I don't know about you, but sometimes I get swiper's fatigue from scrolling through so many photos of people. It's tough to get a read on people just by how they look, and it can get disappointing to keep gettingâŠwell, disappointed. Enter Boo, a dating app where you meet new people based on personality. Sign me up!
First off, this dating app is ADORABLE. From the branding right down to the naming conventions (âsoulsâ âcrystalsâ etc.) None of my girlfriends heard of this app yet, so not only are you getting to come along for the ride, but theyâre going to as well, lol.
Boo is a dating and friendship-finding app that makes matches based on personality, and a very new kid on the block. With this dating app, you can take a short or slightly longer, more accurate personality test so that Boo can find your best connection. Boo's ultimate goal is to help you find out exactly who you are while also learning more about others to establish a meaningful, long-lasting relationship.
Over 1 million users are on the Boo dating app, which sounds pretty legit to me! In the App Store, it has a 4.3 rating out of 25,000 Boo dating app reviews. That's extremely impressive, especially since the Boo app has plans to continue marketing and growing their business for a better user experience.
Before diving deep into my Boo dating app review, just know that you're in for one heck of a ride into boo.world. This app is fun, interesting, and so entertaining that I just can't wait to share everything about it! Now, let's get to the juice:
How to use coins: You can collect coins just by using the app, such as setting your location. You can use coins to send direct messages as a free user, send rewards to posts & comments, and unlock power-ups.
How many matches do I get each day? You get about 30 free souls (matches) a day to connect with. If you're thirsty for more, you can always message other users in the comments section and send unlimited messages to souls you matched with (as long as you have verified your profile!)
What are crystals? If you engage respectfully within boo.world, then your profile will level up a crystal. All you need to do is send a comment or post something and youâll receive coins for each time you level up your crystal
Can you make your profile 100% private? While I didn't see this as an option, you can make your profile private for a while by going to account settings and toggling the "Pause account" feature. This will hide your profile from the public, but will also pause your activity on the website.
How to delete Boo dating app: Deleting the Boo app is like deleting any other app: On the home screen of your digital device/phone, click on the Boo dating app and hold until you see the icon shake. Once it starts shaking, you will see an X appear on top of the icon. Click on the X to delete the app!
Does deleting Boo app cancel the subscription? No, deleting the Boo app will not automatically cancel your subscription, but the good news is I can tell you how to cancel your subscription âcause Iâm awesome like that. Hereâs how to do it:
Go to settings
Click on account
Tap on delete account :(
Successfully deleted!
You know it, baby! You can download the app on iOS from the Apple App Store or on the Google Play Store if you have an Android. There is also a desktop version if you're into that sorta thing.
Using the Boo app doesn't get much easier than this! You can use it to find your next BFF or love interest, but first you need to download the app! Once you do that part (the registration is MUCH faster than other apps I've tried - trust me on this!) Here's the breakdown after you download the app:
Choose a sign in method â email address, or Google account. Apple is also an option for iOS.
Youâll be asked to take a personality test (you have the option to take a shorter test or skip this altogether, but then why are you even on here?!)
Tell Boo about yourself and the things you like (this process was more fun to me than with the other apps).
Add your interests, languages you know, location, etc.
Start exploring!
While you're off on your adventure, make sure to check out the 2 tabs: profile and communities. You can view and edit your profile on the first tab, and the second tab will take you to communities. Communities are set up in a Reddit-like format, where other users can ask questions to be answered, liked, or even bookmarked to view later.
The third tab is the Home tab which shows you member profiles that may interest you based on your personality. You can view their profile, look at their posts, and make comments.
The fourth tab is the Messages tab which lets you see all your convos and messages, and if you click on "requests", you can see everyone who sent you a request.
First off, can we just appreciate how cute the Boo dating app is one more time?! I love a good theme, and Boo def brings it. They refer to other people as souls, which is kinda creepy-cute (is that a thing?) and works for their overall concept.
Now excuse me while I pour my obligatory glass of wine. I have a history of finding dating apps with the longest prep time (sorta like my dating history IRL!). I'm crossing my fingers that Boo is not like the others out there and turns out to be the dating app of my dreams!
Signing up with Boo is easy - I just choose how I want to sign up either via Google, Apple, or email, confirm my email or account, and I'm on my way to meeting some new souls (umm I mean matches)!
After signing in, I'm asked for my name. Easy enough so far!
Next, I'm asked for my gender in the cutest way possible. Love that they include non-binary as an option for more inclusivity.
Time to enter my bday - yes I'm a crazy Gemini, don't judge! I really like how they show your gender, age, and horoscope sign at the bottom to ensure you don't make any mistakes. Choose carefully, because you can't change your date of birth later on, which is a great safety precaution.
