FilipinoCupid Review 2026: Real Profiles or Scam?
FilipinoCupid is a legit dating app, not a scam: it is run by Cupid Media, an Australian company with 30+ niche sites, and it has 5M+ downloads on Google Play. But the FilipinoCupid dating app does have plenty of fake profiles and money-askers, and the free tier is so limited that one side of a conversation almost always has to pay: $39.99 to $45.99 for a month on the App Store. Pay only if you are serious about a long-distance relationship with someone in the Philippines and will take your own safety steps.
What is FilipinoCupid, and who runs it?
FilipinoCupid is a dating website and app for meeting singles from the Philippines. Its home page calls it the "#1 Filipino dating site", claims over 5.5 million members and says it is part of the Cupid Media network, which operates "over 30" niche dating sites. Two small inconsistencies on the site itself: the home page says "Since 2001", while the contact page says it has been part of Cupid Media "since 2004". Neither changes much for you, but it tells you to read the marketing loosely.
The company is named in the Terms of Use (last updated 28 September 2026): Cupid Media PTY LTD, registered in Queensland, Australia. The same company runs sister sites such as ThaiCupid, JapanCupid and PinkCupid, which I cover in my PinkCupid review. The 5.5 million figure counts accounts, not active users, and Cupid Media does not publish how many are active.
Who the FilipinoCupid dating app is for (and who should skip it)
- Good fit: men and women in the US, Canada, Australia or Europe who want a serious, long-term relationship with someone from the Philippines, and who are ready to travel to meet. The public member directory for the US is mostly men in their 30s to 60s looking for women.
- Also a fit: Filipinos living abroad who want to date within their culture.
- Poor fit: anyone who wants a quick local date, anyone who will not pay (free messaging is very limited), and anyone who wants every profile checked before it goes live.
- Not for: anyone looking for a "mail order bride". The terms say plainly that FilipinoCupid is not a marriage broker, mail order bride or matchmaking service, and that residents of the Philippines must not use it in breach of local laws on marriage-matching. Members must be 18 or older.
How matching and messaging work
There is no personality test. You create a free profile (name, gender, who you are looking for, age, email and password), add photos, and then find people in four ways:
- Search: filters for age, location, religion, education, English ability, body type, smoking and drinking habits and more. The help center's membership table says the "exclusive" search features (location, lifestyle, ethnicity, dating intention) need Platinum or Diamond.
- Matches: a list generated from your match preferences. Paid Platinum and Diamond members also get mutual and reverse matching.
- Likes: tap the heart to show interest; the person is notified and can like you back. You can like each member only once.
- Messages and Instant Messenger: written messages and live chat. Translation is built in for Platinum and Diamond members; Gold and Standard members can translate messages they receive from Platinum and Diamond members, per the translation article.
One gap matters for safety: the help center says the Instant Messenger does not support audio or video. So you cannot video-check a match inside FilipinoCupid. More on that below.
Is FilipinoCupid free? What the free tier really allows
Joining, building a profile, browsing, searching and sending likes are free. Messaging is where the paywall bites, and the rules are stricter than most reviews say:
- A free (Standard) member cannot read or reply to messages from other free members. You can only read and reply to messages from paying members, per the help center.
- Free members can start only 3 new conversations per 24 hours; paid members can start up to 500, according to the daily limits article (updated July 2026).
- The free app shows ads. Google Play labels it "Contains ads", and paid plans remove third-party ads.
Because most members on both sides start free, two free members usually cannot talk at all. In practice, one person has to pay. That is why the free tier feels like a teaser.
FilipinoCupid prices and plans
FilipinoCupid hides its web prices behind a login, and its terms say prices can differ by country. The clearest public list is the App Store. Here are the main US plans:
| Plan | 1 week | 1 month | 3 months | 12 months |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard (free) | $0 | $0 | $0 | $0 |
| Gold | $24.99 | $39.99 | $77.99 (about $26/month) | not listed |
| Platinum | $29.99 | $45.99 | $89.99 (about $30/month) | $219.99 (about $18.33/month) |
| Diamond | Not priced publicly on the App Store or Google Play | |||
Prices checked October 2026 on the App Store listing. The list also has extra lines that it does not explain: a second "Gold Membership (1 Month)" at $59.90 and two more "Platinum Membership (12 Months)" lines at $71.90 and $142.99, likely older or promotional offers. Check the plan name, length and total before you tap Buy. On Android, the Google Play listing only shows a range of $23.37 to $264.99 per item.
