Finding the right dating site and matches has been quite the adventure for me. I have a lot of eclectic tastes and I’m open to trying (almost) anything at least once. Sci-fi is something I’ve loved, and even though the geek dating sites I tried out had a place to share this, they weren’t explicitly focused on this niche.
I love checking out smaller dating sites because I feel like there are some diamonds in the rough there! I kept digging through lists to find a new geek dating site since my friends were all tapped out on recommendations, and found a sci-fi dating site called Trek Passions!
Confession: one of my friends recently introduced me to Star Trek, and while I wasn't sure what to expect, I was hooked! I’m not the only sci-fi lover who hasn’t really watched it, right??
Trek Passions says it’s focused on everything sci-fi and isn’t limited to just Star Trek fans. When I went on the site to sign up, I immediately noticed a section near the bottom for sci-fi groups, videos, and a chat. It was also up front with the free (basic) and paid (premium) pricing instead of showing you after signing up, which was refreshing.
While trying out the site and working on my TrekPassions review, did I find my Tasha Yar or Mr. Spock? Only one way to find out.
Trek Passions is an international dating site for anyone and everyone who loves sci-fi and wants to incorporate it into their dating style! On the Trek Passions dating site, it refers to itself as being relationship focused, although no sexual content or activity is allowed, so keep that in mind.
Trek Passions was started twenty years ago in 2004 by Michael Carter, who is currently the President of Passions Network and the Owner of Niche Ad Network. Passions Network is home to over 260 niche dating sites such as Zombie Passions, Mullet Passions, and Hipster Passions, so if you don't like what you see here, check out their many other dating sites to find one that appeals to you.
Who is Trek Passions for?
✔️Singles who are passionate about sci-fi and are looking for a partner who is as well.
✔️Singles who are looking for serious relationships.
✔️Someone looking for a dating site with free text and audio chat.
✔️Those looking for a low cost dating site to test the waters.
Who is Trek Passions not for?
✖️Someone who isn’t extremely passionate about sci-fi (this is incredibly niche!)
✖️Singles looking for casual flings or NSFW photos from members.
✖️Someone looking for a large membership base (this is pretty small).
✖️Couples looking for other couples.
✖️Someone who isn’t looking for access to members from other sites in the Passions Network.
✖️Singles preferring to connect with verified profiles – there’s no badge or verification process here!
Once you register and create a profile, you can start searching for members! They have a few different search options, like browsing those that are nearby, or using search filters to dig a bit deeper. Once you find someone you’re interested in, you can send them a message, a virtual gift, add them to your friends list, chat with them anonymously, or tag (favorite) them for later!
Most of the features are included in the free membership – you can send emails to members, but you’re limited to 10 per day. Another thing I noticed is if you don’t have a photo added, you won’t have access to chat, so make sure you add at least one.
You can also see who has looked at your profile, and can block anyone if they make you feel uncomfortable.
✔️Yes!
Trek Passions is part of Passions Network, which owns a multitude of successful dating sites such as Trek Passions. With it being in business for the past 20 years and having a public facing CEO, there is a layer of legitimacy here. They also have a contact form for support and encourage members to contact them if they’re experiencing an issue.
As far as whether it's legitimate for sci-fi or geek dating, I did see a number of users who recently logged in and were active, despite the membership base for this site in particular being small! There were a few profiles that chose not to include photos, but I could easily avoid those.
It’s hard to tell who is actually a part of just Trek Passions however, because you do have access to the larger Passions Network when you sign up, so be aware of that.
When I went to update my password, I also noticed that there’s a big section detailing their data and privacy practices, which was great to see:
Trek Passions is an interesting dating site because it is geared to such a specific audience - and who doesn't love a good theme?! Here's what else I noticed about Trek Passions:
I ALWAYS have questions, and this time was no different! Here's what kept me up at night - j/k (sorta!):
How to delete Trek Passions account: Deleting the Trek Passions account is pretty easy - just go to “my account settings” and click “delete account.” There's also the option to hide your profile if you're on the fence about deleting your account.
What's a smooch? A smooch is a way to show you're interested in someone without writing a message. You can send other things too such as hugs, nibbles, and tickles.
What does it mean to join a group? Groups are a great way to show people more about who you are - without much effort! There's a bunch of different groups to choose from depending on your interests, and you can meet more people who like the same things!
Do I have to love Star Trek to join Trek Passions?: No, bb! Even though that’s the focus of the name, any sci-fi lover is welcome.
Is there a free Trek Passions account to use?: Yes! And the free account allows you to use a ton of the features, so it doesn’t feel limited at all.
Will my profile be seen across other Passion Networks dating sites?: No! You’ll be able to choose the sites you want to be included in.
Will my TrekPassions profile appear in search engine results?: By default, yes! And nobody wants that. If you go to your account settings, you’ll be able to click “search engine status” to remove that option. It’s weird though - it says I need to upgrade to do it, but it lets me leave the box checked to remove me, so I don’t actually know if it worked?
Is there a TrekPassions trial?: Yes! You can get a 7 day trial for $1.
📲No app. Sorry!
Sorry BBs, there isn't a Trek Passions app to use, but you can still access the Trek Passions dating site from your mobile device to take your dating on the go!
🐕It was fairly fast, 5-7 min!