Boo cuts straight to the chase by asking who I want to meet. I'm digging how the Boo app is upfront and lets me choose both friends and dating. This is the first time I'm seeing the option to choose both. Of course, I've seen some dating apps where you can meet friends, but usually it's friends OR dating like how Bumble is set up â not both. Cheers to that!
Oooh BTW, you can choose more than one gender!
Next, I'm shown something that I've never seen before on other dating apps. It's a video explanation of Boo explaining the goal of their site, which is to help EVERYONE find a date, not just the hotties. I wasn't expecting a video, but I was able to catch a screenshot to show you.
I know what you're going to say - this isn't a signup step. But just look at the illustrations here! What my screenshot can't show you is that the drawing is actually a moving graphic. The next few "steps" are animated graphics explaining more about Boo's goals so I'm going to skip showing you the rest of them since they don't have to do with the signup process.
I know I said I was gonna skip the illustrations, but this one is important. You can earn coins on the Boo app just by using it! For example, I can earn 50 coins just by enabling my location. Like most apps, I was able to be specific about my location or just show my general area.
Then I was asked whether or not I wanted to turn on notifications, which was quickly followed by this personality test.
This is the fastest that I've gotten to a personality quiz so I'm super impressed with this signup process so far! I also have the option to opt out of the quiz if I know my type, or take a shorter quiz, but I'm going full throttle for the whole experience.
Okay Boo, you have my interest! Unlike most personality tests, Boo asks questions that I haven't seen before.
Some other statements to agree/disagree with include:
You talk to a lot of diff people at parties
You'd be bored if you spent the weekend by yourself
You believe being straightforward is more important than protecting someone's feelings
You lose interest in a convo once it gets philosophical
You're able to control your cravings (*looks over at my wine glass*...)
After I fill out a few more of these, I'm shown my personality type.
I gotta be honest, somehow Boo is spot on about my personality type which makes me excited to see who my best matches are. Bonus points for them providing resources on the site under âPersonality Resourcesâ on the left sidebar to learn more about whatever personality youâre given
Boo also gets my award as the app with the fastest signup process. Not only was registration fast and easy, but it kept my interest with all of the graphics and not-so-normal questions. Great job, Boo!
Now for the exciting part - which other souls am I compatible with?? On this screen, youâll also see which personalities you have potential with, and which ones will be the most challenging for you.
Boo asks me to list at least 5 interests in my profile. The app will then link me up with other souls who enjoy the same topics as me. If I don't see anything that piques my interest then I can use the search bar to help me out.
Hereâs where I fill out how much I work out, drink, smoke, if I want kids, etc. I'm given the option to skip this step, but at this point, I'm a pro when it comes to lengthy processes so this is nothing.
Boo is asking for my job title but y'all ready know I'm a boss!
Now I get to fill out the school I went to because education is sexy!
Loving how the Boo app helps you create your own private space by limiting who you want to see or be seen by. Kudos for extra safety points!
Another part that I love is adding prompts. With Boo, you can get up to 128% more matches just by selecting 3 prompts to add to your profile!
In keeping with the whole "alternate universe" theme, Boo has you select the language from your "dimension".
By the way, the list is extensive, which is great to see! It also lets you view how many users speak the same language.
Now it's time to add some pics or vids of me! I love that Boo offers photo tips and also appreciate how specific they are when they say that profiles with 6+ photos receive up to 248% more matches.
The Boo app encourages honesty by giving you 200 coins to verify your pics, and letting you know that youâll get 198% more matches by doing so. I can def get behind that!
Add an âabout meâ description to get up to 162% more matches. If you're too impatient then you can always skip this now and fill it out later.
Wow! I can't remember the last time I finished setting up my dating app this fast. And if I was in a hurry, I could def speed the process up which I appreciate more than anything else.
I love how the main feed shows me my first potential boo (gets straight to the point!).
You search by interest on the Boo dating app, and you also have the option to search through posts, communities, and other souls.
I searched by dating under "communities" and found some fun questions such as: "Could you date someone for 6 months without sexual interaction?" or "What's one positive thing you like about yourself?â
I appreciate how the search tool acts more like a giant icebreaker.
Yasss girl! Not only is Boo's dating app free to use, but there are a ton of diff ways to try it out without paying a dime! If you want, you can subscribe to Boo's membership called âBoo Infinityâ or you can purchase âpower upsâ. With power ups, you can bring back those you passed on (Get it? Did you get the pun?!) and also increase your profile visibility.
I was able to do a lot with my free subscription to the Boo app. If you're curious like me though, you may wanna know if the grass is greener on the paid subscription side. My Boo app dating review is here to help you make your decision by listing the benefits of each.
Out of all the dating apps I've tried, Boo is the one app that lets you do the most for free.
