After a few great dates from the last app I used, (Boo - I'm looking at you!) I was feeling myself and decided to test my luck with a diff dating site. I needed validation that it was me getting the dates and not the app itself I was using since it was so new, so I changed gears.
AI put my Boo on pause and created an account with one of the OGs, eHarmony, to prove to myself that I can get dates no matter which app I use! And guess what? Ya girl was successful with getting replies back that seemed legit!
Hopefully, my eHarmony review will help you figure out if you wanna use it too, and whether or not it lives up to its reputation.
If you haven't heard of eHarmony by now, where have you been?! SRSLY though - eHarmony has been one of the OGs of online dating since 2000, and has over 20 years of experience in helping others find close relationships. eHarmony finds you a match based on certain personality traits to create some depth to your matches rather than just connecting over looks.
eHarmony works by first asking users to take a lengthy questionnaire (but not as lengthy as some of my recent reviews… 🥲) about their skills, beliefs, values, emotional health, and so on, focusing on 32 "Dimensions of Compatibility".
The eHarmony dating site bases its algorithm on the Compatibility Quiz, so make sure you take the time to really fill this out.
Unlike other dating sites and apps, eHarmony is for those looking for a serious long-term relationship, so if that's not you, then you should probably stop reading this eHarmony review right now and find an app to swipe right on LOL! Your potential matches will never be random, as they’re curated by eHarmony based on how compatible they think you both are.
With over 20 years under its belt, eHarmony is more legitimate than most dating sites/apps. It is one of the most well-known dating sites out there and has more than 20 million users throughout the U.S., Australia, Canada, and the U.K. eHarmony also has a reputation for building long-lasting relationships instead of hookups, so you won't need to worry too much about randos looking for a quickie. Also, the compatibility quiz helps keep scammers at bay since it's pretty lengthy.
Is there an eHarmony free trial avail? Yes, but it's not marketed as that. Instead of a free trial, eHarmony offers a free membership that doesn't expire. Sometimes there is a promotional offer for a free trial, like during Black Friday, but for the most part, you can get a similar experience with your basic membership.
Can I retake the eHarmony compatibility quiz? Yes, you can… but eHarmony advises against it. Their reason is that they want you to take it honestly, and once you already know the questions, it's easier to rig it in your favor. But they understand that you may take this quiz after one too many drinks (GUILTY!) so if this is the case with you, then you can contact Customer Care by going to eHarmony's site.
How to delete eHarmony account? As with most dating apps, deleting your eHarmony account is much faster than creating one. If you're not happy with the app or if you found your match (congrats!!! Better invite me to the wedding!) then you can easily delete your account. If you're in the middle of a subscription, you need to contact the Customer Care team which can be found on the eHarmony dating site or app.
Otherwise, if you don't have a subscription (basic membership), then here's how you can delete your account:
Obvi! You can easily download the eHarmony dating app from the app store whether you're an Android or iOS user. If you get a message that the app isn't compatible with your device, then you may be using an older version of the app or need to swap your device for a different one.
Okay so my MO is usually wine before dating time, but trust me on this, skip the alchy and save it for the celebratory "I just finished my compatibility quiz!" stage. You’ll want to have the perfect balance of thinking without thinking too hard to answer these qs, and like I mentioned, it’s a PITA if you want to change your answers in the future.
Alright BBs you all know the drill by now - first I gotta sign up!
The first question to answer is which country I live in. And OMG… is that a back button during the signup process??! My prayers have been answered! 🙏Bummer alert tho: there is a limited list of countries to pick from. The only choices are the U.S., U.K., Canada, and Australia/New Zealand.
The list for gender is also pretty limited with just 3 options: woman, man, or nonbinary. When I click on my gender type, a lil’ blurb appears at the bottom saying I can add more info about my gender later, AND I can update my gender whenever I want.
When it comes to picking who I'm open to meeting, I have the same choices that I did in the last question, but I also have the option to pick all 3 - yay!
