It goes without saying that pretty much everyone has heard of the OG of daters - Match.com, but does it live up to its rep? I've always been a little intimidated by Match.com dating tbh because I've always known it to be for people who are looking for something serious. I was never really on that level until recently… and what better way to try and find the one with one of the OGs of serious relationships?
All my girlfriends have tried Match.com and were surprised that I hadn’t sooooo… here we are!
I'm currently on the Match.com website, clicking on the cute lil’ heart (which is a nice break from the "sign up here" button I usually see), and ready to start my Match.com Review!
Founded in 1993 (!!), Match.com has been one of the original dating pros for more than 25 years. While Match.com is for everyone, not everyone might be for Match.com dating. On the Match.com dating site, Match mentions that the most popular age demographics on their site are between the ages of 30-49 (almost half of their users - 48.6% to be exact - fell into this age range).
Some other interesting facts on Match.com's daters include:
Did I mention that Match.com has over 25 years of experience playing matchmaker? That, coupled with success stories (from both my friends and by reading a few Match.com reviews), seems pretty legit to me.
However I did read a review of Match.com that mentions they were kicked off for life when a man they stopped talking to decided to get revenge and make up a story to the customer service dept. at Match. My advice is to use your best judgment when dealing with daters, and if you feel like the person you're talking to could have ill intentions, then contact Match.com right away.
My first impresh when using the Match.com app was that I could def see why they've been around since 1993. They focus on safety, the layout is clear and not too busy, PLUS… there are events to attend IRL! Here's what else you need to know about the Match.com app:
Who doesn't have an app nowadays? Yep, Match has one for both iOS and Android! Keep your dating on the go with your app, or you can steal a few glances at work (shhh!) by checking out the Match.com dating site.
Idk if the world is just moving towards super long sign-ups for dating sites, but here we go again! Grab coffee/wine (or any other bevvie of choice) and let’s get registered together.
My first question is about my gender.
I wanted to see what other options there were so I clicked on "more options" and was pleasantly surprised. There are a bunch of choices, including ones I've never seen before. Well done, Match.com!
The next question is about who I want to meet, and I love that they have the "everyone" option.
Need to enter my DOB! Standard, obvi.
Match.com's algo depends largely on the zip code you enter, so tell the truth!
Time to introduce myself to the Match.com universe! I entered my name here. (Nicknames seem acceptable, too).
Gotta give my inbox some lovin' as well!
I need to pick out a strong password and write it down. With all these dating apps, my passwords are getting difficult to remember!
After I create my password, I'm asked to fill out some qs about myself. I love talking about ME so this will be fun!
…or not. The first question isn't about me at all - it's about Match :sigh:
Maybe I'll get to brag about myself in the next q.
Yay! Now back to me! The obligatory how tall (or short) am I question.
I'd describe my body as a temple…oops that's not an OPTION! If I don't want to describe my body, then I have the chance to skip this.
Have I been married? No, but that's why I'm here! Match, find me my person (or at the very least a date)!
Now a question about whether or not I have kids. I don’t, but I wish there was an option to skip this question for safety reasons!
Next question is about whether or not I want them. Don't rush things on me, Match! It's hard enough trying to find me a partner! 😭If you couldn't tell by now, I'm a lil’ indecisive, so I like that there's a "maybe" answer when it comes to wanting kids.
Next I add some info ‘bout my smarts. Putting in "some college" as an option is a great idea, since I have several friends who didn't finish college.
Staying on the topic of education, it asks me to fill out where I went to college. There's a graduate option for those who want to add that in as well.
Now we're getting to the juice! The next few qs are habit-based.
Girllllll, have you seen my other posts? LOL! For those just tuning in, your fave blogger loves to have a good drink (or two).
Next, I'm asked about my ethnicity… and while I love that there are several options to pick from, it's not as inclusive as other dating apps I've come across. But, I do have the option to select "other" if there's nothing that I can relate to.
