Hitch Review 2026: Legit or Waste of Money?
The Hitch dating app is not a dating site: it is an AI dating coach that reads your chats from Hinge, Bumble or Tinder and tells you what to reply. Hitch Dating (hitch.dating) is legit and its free tier is worth a try, but it is a tiny, unproven tool, so I would not prepay $59.99 for a year of Pro. If you want to meet people, you still need a real dating app.
What is the Hitch dating app?
Hitch Dating calls itself "the AI dating coach for singles on Hinge, Bumble, and Tinder". You do not swipe or match on it. Its FAQ says it "works alongside the dating apps you already use": you paste a conversation or upload a screenshot, and it returns a 0 to 10 "temperature" score, a short diagnosis and reply ideas. The same FAQ lists the apps it works with: Hinge, Bumble, Tinder, Match, OkCupid, Coffee Meets Bagel, Plenty of Fish, Grindr and Feeld, plus texts, WhatsApp and Instagram DMs.
The Android app on Google Play is published by CyberVision Media Inc., with an address in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. The privacy policy footer also reads "Hitch Dating by CyberVision Media Inc." So there is a real, named company behind it.
Which Hitch is which? Three live apps and one dead one
Search "Hitch" in an app store and you get several unrelated products. Hitch Dating's own FAQ warns that it has "no connection" to the Hitch apps on the App Store or to Hitchdate.ai. Here is how to tell them apart:
| App | Developer | What it does | Where | Paid plan |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hitch Dating, AI Dating Coach (hitch.dating) | CyberVision Media Inc. | Chat analysis, openers, red flags, profile and photo review, practice mode | Google Play, web app on iPhone and desktop | $59.99/year (shown as $5/month) |
| Hitch: Dating Profile Reviewer (hitchdate.ai) | Hitch Date Inc. | AI review of Hinge prompts and photos, optional human review, AI coach "Maya" | App Store, Google Play | $9.99/month or $49.99/year |
| Hitch: AI Dating Co-pilot | Magomed Tavkazakov | Reply and opener suggestions from chat screenshots | App Store (iPhone only) | $2.99 for 7-day premium access |
| Hitch (2014, closed) | Founder Anton Gu | Friends set you up through Facebook | Not in the US App Store any more | Was free |
Prices checked October 2026 on the Hitch Dating app page, the Hitch: Dating Profile Reviewer App Store listing and the Hitch: AI Dating Co-pilot App Store listing.
The old Hitch is the one many 2016 reviews describe. When it launched, VentureBeat reported in June 2014 that you logged in with Facebook, picked two friends to introduce, and each saw only the other's age and gender until someone chose to reveal more. A US App Store search in October 2026 turns up no such app. If a review talks about Facebook friends and "hitching" people, it is describing that dead app, not today's AI coaches.
The rest of this review covers Hitch Dating (hitch.dating), the one Google's own summary points to. Hitch.AI gets its own section below.
Who Hitch is for
- Might suit: someone already active on Hinge, Bumble or Tinder who gets matches but loses them in the chat, who hates writing openers, or who wants to rehearse asking someone out before doing it.
- Skip it if: you are not getting matches at all (fix the profile and app choice first), you are uneasy about uploading other people's messages to an AI, or you want a human coach.
Hitch is for adults: its privacy policy says the service is "intended for adults aged 18 and over". Oddly, the Google Play listing is rated Everyone, so the store rating is not what enforces the 18+ rule.
How Hitch works: the eight tools
The Google Play listing describes "eight coaching tools in one app" (the homepage counts nine by splitting out a Hinge reply generator):
- Conversation analyzer: paste a chat or upload a screenshot, get a temperature score, a plain-English diagnosis and two reply options with reasoning.
- Opening line generator: paste a bio or Hinge prompt, get three personalized openers.
- Red flag / green flag: paste a message, get a green, yellow or red read. The FAQ says it looks for ghosting risk, breadcrumbing and mismatched intent.
- Date Planner: three date ideas plus the message to ask, with map links to nearby spots.
- Bio Generator: a ready-to-paste bio in three styles plus prompt answers.