Well well well. This is something I haven't seen before – I had to read a consent message telling me that eHarmony wants to track my activity. I can also choose to opt out of being tracked by clicking on the "select settings" button.
I've got a good flow going so I'm not gonna stop now! There are 3 different ways to sign up with eHarmony - email, Apple, or Facebook. I'm noticing a pattern of threes with eHarmony. Good thing that’s one of my lucky numbers!
And just like that, I'm done registering! That was the fastest signup process I've ever had. Now it's time for eHarmony's biggest feature: their compatibility quiz. It mentions in the next few steps that I will need about 20 mins to complete the quiz and to be honest and spontaneous with my answers (no problem here!)
I love how these questions really make me think, and are unique at the same time. There are 5 different sections to the compatibility quiz with about 80 questions in total. To save time (without turning this into a snooze fest! ZzZ) I decided to spare you from reading all 80 questions - you can thank me later! Besides it's supposed to be a spontaneous quiz, and it can't be that if you know all the questions, amirite?
Just to give you an idea, some questions to expect are:
True to eHarmony's word, I was done in about 20 mins with the compatibility quiz. After the quiz, I was taken to a diff page where I had to enter my basic info such as:
I get to answer one or two questions to show on my profile. I chose "as a kid I had the firm conviction that…" and I also chose "my happy place…" I also got to write a little bit more about who I am and what I'm looking for.
Here I got to add my photo. eHarmony will review my pics which is a great safety measure.
Once I add my pic, I'm dropped into the main feed where I see my first hottie - kinda?
His face is blurred so I really can't tell. But I dig it since eHarmony is based more on personality than looks.
There are a few different ways for you to search for other members on the eHarmony dating site. But first, you must fill out a compatibility quiz and create your profile with your preferences and criteria. Once you do this part, you can then:
If you're not thrilled about the matches that eHarmony suggests based on your quiz, don't worry because you have other options! While there's no search box (eHarmony does this on purpose since you're supposed to find a match based on who they suggest), you can customize your eHarmony search filter to show you more people that pique your interest.
You have a few diff options for your search filter including:
Yep! It's completely free to sign up with eHarmony and check out their basic membership. If you'd like to explore more, you can upgrade your membership to eHarmony’s premium version which requires a payment.
Just like other dating apps out there, eHarmony offers a free basic membership as well as a premium option. If your wallet is pretty empty like mine is, then you'll def appreciate being able to connect with others for no fee at all. But what if you're interested in more than just basic? Committing can be difficult (truth!) but it doesn't have to be if you know what you want, so let's explore deeper so you know what you're getting into.
eHarmony's free package provides a taste of what you’d get with their premium membership, with the goal that you will eventually upgrade your basic membership. Here's what you can do for free:
So you like what you see and are ready to plunk some money down for the full package? Before going all in, here's what your hard-earned cash gets you:
I was offered a special discount since I'm new to the eHarmony dating site, but here are the reg prices:
I also have the option to choose a 6, 12, or 24-month plan, and the cost per month decreases if I choose a longer plan. You can pay either by credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express), by debit (Visa or Mastercard), or PayPal.
There are a lot of unique features to eHarmony that I was super excited to try out! The main feature that sets eHarmony apart is of course their compatibility quiz, but there's a lot more to check out besides that. Here are some more fun things that set eHarmony apart from the other dating apps:
Relationships have their good and bad days right, so why wouldn't dating sites? Since transparency is important with any commitment, I'm telling it like it is so you're getting the best and (not so) worst of both worlds.
There was so much for me to like about the eHarmony dating app so I'll just shoot it straight, no chaser:
You can't please everyone, and while eHarmony does a great job of that, I'm here to play devil's advocate. So, what's not so nice about eHarmony?
Do I seem like someone who wants to waste her time? eHarmony is def worth the time and effort you put into registering and answering the qs in the compatibility quiz and felt safe/trustworthy to use. I got a few hits from people I could see myself dating, and while the images are blurred for free users, I found it to be strangely alluring. All in all, this is a harmonious relationship waiting to happen.