The signup process is pretty simple, but a little misleading. I kept thinking I was about to be done, only to be fooled again! No worries though - the signup process is pretty simple and quick, all things considered.
Here's what's involved with registering for TrekPassions:
1. When I go to Trekpassions.com, I immediately notice the background and love how it matches with TrekPassions' whole theme. To get started, I click on the "join for free" button.
2. Once I click on "join for free", the detailed background disappears completely, and I double check to make sure I'm on the same website, cuz this feels like a completely diff planet to me.
Yep, still on Trek Passions - phew! I add my display name, email, password, and agree to their Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
3. In just one easy step, I'm already registered! All I need to do is verify my email address by clicking on the link that TrekPassions sends me.
4. Hmm, I had a feeling that it seemed too good to be true…not completely done with the registration process yet, but if it helps me get more views…
After I verify, it takes me back to continue signing up and adding my date of birth.
5. I tell Trek Passions a lil’ about me, which includes my:
6. Next up is adding my country, state, city, and zip code.
7. Time to add my pic! I love the guidelines they give to help us out. Note: they mention no explicit photos allowed, which echoes what I saw on the homepage. Make sure your photos are SFW.
8. Next, I fill out the "about me section" which includes filling out fields for my:
It says “Almost there!” but I see I’m only at step 2/5. 🤔
9. I create a headline and bio for myself, making sure not to get too sexual with my words. I also have the option to share my profile with the Passions Network to increase my chances of finding someone! They give hints or “icebreakers” here if you’re stuck on what to include.
10. I chose to share my info with the main Passions Network site, so I get to choose which sites I want to associate my account with. You don’t have to do this if you’d like to stick to just TrekPassions.
11. The last and final step is to choose which groups to join on Trek Passions! Categories include: alien, artificial intelligence, and graphic novels.
12. I know you're dying to see what the main feed looks like - at least I know I was - so here it is!
The main feed was my hub to all things TrekPassions. Here I was able to browse members, see the top groups, sci-fi videos, and more. I was also able to,
The main feed was pretty easy to navigate overall. It did feel a bit cluttered (or maybe just old?) which hurt my eyes a bit, but finding things wasn’t a problem.
The Trek Passions profiles are packed with info and things to learn about your potential match.
When looking at someone's profile I was able to:
I didn’t see anywhere to easily block a profile directly on them.
I also noticed a section for “actions” like hug and smooch, with the option for more. I clicked this and was taken here, where there’s an extensive list of actions, including ‘Karate Chop’ lol.
Using these require points, which you can get by logging in and doing various tasks, similar to how a lot of other dating sites incentivise activity.
As far as my own profile, there’s a feature called “My Match” which lets me detail out who I’m looking for extensively with everything from height, weight, age, music, movies, Myers-Briggs, profession and more. It’s super long so I won’t include a screenshot here, but basically whatever you click here is who they will try and match you with, so choose carefully!
🔎 There’s basic and advanced search features for extensive filtering.
I have a love/hate relationship with the search features for TrekPassions.com. There are a few different ways to search for members on TrekPassions.com, but it's a bit clunky. First, you can use the search drop down in the top nav to choose from,
If you click on “search” you’re taken to a super basic search area.
The first way is with the basic search where I'm able to narrow my choices by:
That’s it!
There is an advanced search feature where I can narrow down my choices even further. The advanced search feature let me filter by:
I could also search by location, browse members, see who's near me, and save my searches! Additionally, choosing multiple options here was possible, which is nice.
✅Yes!
It definitely is! I was able to access a whole bunch of features for free - just look at my list below! Additionally, if you want a free trial of the paid account, it’s only $1 for 7 days.
I was able to do a TON without having to pay for anything when I tried Trek Passions' free membership!
Here's what I could do for nothing:
Additionally, you can earn points for doing activities on TrekPassions.com, which you can then use as “currency” – like on actions, for example.
💰$4.95/month with a 7 day trial for $1.
TrekPassions has a Premium membership for $4.95/month, which is a great price compared to other paid subscription costs I've seen.
With a Premium membership, I was able to:
If you're looking for even more extras, then you can subscribe to Trek Passions' one-time subscription plan for $99.95 which gives me access to live chats.
Features are EVERYTHING when it comes to dating sites, and luckily TrekPassions has a few to help them stand out from the crowd!
Here's what I thought was special about TrekPassions.com:
IMHO, one of the hardest things for me is deciding whether or not to buy a membership for a dating site. One of my favorite things to do is to weigh the pros and cons to see if it's something worth investing in. Here's some of the pros and cons I found while working on my TrekPassions review:
Trek Passion is a quirky site that has plenty to love about it! Here's some highlights:
Trek Passions was a lot of fun to check out, but I did notice a few things that could be improved on. Some of them were:
For the sci-fi fanatics out there who don't feel like they fit on a typical dating site will absolutely love the whole concept of TrekPassions. There are a ton of ways to communicate with like-minded people, and I love how affordable it is! While most of the features are free, you can pay a little extra for even more fun as well as access to several other dating sites to try out.
I wasn’t wild about not being able to verify profiles because I personally feel a bit safer messaging those who have gone through the process, and my profile views/inbox were almost barren after two weeks, and didn’t improve after! I’d say TrekPassions is great to try out for free if you’re open to being the one to initiate messages, and the paid version is worth the upgrade once you have some activity.
Some other gamer and geek dating sites to check out!
