Vybes Review 2026: Legit or Waste of Money?

The Vybes dating app is legit: it is a real, application-only dating app run by Vybes App Inc., with ID-verified members and a short video call (the “Vybe Check”) before you meet. It is free to download and apply, but full membership costs $29 a month on Google Play, and the public record shows a small user base with complaints about crashes and distant profiles. It is worth a try for video-first daters in big US cities, and a waste of money anywhere else.

My verdict: A genuine, safety-minded idea: ID checks, manual approval, a video call before the date and a clear reporting process. The catch is size. Google Play shows 5K+ downloads against a claimed 200,000+ members, and recent reviews mention profiles hundreds of miles away. Apply free, see who is near you, and only pay for the $10 one-week trial before anything longer.

What Vybes is, and who runs it

Vybes calls itself a “verified dating community” where friends are part of the process. Its App Store listing sums it up as “Your friends know a catch”: friends post short videos pitching singles they vouch for, you can share profiles with friends and ask their opinion, and when you match you can jump on a video call before investing an evening in a date. The Vybes website says it is “application-only” and that every applicant is “reviewed and identity-verified before they can join”.

The company is Vybes App, Inc., a Delaware corporation according to its terms and privacy policy, with a New York address on its Google Play developer page. A January 2026 press release names Brittnee Barnes as CEO, and a NetInfluencer feature says she took the role in late 2025.

The brand is best known for Vybes Villa, a reality series hosted by creator Zach Justice that premiered on YouTube on January 12, 2026, with a cast drawn from Vybes members competing for a $25,000 prize. Members can apply to appear in future seasons from the app.

One warning about the name: several unrelated products share it. Searches turn up “Vibe Dating App” on Google Play, a Middle East social app called VYBZ, a Canadian dating club also called VYBZ, and a “vybes” social game. This review covers Vybes: Dating with Friends by Vybes App Inc. only.

    Who Vybes is for

Vybes targets Gen Z and young millennial singles who want to meet in person soon and are tired of long text threads. It suits you if:

    • you like the idea of a short video call before a first date, to check chemistry and that the person is real;
    • you live in a big US city (the site’s sample profiles are in Miami and Los Angeles, and App Store reviewers mention New York) and enjoy going to events;
    • you are happy to involve your friends in who you date.

It is a poor fit if you live in a small town, want a huge pool to browse, or hate being on camera. Vybes is for adults only: its terms require you to be at least 18 and bar anyone convicted of a felony, a sex crime or a violent crime, or listed on a sex offender registry.

How matching and messaging work on the Vybes dating app

According to the App Store listing, the app has five main parts:

    • For You Page: a feed of short videos in which friends pitch singles they vouch for. Tapping a video opens the verified profile behind it. You can also browse standard profiles.
    • Vybes Friends: add friends, share profiles with them and get their opinion before you match.
    • AI Matchmaker and VybesAI: an AI that suggests people “worth your time” so you can skip swiping, plus a private assistant that the website says drafts openers, suggests ice-breakers and helps plan dates.
    • VybeChecks: an optional video call with a match before you meet. The press release describes them as 15-minute calls. The App Store says you can message “with or without a VybeCheck”.
    • Vybes Events: curated in-person meetups you can RSVP to in the app. The Google Play listing mentions mixers, private dinners and VIP tables for members.

The video call is the real difference from Hinge or Bumble. It is a decent filter against catfishing and wasted evenings, but it is only useful if there are enough people near you to match with in the first place.

Free vs paid: what Vybes really costs

Downloading and applying is free, and the website’s FAQ says you can “match, share a Vybe Check, and start meeting people without paying upfront”. Membership is paid, but the website and the App Store page do not show the price. The only official place that lists it is the Vybes Google Play listing:

    PlanPricePer month
    1-week trial$10n/a
    Monthly (rolling)$29$29
    3 months$80$26.67
    6 months$139$23.17
    12 months$269$22.42

Prices checked October 2026 on the Vybes Google Play listing. iPhone prices may differ: the US App Store page lists no in-app prices.

The listing says membership includes unlimited matches, Vybe Checks, messaging, the AI wingman, events access, priority access to new city launches and Vybes Villa casting. It does not spell out what a free member cannot do, so check the paywall in the app before you buy.

The cheapest sensible way in is the $10 one-week trial: enough to see whether there are real people near you. Locking in 12 months saves about $6.58 a month over the monthly plan, which is only worth it once you know the app works where you live. The terms say subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel before the renewal date, and that prices can change without notice.

    Safety and verification

Vybes does more on safety than most small apps:

    • ID verification and manual approval. The App Store listing says every member is ID-verified and manually reviewed before joining. The terms reserve the right to verify “identity, background, and other credentials” and to cut access if you fail verification.
    • Eligibility rules. The felony, sex crime and sex offender bar above is written into the terms. It is a self-declaration, and the terms do not say Vybes runs criminal background checks on everyone.
    • A video call before meeting. A VybeCheck lets you confirm the person matches their photos before you share your time or location.