- Profile review: an audit of your photos, bio and prompts with suggested edits.
- Photo Picker: ranks up to six photos and names your lead shot.
- Practice mode (Pro only): rehearse a conversation with an AI match and get round-by-round feedback.
The FAQ adds that the person you are talking to is never told you used Hitch: you copy the reply into your dating app yourself.
How to get it on Android and iPhone
On Android, install it from Google Play. On iPhone there is no App Store app: Hitch Dating's FAQ says to open hitch.dating/app/ in Safari, tap Share, then "Add to Home Screen". On desktop, Chrome or Edge can install it the same way. If you see a "Hitch" in the iPhone App Store, it is one of the other companies in the table above.
Hitch free vs Pro: what it really costs
| Feature | Free ($0) | Pro ($59.99/year) |
|---|---|---|
| Conversation analyses | 5 per day | Unlimited |
| Openers | 3 per day | Unlimited |
| Red flag checks | 5 per day | Unlimited |
| Date plan and bio | 1 of each per day | Unlimited |
| Profile review | 1 per day | Unlimited |
| Photo Picker | 1 free try | Full breakdown and fixes |
| Practice mode | No | Yes |
| Personality-matched replies | No | Yes |
Prices checked October 2026 on the Hitch Dating app page. No credit card is needed for the free plan.
Three things the pricing box does not spell out:
- The $5 a month is a yearly charge. Pro is "billed $59.99/year". The page says this saves 50%, but no monthly plan price is published anywhere on the public site.
- Five free analyses a day is a lot. Unless you are juggling many chats at once, the free plan already covers most days. Practice mode is the only thing free users cannot try at all.
- How you pay decides how you cancel. The privacy policy says web payments go through Stripe, while the delete page tells you to cancel through Google Play. See the cancel section below.
Is Hitch legit? What checks out and what does not
Hitch Dating is a real product from a named company, with a working app, a privacy policy and a deletion page. That is the legit part. The evidence that lots of people use it is thin, though, and some of its paperwork does not match:
- User numbers. The homepage claims "2,400+ active daters", "18k+ conversations coached" and a "4.8โ average rating". Its Google Play listing shows 100+ downloads and no public star rating yet (October 2026). Some iPhone users install it from the web, so downloads undercount, but nothing public backs up the 4.8.
- Testimonials. The three homepage quotes carry first names and Canadian cities only. There is no way to check them.
- Terms of use. The Hitch Dating terms of use are "Last Updated: October 27, 2016" and still describe a dating service where you "must sign in or register using your Facebook login" and check in to locations. They say nothing about AI coaching, subscriptions or auto-renewal.
- Where the company is. The privacy policy says "We are based in the United States", but its mailing address is in Ontario, the terms are governed by Ontario law, and the Play developer address is in Mississauga, Canada.
None of this makes Hitch a scam. It is free to start and does what its listing says. But it does mean you should treat it as a small, young product and not pay a year upfront on the strength of its own marketing.
Privacy: what happens to the chats you upload
This is the part most people skip. Hitch's privacy policy (effective May 23, 2026) says:
- Your screenshots and pasted text go to "OpenAI / Anthropic" to generate the coaching, "not used to train their public models". Hosting is on AWS and Cloudflare, payments on Stripe, analytics on Google Analytics.
- Conversations are kept "up to 30 days by default" and then deleted, though "active subscriptions may enable longer history".
- Hitch may use "aggregated, de-identified data" to improve its AI unless you opt in to share more.
- It says it never collects your contacts, photo library, camera, microphone or precise location, and does not sell data.
A screenshot of a chat contains the other person's name, photo and messages, and they never agreed to that. Crop out names and faces before you upload, and never upload anything intimate or anything that would identify them.
On safety, the red flag checker can be a useful second opinion, but it is not a background check or a scam detector. If a match asks for money, gift cards or crypto, stop, and report the profile in the dating app where you met.
Hitch.AI (hitchdate.ai): the other Hitch
If you landed on the iPhone App Store, you probably found Hitch.AI, "Hitch: Dating Profile Reviewer" by Hitch Date Inc., another Ontario company. It focuses on your profile rather than your chats: screenshot your Hinge prompts and photos, get a score and rewrites, ask its AI coach questions, and optionally pay for a full review with a human component. Your first review is free.
