete (permanent after 30 days, and you can still reactivate within those 30 days), per the switch-off guide.
Refunds: when you can get your money back
The refund policy promises a full refund only if your account had technical problems, the site was down, or you ask before you have contacted or been contacted by any member. There are no partial refunds for unused time, and anything else is at Cupid Media's discretion. If you live in Arizona, California, Connecticut, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, New York, North Carolina, Ohio or Wisconsin, section 16.3 of the terms gives you 3 business days to cancel for a refund, by a signed, dated notice sent by registered or certified mail to Cupid Media in Bundall, Australia. A charge you do not recognize will usually show as "ThaiCupid.com Southport AU". App Store and Google Play purchases go through Apple's or Google's own refund process.
ThaiCupid alternatives
For other options with full reviews on this site:
- The same Cupid Media setup for the Philippines: FilipinoCupid, with the same tiers and the same free-tier limits.
- International chat with a large pool: Dating.com or Badoo, which has a usable free tier.
- Mainstream global apps: Tinder and Bumble, worth a look if you are already in Thailand or traveling soon.
- A serious relationship at home in the US: eHarmony.

How I rate it
I give ThaiCupid 3 out of 5. That rating is based on public pricing, features, safety tools, app store reputation and value, not on hands-on use. Value for money: 2.5 (one month costs $35.99 to $40.99, and free members can hardly talk). Safety and verification: 3 (optional ID check, a fraud team and clear report tools, but no routine checks, no in-app video and many scam complaints). Evidence of an active user base: 3.5 (1M+ Google Play downloads, about 76K ratings across both stores, app updates in October 2026). Features for its audience: 3.5 (translation and detailed search suit cross-border dating). Transparency: 2.5 (auto-renewal, cancellation and deletion are well documented, but web prices sit behind a login, the App Store list is confusing and refunds are narrow).
Frequently asked questions
Is ThaiCupid legit or a scam?
ThaiCupid is a legitimate site run by Cupid Media PTY LTD, a registered Australian company, with 1M+ downloads on Google Play. Scammers and fake profiles do use it, though, so verify anyone before you get attached and never send money.
Do you have to pay for ThaiCupid?
Signing up, browsing, searching and sending likes are free. Free members cannot read or reply to messages from other free members and can start only 3 new conversations a day, so in practice one person has to pay. A month costs $35.99 (Gold) or $40.99 (Platinum) on the US App Store, checked October 2026.
Which app is better, ThaiFriendly or ThaiCupid?
ThaiFriendly lets free members send and receive messages, so it is the better place to try Thai dating without paying. ThaiCupid costs more but adds message translation, optional ID verification and a detailed help center. Neither vets every member, so the same scam precautions apply on both.
What is the best free Thai dating site?
Among the big Thai dating sites, ThaiFriendly is the one whose home page says free members can message without matching first. ThaiCupid's free tier is too limited to hold a conversation unless the other person pays. Mainstream apps such as Tinder and Badoo also have free tiers.
What dating apps do people use in Thailand?
Thai-focused sites such as ThaiCupid and ThaiFriendly are the best known for meeting Thai singles from abroad. Global apps such as Tinder and Bumble are also used, which suits you better if you are already in Thailand.
How do I cancel my ThaiCupid subscription?
If you paid on the website, go to Settings, Billing and switch off auto-renewal, at least 48 hours before renewal. If you paid in the app, cancel in your iPhone's Subscriptions settings or in Google Play under Payments & subscriptions. Deleting your profile alone does not stop an app store subscription.