What each tier adds
- Gold: unlimited messaging with every member, instant messenger chat, no ads, a profile boost, the option to hide your profile and photos, and virtual gifts.
- Platinum: everything in Gold, plus message translation, advanced search, mutual and reverse matching, and ranking above Gold and free members. The terms say Platinum and Diamond come with free Coins (the help center's table shows Coins for Gold too, so do not count on them with Gold).
- Diamond: everything in Platinum, plus ranking above all members, priority placement in inboxes you message, a Diamond badge and premium support.
That list comes from the help center's benefit table and section 2.8 of the terms. Coins pay for virtual gifts, which cost 10 to 4,990 Coins each, and unused Coins expire 365 days after purchase.
The cheapest sensible way in
The weekly plans are the trap: Platinum at $29.99 a week works out to about $130 a month if you keep renewing. If you want to try it, a 3-month Gold plan ($77.99) is the lowest-commitment option that unlocks messaging. If you want translation, which matters with members whose English is basic, Platinum 3 months ($89.99) costs only $12 more. Pay for 12 months only once you know the site works for you.
Real profiles or scam? Complaints and ratings
FilipinoCupid is not a scam company: you get the service you pay for, and Cupid Media is a registered business with a public help center. The problem is scammers using the site. The ratings show the split (all checked October 2026):
- App Store: 4.6 stars from 20K ratings.
- Google Play: 4.3 stars from 153K reviews, 5M+ downloads, updated October 2, 2026.
- Trustpilot: 1.7 out of 5 from 1,012 reviews (Trustpilot page), with reviews split between 49% five-star and 23% one-star. Trustpilot notes that the company has not replied to negative reviews.
The written complaints repeat the same themes across the App Store, Google Play and Trustpilot: profiles that look fake or AI-generated, matches who ask for gift cards, phone credit or help with bills, pushes to move the chat to WhatsApp or Telegram, accounts suspended without a clear reason, and billing or cancellation trouble. A Google Play reviewer in July 2026 said their account was terminated before they had even finished setting it up; Cupid Media replied by pointing them to the Contact Us page.
Cupid Media's side: the help center says a dedicated Fraud Prevention team works on scams, and the terms ban asking for money, crypto and investment pitches, AI chatbots, undisclosed AI profiles and scam networks. Several suspension notices in the help center explain that accounts were terminated for asking for money or for doubts about whether the profile was genuine. Those terminations are the anti-scam system at work, and sometimes it catches honest members too.
Safety and verification on FilipinoCupid
- ID verification is optional. You can upload a color copy of a valid government photo ID (driver's license, passport). Once it is approved, a verified status shows on your profile. The help center says the document is destroyed after processing (verification article). In the public US directory, 4 of the first 35 profiles listed carried the badge in October 2026.
- No routine background checks. The terms say Cupid Media "does not routinely undertake background checks, verify information provided or conduct criminal screenings". It may ask for ID or liveness checks when something looks off.
- Report and block: a Report Abuse button (the ! icon) on photos, messages, profiles and the Instant Messenger (how to report). Attach screenshots when you can.
- Safety advice from the site: the Dating Safety page tells you to keep chats on the platform, and warns about people who claim to be "stuck" overseas and need money to get home.
- Privacy: the App Store privacy label says purchases, location, contact info, identifiers and sensitive info may be linked to you, and that usage data may be used to track you. The terms also allow Cupid Media to register you on its linked sites, which you can opt out of.
How to tell a real profile from a scammer
Because FilipinoCupid has no in-app video, you have to do the checking yourself. The FTC's guide to romance scams lists the patterns that match the complaints above: talk of "true love" fast, reasons they can never meet, and requests for money for medical bills, travel, visas or crypto, paid by wire, gift cards, money apps or cryptocurrency. My checklist:
- Look for the verified badge and a profile with several everyday photos, not only studio shots.
- Run a reverse image search on the photos. A face that shows up under other names is a fake.
- Ask for a live video call on a video app before you get attached. Someone real will agree within a week or two. Someone who always has a broken camera is not real.
- Never send money, gift cards, phone credit or crypto, whatever the story. FilipinoCupid's terms and Community Guidelines forbid members from asking for it, so a request is a reason to report.
- Report it with Report Abuse, then at ReportFraud.ftc.gov if you lost money.
- When you travel to meet, meet in public, tell someone your plans, and keep your own transport and return ticket.