- On the App Store it has 4.6 stars from 14 ratings and is rated 18+ (October 2026). Subscriptions are $9.99 a month or $49.99 a year.
- On Google Play it shows 1K+ downloads, and its Data safety section says "Data isn't encrypted". That is the developer's own declaration, and it matters for an app that takes your photos.
Fourteen ratings is too few to judge it either way. If profile feedback is all you want, Hitch.AI's free first review is a fair test. If your problem is the conversation, not the profile, Hitch Dating fits better.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Generous free plan with no card needed
- Works with any dating app or messaging app you paste from
- Covers openers, replies, red flags, date ideas and profile edits in one place
- Clear privacy policy that names its AI providers and retention period
- Self-serve account deletion page
Cons
- Not a dating app: it cannot get you a single match on its own
- Pro is sold yearly only, with no published monthly price
- Terms of use from 2016 that describe a different product
- No iPhone App Store version, which confuses people with the other Hitch apps
- Very little public evidence of its user base or ratings
How to cancel Hitch Pro and delete your account
- Cancel the subscription first. Hitch's account deletion page says "Deleting your account does not automatically cancel your subscription". If you paid in the Android app, cancel in Google Play under Payments & subscriptions. If you paid on the web, Hitch does not publish a cancel path, so email support@hitch.dating and keep the reply.
- Delete the account. Use the settings panel in the app, or enter your email on the deletion page. Your account is deactivated immediately and the page says all data is removed within 30 days.
- Know the small print. The privacy policy says account data is "fully deleted within 60 days of account closure", which is longer than the 30 days on the delete page. You can also email privacy@hitch.dating for a copy or deletion of your data.
Hitch alternatives
Hitch only helps once you are on a dating app. If you want somewhere to actually meet people, start with the apps it was built around:
- Hinge: the app Hitch is most tuned for, with dedicated Hinge opener and reply tools.
- Bumble: Hitch has a separate Bumble conversation starter tool.
- Tinder: Hitch's "Tinder rizz" tool writes short openers for Tinder's format.

How I rate it
I give Hitch Dating 3 out of 5. The rating is based on public pricing, features, privacy and safety terms, app store reputation and value, not on hands-on use. Value for money: 3.5 (a free tier that covers most needs, but Pro is yearly only). Safety and privacy: 3 (named AI providers and 30-day retention, but no protection for the other person in your screenshots). Evidence of an active user base: 2 (100+ Play downloads against claims of 2,400+ users). Features for its audience: 4 (the broadest toolkit of the Hitch apps). Transparency: 2 (no monthly price, 2016 terms, conflicting company location and deletion timelines). The average rounds to 3.
Frequently asked questions
Is Hitch a dating site?

Is the Hitch dating app free?
Yes, Hitch Dating has a free plan with no card required: 5 conversation analyses, 3 openers, 5 red flag checks, one date plan, one bio and one profile review per day, plus one Photo Picker try. Pro costs $59.99 a year, shown as $5 a month, and adds unlimited use and Practice mode.
Is Hitch the same as Hinge?
No. Hinge is a dating app where you match and message people. Hitch is a separate AI coaching tool, made by an unrelated company, that helps you write messages for Hinge and other apps.
Is there a Hitch app for iPhone?
Hitch Dating has no App Store app: on iPhone you open hitch.dating/app/ in Safari and add it to your home screen. The Hitch apps you find in the App Store, such as Hitch: Dating Profile Reviewer and Hitch: AI Dating Co-pilot, come from different companies.
Are dating apps all 18+?
Mainstream dating apps and Hitch Dating require users to be 18 or older; Hitch's privacy policy says the service is intended for adults aged 18 and over. Store age ratings vary and are not the same as a platform's own age rules.
How do I cancel Hitch Pro?
Cancel the subscription before deleting your account, because Hitch says deleting does not cancel billing. Android purchases are cancelled in Google Play under Payments and subscriptions; for web payments, Hitch publishes no cancel path, so email support@hitch.dating.