Here's what comes included for free in the Boo dating app:
You can send messages for free (as long as you verify your profile)
Participate in the Universe where you can answer other users' posts
Like/pass on users
Use the search feature to filter by age, personality type, distance, and whether you're looking for a date or a friend
See who likes you
Create your own post/video to the Universe (Boo's name for their community)
View others' posts and videos to the Universe
Customize your feed - you can design your own algorithm for full control!
Boo's paid tier is also referred to as Boo Infinity. You have a few different options when it comes to Boo's payment tier. Here are your choices when it comes to a paid subscription:
1 month for $10
3 months for $20
6 months for $35
12 months for $65
$200 for a lifetime of unlimited use (no subscription)
With the paid tier you get additional unique features such as:
Unlimited recommendations
DM to your heart's content
Time travel - talk to a soul that you passed on
No annoying ads! This is a biggie for me.
You can enable read receipts to see when someone has read your message
There are a lot of unique features that make the Boo app different from all those other dating apps. These different characteristics made Boo fun and interesting for me to use! Ready to see what these features are? Let's get to it:
Profile verification: There's the option to verify your profile which gives you access to more free features such as sending messages. It also creates a safer environment and you can filter your search to show verified users. I wanted to test this part out, so I uploaded a fake pic to verify and the good news is, I failed! The verification process was a lilâ difficult for me to do at first - Boo verifies different parts of your face (like your nose) and compares it to the pic you upload. I had a hard time matching the dots on my face at first like they wanted, but after the 5th try, I finally got the hang of it.
Create an avatar: This is a cool feature that I've only seen on the Kippo app so far. You get to create your own avatar using a bunch of different hairstyles, face features, outfits, and more. Your avatar can also have their own home which you can fill with fun decorations and items. Once you're done creating your avatar and its (your?) home, your avatar can visit your friends, and they can come to your avatar's house as well. (the Sims fanatic inside me is overjoyed!)
Learn new languages: A feature I've never seen before until now is that you can learn and practice different languages on the Boo app. Boo will also provide an instant translation if you want to connect to someone from a different country. I really think this is a brilliant idea!
Compatibility quizzes and guides: Boo is kinda half matchmaker, half relationship counselor. Since Boo's focus is to match you up based on personality, they provide you with plenty of tools to understand yourself and other users better. I took the compatibility quiz and learned a lot about myself - don't skip this part!
Communities: There are a bunch of different threads (think: Reddit style) called communities, where you can post and talk with other similar-minded people on a variety of topics. If you find someone's posts interesting, you can follow them and see everything else they have posted. You can also filter the results by topics to see if there's anything that gets you going.
If you're asking yourself, "Is Boo a good dating app?" then this part of my Boo dating app review should help you decide. I could go on and onnnn about how much I love this app, but I'd be doing a disservice if I didn't share this app's naughty side, so here comes some teaâŠ.
I think a better question is what didn't I like about the Boo app, but we'll get to that part in a few.
You're prolly sick of me praising this app by now, but here we go one more time for the peeps in the back.
User-friendly: So easy to use (and fun)! Cute layout, great graphics, and you don't need a whole tutorial on how to use it
Personality quiz: You can take the full version or a shortened version. Either way, make sure you take this quiz because it's so interesting! You learn which personality type you are as well as those that you mesh well with
Unique features: Out of all the dating apps I've tried, Boo has the most unique features by far. You can create an avatar, join a discussion in one of the communities, learn a new language, and so much more
Ability to explore: Before even signing up, you can explore a lot of ungated content from Boo and search around on the site.
Resources, galore!: They provide a ton of resources around personality traits (like detailed personality profiles to read) so you can better understand yourself and your future boo⊠wait, I mean âsoul.â
Not much tbh, but I'll let you decide for yourself. Here's where Boo fell a tiny bit short:
Must be 18 to use: Some Boo dating app reviews I read mention having to be 18 to use the app as a con, but I personally don't think this is one. Still, I'm adding it just in case there are some readers who agree with this.
Price: Other Boo dating app reviews mention that this app is expensive. There are several payment tiers to choose from, including a one-time fee of $200 to use the site until you delete it, so use your own judgment here.
Limited availability: Since Boo's app is relatively new still, (it was created in 2020) you may not see a ton of active users in your area, but the app is aware and working on this issue.
Visibility: As you can see on the homepage, profiles/photos can be visible, however to view more about the profile or post, you have to sign in⊠which helps on the privacy side.
I am proud to say that I think I may have found the one - at least when it comes to dating apps! My boo. My soulmate. Get it? See what I did there??
Boo's dating app has been on my mind since I gave it a try, and honestly, it's gonna be hard to get me to think about another app in this way. The Boo dating app is fun, unique, has a ton of features to cure your boredom, has safety features in place, and is extremely reliable. I also received a number of âsoulâ matches to chat with, and their algo is spot on so far.
If that's not love then I don't know what is! Looking forward to the souls I continue to meet/date and fingers crossed one can become my boo (at least, for nowâŠ)