Pros and cons
Pros
- A big, long-running site built only for meeting Filipino singles, run by an established company
- Detailed profiles and strong search filters
- Built-in message translation on Platinum and Diamond
- Optional government ID verification with a visible badge
- Clear help center articles on billing, cancellation and deletion
Cons
- Free members cannot message each other, and can start only 3 new conversations a day
- Pricey: $39.99 to $45.99 for one month on the App Store
- Many complaints about fake profiles, money requests and sudden suspensions
- No audio or video chat inside the app
- Strict refund policy, and web prices hidden until you log in
How to cancel FilipinoCupid and delete your account
Cancel where you paid, then switch off your profile. Deleting your profile does not stop an App Store or Google Play subscription, and the help center recommends changing auto-renewal at least 48 hours before your plan ends.

- Paid on the website: log in, click the gear icon, choose Billing, click the slider next to "Your membership auto-renewal is ON", then Confirm (cancellation guide).
- Paid in the iPhone app: Settings, your name, Subscriptions, FilipinoCupid, Cancel Subscription.
- Paid in the Android app: Play Store, your profile picture, Payments and subscriptions, Subscriptions, FilipinoCupid, Cancel.
- Delete or deactivate: open your profile menu and choose Switch Off Profile. Deactivate hides you until you click "Reactivate Me". Delete removes the profile permanently after 30 days, and you can still reactivate within those 30 days (switch-off guide).
Refunds: when you can get your money back
The refund policy promises a full refund only if your account had technical problems, the site was down, or you ask before you have contacted or been contacted by any member. There are no partial refunds for unused time, and other refunds are discretionary. If you live in Arizona, California, Connecticut, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, New York, North Carolina, Ohio or Wisconsin, the terms give you 3 business days to cancel for a refund, by signed notice sent by registered or certified mail to Cupid Media in Australia. A charge you do not recognize may show as "FilipinoCupid.com Southport AU". Purchases made through Apple or Google go through their own refund processes.
FilipinoCupid alternatives
Google's AI summary of a Reddit discussion about FilipinoCupid names PinayPal and Bumpy as options with built-in face verification; I have not reviewed either. For broader international or serious dating, these have full reviews:
- For international chat with a big pool: Dating.com or Badoo.
- For a serious relationship in the US: eHarmony.
- For the same Cupid Media setup for queer women: PinkCupid.

How I rate it
I give FilipinoCupid 3 out of 5. That rating is based on public pricing, features, safety tools, app store reputation and value, not on hands-on use. Value for money: 2.5 (one month costs $39.99 to $45.99, and the free tier barely lets you talk). Safety and verification: 3 (optional ID badge, a fraud team and clear report tools, but no routine checks, no in-app video and many scam complaints). Evidence of an active user base: 4 (5M+ Google Play downloads, over 170K ratings across both stores, an update in October 2026). Features for its audience: 3.5 (translation, detailed filters and matching suit cross-border dating). Transparency: 2.5 (auto-renewal, cancellation and deletion are well documented, but web prices sit behind a login, the App Store list is confusing and refunds are narrow).
Frequently asked questions
Is FilipinoCupid legit or a scam?
FilipinoCupid is legit: it is run by Cupid Media PTY LTD, an Australian company, and has 5M+ downloads on Google Play. Scammers do use it, though, and app store and Trustpilot reviews often mention fake profiles and requests for money. Treat any money request as a scam and report it.
Is FilipinoCupid free?
You can join, browse, search and send likes for free. Free members cannot read or reply to messages from other free members, and can start only 3 new conversations a day. Messaging everyone needs Gold, Platinum or Diamond.
How much does FilipinoCupid cost per month?
On the US App Store, Gold costs $39.99 and Platinum $45.99 for one month, or $77.99 and $89.99 for three months (October 2026). Platinum for 12 months is $219.99, about $18.33 a month. Diamond is not priced publicly.
Are FilipinoCupid profiles verified?
Only some. ID verification with a government photo ID is optional, and verified members show a badge on their profile. The terms say Cupid Media does not routinely run background checks, so check photos and ask for a video call yourself.
How do I cancel FilipinoCupid?
If you paid on the website, go to Settings, Billing and switch off auto-renewal at least 48 hours before renewal. If you paid in the app, cancel in your iPhone Settings under Subscriptions or in the Google Play Store. Deleting your profile does not cancel an app store subscription.