Even with ID checks, the terms say in capital letters that Vybes does not guarantee your safety and is not responsible for how members behave. Meet in a public place, tell a friend where you are going, and never send money to someone you met on the app.

    How reporting works on Vybes

Vybes publishes a Reporting Action Plan, which none of the other pages on this app mention. Here is what it says happens when you report someone:

    1. You report from inside the app, choose the type of violation (harassment, hate speech, scams, nudity and so on), and can add screenshots and a statement.
    2. The report is graded low, moderate or high severity.
    3. A human moderator reviews the conversation history, your evidence and past reports on that person. The reported member is temporarily restricted while the review runs.
    4. Outcomes range from a warning for minor first offenses to a permanent ban, and escalation to law enforcement for threats of violence.
    5. A banned member can appeal, and a different moderator reviews the appeal within 72 hours.

That is a clear, credible process on paper. There is no public data on how fast reports are handled in practice.

Is there anyone on it? Ratings, fake profiles and complaints

This is where Vybes’ public numbers do not line up. The website says “200K+ verified members”. Google Play shows 5K+ downloads and a rating of 3.6 stars from 215 reviews, while the US App Store shows 4.5 stars from 311 ratings (both checked October 2026). Downloads on iPhone are not published, so the gap may be partly iOS, but 5K+ Android installs is small for a dating app, and the live stats counters on the Vybes homepage (members, Vybe Checks, connections) displayed 0 in October 2026.

The reviews split the same way. App Store reviews, mostly from 2025, praise the video-first idea and the events. The most recent Google Play reviews (May to September 2026) complain that the app crashes or freezes, that distance and preference settings are ignored (one New York user set 100 miles and saw profiles from California and Texas), and that no one nearby showed up. One App Store reviewer and one Google Play reviewer both say they could not find a way to delete their account.

On fake profiles, the ID checks and manual approval are real points in Vybes’ favor, and no review in the stores describes bots or scammers. The company’s own growth figures (an 8x rise in weekly downloads after Vybes Villa and a roughly 55/45 split in favor of women, as told to NetInfluencer) are self-reported and not audited.

How to cancel Vybes and delete your account

To cancel a subscription, cancel where you paid, at least a day before renewal:

    • iPhone: Settings, tap your name, Subscriptions, Vybes, Cancel Subscription. The terms say refunds for Apple purchases are handled by Apple, through Apple Support.
    • Android: Google Play app, tap your profile icon, Payments and subscriptions, Subscriptions, Vybes, Cancel.
    • Paid directly to Vybes: email info@vybes.co. The terms say all non-Apple refund requests go to that address.

California subscribers can cancel without penalty before midnight of the third business day after subscribing, according to the terms.

To delete your account, look in the app’s settings first. If you cannot find a delete option (as some reviewers report), email info@vybes.co and ask for your account and data to be deleted. The privacy policy says you can request deletion of your personal data, and the Google Play data safety section says the same. Deleting the app does not delete your account or stop a subscription.

    How I rate it

I rate Vybes 3 out of 5. The rating is based on public pricing, features, safety tools, app store reputation and value, not on hands-on use. Scores: value for money 2.5 ($29 a month for a small pool, with a fair $10 trial), safety and verification 4 (ID checks, manual approval, video calls, a published reporting plan), evidence of an active user base 2 (5K+ Play downloads, recent complaints about distant profiles), features for its audience 4 (friends, video calls, events), transparency 2.5 (prices only on Google Play, no clear delete path, but auto-renewal and refunds are spelled out in the terms).

    Frequently asked questions

Is the Vybes dating app legit?

Yes. Vybes is run by Vybes App, Inc., a Delaware corporation, and is live on the App Store and Google Play. Every member is ID-verified and manually approved, according to its App Store listing. The bigger question is whether enough people use it near you.

    Is Vybes free?

Downloading and applying is free, and Vybes says you can match and start a Vybe Check without paying upfront. Full membership is paid: Google Play lists a $10 one-week trial and $29 a month, with cheaper per-month rates on 3, 6 and 12-month plans (October 2026).

    Where can I download Vybes?

Vybes: Dating with Friends is on the Apple App Store for iPhone and on Google Play for Android, published by Vybes App Inc. Make sure you pick that developer: other apps called Vibe or VYBZ are unrelated.

Who founded Vybes and who runs it?

Vybes is operated by Vybes App, Inc. Brittnee Barnes is CEO, a role she took in late 2025 according to a NetInfluencer interview. The company is also behind the Vybes Villa reality series hosted by Zach Justice.

What is the best dating app if Vybes has no one near me?

For a large pool of people looking for relationships, Hinge and Bumble are the safest bets in most US cities. If you want a curated, application-based feel like Vybes, look at The League or Raya.

Is there a 100% free dating app?

Vybes is not one: its membership is paid after you apply. Most big apps, Vybes included, let you create a profile and match for free and charge for extras or full access.