There are a good amount of choices when it comes to religion, including “spiritual but not religious" and "other.” While on the topic of religion, I'd like to preach about the importance of my beloved back button. I accidentally selected the wrong religion, and I couldn't go back and fix it right away. I also wanted to show the rest of the religions - oops.
Then I was asked where I grew up. If this question is too much, you can skip it.
Then it asked for my occupation. Work hard, play hard! Obvi.
I love picking out my interests on these dating apps, especially when they have cute emojis to go with them! You can choose up to 8 interests from topics such as:
On to what I'm looking for! Each subtopic has a wide range of choices, and I have the option of saying whether something is a dealbreaker or not.
Would I date someone with kids? I appreciate all of the different ways to answer this question.
Now I get to decide what my partner wants (for maybe the first and only time!)
Am I the only one who sweats a lil’ when they see that a question is going to show on my profile orrrr….
The next part is adding some prompts to your profile to make it more spicy.
Bonus points for safety measures! Match.com requires at least 3 profile pics for stronger matches. This helps keep the scammers at bay.
I need to enter my phone number to verify my account, which again I appreciate for safety reasons. After I verify my account, I'm done!
Then, I was dropped into the main feed where I saw my first hottie…OMG he's online now! I get to see his prompts and can “like” him.
When I click on the heart to like him, Match.com lets me know that I can send one intro a day. One thing I can say is that so far 3/3 guys I have been shown all live in NJ while I live in NYC.
Sooo while there's no searching for users (at least none that I could find) on the Match.com dating app, I could change my preferences to attract different people. Here's which preferences I could change using the Basic (read: Free) app:
Match.com is as free as I am! There is a lot to explore in both the free and paid membership and I'm excited to share this with you! So let's get to one of the most important parts of this Match.com review!
I was happily surprised to see that there's a lot I can do under the free tier of the Match.com app. This is especially great for those who are interested in the Match.com dating site or app, and want to give it a "test drive" before going all in on the paid subscription. Now enough about me, here's what's included for free:
There are a few things to know before committing to the paid tier with Match.com.
You will be asked to pay upfront, and if you pull out earlier than the length of your subscription, you will not be eligible for a refund. Another thing to keep in mind is that the paid subscriptions auto-renew unless you go to "Account Settings" then "Cancel/change membership" 24 hrs before your subscription ends. You also can't pause your subscription unlike some other dating apps.
Still onboard? Let's get into it!
The first paid tier is Bronze, which is Match.com's gateway tier to get you interested in the other 2 tiers. The extras here are very bare, but again, it's probably just to whet your appetite to entice you to the bigger players. The prices in this tier are also pretty doable.
Here's are the extras included with the Bronze subscription:
The Silver tier has the same perks as the Bronze package, with the addition of being able to see who likes you. 🕵️
And now it's time for the best and last package - Platinum. The name (and prices) say it all - this is the best of the best for ultra-serious daters. You can decide how you're billed but keep in mind you're paying for everything up front - so if you choose the 3 months package, you’ll be billed for $128.99 each time your subscription renews.
Here's what's included in the Platinum package (besides everything else from all of the previous tiers):
Match.com dating has a lot of unique perks that not every other dating site has. Here are some features that caught my eye:
As with other dating apps, there is plenty to love about this site and some to not love as much. What did I like and what didn't I? Well that, my friends, requires you to read my Match.com review a lil’ bit further.
There's a good amount to like about Match.com, including the amount of free features you can check out. I looove the idea of a free trial, and I like how Match provides interesting ways to connect to other users. Here's what else I liked about the Match.com app:
Match.com had a few things I was iffy on, but not enough to make me delete my Match.com account. Here's what threw up some red flags for me:
If you're looking for a serious relationship and have the money to spend, Match.com dating may be for you. Since it's been around for about 25 years, it's easy to do your own research and check out other Match.com reviews.
My advice? Sign up for the free membership and wait for a great promo or a Match.com free trial and check it out for yourself!
Even with just using the freebie version for a little while, I got a decent amount of messages (and no *ahem* gratuitous pics!) that kept me engaged and hopeful.
